May 4, 2019 - Golden Colorado

Golden, Colorado was our pick of the Day tour. Every aspect of making Coors is contained in several huge buildings. They recycle 99% of their waste. They even have an horticulture employee that oversee the growing of barley and oats in their own fields. They make their own cans, packaging, and labs that keep a check on the product for correct brewing and 50 people that taste test each batch of beer. Coors bough Blue Moon (my personal favorite) they also have the largest number of copper brewing kettles in the world. They produce 11 other...

Sep 7, 2016 - A new record

Golden, CO Many going west from the eastern side of Nebraska to Colorado would take a very boring straight shot through on the interstate, looking at nothing but mile after mile of corn and soy bean fields. Our route was much more circuitous. The Parks Department of Nebraska sponsors a contest each year called Nebraska Great Park Pursuit. Twenty sites are chosen across the state. If one submits rubbings done from a post at the park, wonderful prizes (t-shirts) can be won. We spent some time pursuing those rubbing as we zig-zagged across the...

Jun 7, 2016 - Woodland Park to Golden

Woodland Park to Golden Day 20—June 20 We have to pay a fee for early registration at our next RV Park which is a 105 mile drive so we delayed our start until 10:20 am. Our route was on US 24 down Waldo Canyon to Colorado Springs, then north on I-25 to I-470 (an outer loop of the Denver area). We saw evidence of the Waldo Canyon Fire that started June 23, 2012 during our second stay in Woodland Park. The fire caused extensive damage, with mandatory evacuation of some suburban areas west of Colorado Springs. We were fortunate that favorable...

Sep 21, 2015 - Back to Golden

Time to say good-bye to Estes Park and head back to Golden for the final leg of vacation. We got Timmy & Esther's stuff loaded up and left the RV Park around 10 o'clock. This was a distance of about 70 miles today but it felt like 700.....It was windy and the roads were curvy and narrow in places. The driver was working all the time. Then, the GPS got a little confused going through Boulder because of a recent different road pattern layout so we went around the block a couple of times to get ourselves straightened out again. But, we...

Aug 23, 2015 - Over the Mountains to Golden

We left Silt and headed east over the mountains for our 160-mile drive to Golden, just west of Denver. We took our time and had many passes to conquer today. We took a break at the top of Vail Pass and headed on down the mountain. Road construction slowed us down and, after a couple of more stops, we finally reached our exit for Golden. Then, we ran into the road closure about 1.5 miles from the campground. There was a bike race and we had to hang out in a parking lot for about 20 minutes until the road re-opened. It seemed like we weren't...

Jun 14, 2014 - Golden, Co

Stopped in Pueblo for the night on Friday and discovered our Surge Protector not functioning correctly. Will be contacting the company on Monday. Staying at Dakota Ridge RV Park in Golden, Co for the week. This is a nice RV "resort" where we will stay for a week, before putting our unit in storage until we leave. We found out that the majority of the RV parks in the area are booked solid with oil / gas temp workers. The state parks are booked for week-ends. Thus, we are going to stay in Ali's loft while we are here.

Jun 7, 2014 - Redlining the Fun Meter

Wednesday I dropped Nancy off at Sharon’s for a ‘girl’s day’. I returned to base and started a crockpot meal of tri tip strips, onions, taters, etc. We got together at Jack and Sharon’s for dinner and an early fresh baked birthday cake. Nancy prepared my favorite German chocolate upside down cake. Our stay in Golden is certainly more of a social whirl than the last time we were here. Thursday was my birthday. For the grand event we hopped the train with Sharon and again met Jack downtown for happy hour. This time we visited a lively street...

May 29, 2014 - Breckenridge Boogie

Wednesday Sharon and Cindy came over to ‘the Neighborhood’ in Golden to join us for a day trip to Cindy’s timeshare at the ski hill in Breckenridge. Cindy had a scenic route picked out for us to follow on the way there. She dangled the promise of a great breakfast at a quirky place near Evergreen on our way. It doesn’t take much to motivate us so off we went. The general plan was to take a short hike near Cindy’s lodge and then use the hot tub afterward. The Country Café proved to be a score. The unimaginably varied menu was a real...

May 27, 2014 - Biking Denver by Train

Wednesday we loaded our bikes on to the light rail and headed to Union Station downtown. Once there, we got our bearings and started up the Cherry Creek Trail from Confluence Park. The trail runs 11 miles to Cherry Creek State Park. Along the way we passed the Performing Arts Center. This is quite an impressive building. The other buildings beside the trail were modern looking, recently built structures as well. The trail only leaves the creek in one spot and that is where Cherry Creek runs through the old and ancient Denver Country Club...

May 27, 2014 - Golden Days Again

Our last leg into Golden was from a KOA south of Pueblo, CO. It was mostly up hill to our three week layover in Golden. One of the first things we noticed after crossing into Colorado from New Mexico was how green the hills and valleys are. We stayed at this RV park four years ago during our first travel season. Our travel companion, ‘the Bird’ expired due to the extreme temperature changes we had experienced getting here, we assume. He is buried on the rocky crest of the deep green covered hill behind ‘the Neighborhood’. A summary for the...

Oct 19, 2013 - Gold in Golden

A short drive of a little over 100 miles got us to Golden, on the west side of Denver. Even though traffic was heavy, all the drivers behaved reasonably and we zipped on in to Dakota Ridge, our home for the next week. This is a nice park but the sites are very close together and not entirely very level, but we manage. There's a sports bar within walking distance called Wrigley's, and as their name suggests, they are about all things Chicago. We headed out there for pizza, a wine for me and margarita for Joe. Tomorrow, we're going to Boulder.
