Sep 1, 2013 - Day 1 - Found a Wingman

Day 1: After a brief stint on the pavement I hit the dirt in Georgetown, Colorado. Up over Guanella Pass for my first trip to altitude. It was the usual rutted switchbacks and rocks but nothing the KTM couldn’t crush with little effort. It was cool and rained intermittently during the climb and descent so I was all zipped up. As I was nearing the bottom of the pass I noticed a rider on the side of the road who had stopped to shed some thermal layers and rain gloves after dropping a few thousand feet. I had to laugh. He was a big guy, on a...

Mar 24, 2013 - Spring Break 2013 - Loveland Ski

Spring Break 2013 - Loveland Ski Rented house in Georgetown, Colorado Steve, Michelle, Emily, Anna, Henry, & Grandma Rhett TJ, Megan, Jude, Ainsley, Jonah, & Grandma Seegar The lady we rented the house from made all our meals and they were delicious. Henry rated the donut bread pudding a 100 on a scale of 1-10. We skied 6 out of 6 days, except for Henry who chose a grandma day during a "white out." Good thing, because I am afraid we would have lost him. Emily took one hard face plant off a jump in the terrain park. I was actually playing...

Jul 23, 2011 - Como/Breckenridge/Georgetown Loop/Guanella Pass

Today was the first day for some real touring. We left early for our train ride on the "Georgetown Loop". Leaving plenty of time for us to arrive early for our pre-ordered Steam Train ride. Until I70 had a serious accident just around the corner from where we were that shut the interstate down in both directions. They had to send in the medivac chopper to the scene. So Tom took a short nap and I call our son while we sat in I70 and missed our scheduled train ride. But luckily we could catch the next train for a $4.00 fee for each ticket. To...

You me leaving the mountains start the beginning of the end of a great trip. I have come to truly enjoy the mountains with so many things to do and learn. Travel to Golden will give us a chance to visit with some very special people, Dan and Marlene Whitaker, as well...

Jun 24, 2007 - Whew! The Air is Thin Up Here!

Rocky Mountain High.....in Colorado! I am always amazed at how beautiful the Rockies are, no matter how many times we come out here! Frank and I are both feeling the effects of the altitude this evening. After we checked in to our motel, we thought we'd walk about a block down to a Subway shop to get a sandwich. Going down wasn't a problem, however, coming back up to the room has left us winded! After doing some research, we found out why we were feeling the altitude...the motel is at 8700 feet! We logged 555 miles today and threaded the...
