Jun 4, 2013 - Photos...finally photos!

Here are some of my photos from the trip so far. The most photos I have taken were of St. Jude's and Memphis...at least so far. Driving takes a lot out of us because we are traveling so many miles each day. Memphis was interesting. It seems like a lovely city--pretty, with well-planned greenery and architecture. Sometime I would like to go back to take in more of the city itself. As it was, the visit to St. Jude's was humbling. They do an amazing amount of research and follow up. We were fascinated to learn that once you have been a...

Jun 3, 2013 - At long last...Colorado!

What an amazing day! We started off by eating breakfast, of course, but then decided to drive through some of the tornado damage, since it was just south of our hotel. FIrst of all, there were no traffic lights because most of the power was out. Road crews were on duty, trying to remove debris from the roads. But there wasn't anywhere to put the debris. There were piles of wood, metal, trees, househoold goods, furniture, rooves, and anything else you an imagine--Then there were the remnants of shopping centers, businesses, hospitals and...

Oct 21, 2012 - Poudre Canyon Tour

It is almost the end of my short visit to the Fort Collins area and today we wanted to drive into Poudre Canyon. It was a great day for a drive and this road is just a short distance from our campground. In the pictures you will see 2 Mountain Climbers along the road. There was not a place to pull off so I had to stop on the road to take these pictures. Look close on the right side and you will see a picture of the Male Mountain Climber looking up. The next Picture is what he is looking at. A girl on her way up. In Colorado seems everyone...

Oct 19, 2012 - Fort Collins CO A Day of Rest

After the school we headed for Fort Collins CO. I wanted a quick look at the mountains and some back roads before we headed back east. When we arrived it was clean up time. After a week on the road and dry camping part of that you accumulate a lot of dirt. Laundry day, RV Cleaning day and just general stuff had to get done. This is the park we are staying and it is pretty nice. The best part of this it is the end of the season and the rates are considerably cheaper. Daily rate here is 30 dollars with the KOA member discount. Believe me that...

Sep 3, 2012 - The Canyons

Monday (Labor Day) we decided to take a short ride thru some nearby canyons and stay in town and rest up in the afternoon. We ate dinner out at "Serious Texas BBQ" You order and pick up at the counter. We got the sampler platter to share which included several "salsas" they make including pineapple cilantra (which is great). So our last day here we drove several canyons. One was Risk (??) canyon. This is a smaller quiet canyon with practically no traffic except the locals. We found lots of it burnt from the fires this spring. Most of the...

Sep 1, 2012 - Rocky Mountain National Park

We arrived in Fort Collins Thur Aug 30. We are staying at a KOA that is VERY manicured and resort like. All the sites are paved concrete pads with lush grass. The distance between sites is twice what most koa's have. It has it's own lake with a large gazebo and floating pier. They have swan shapped paddle boats and canoes to rent, a really nice putt putt golf, heated pool of course, shuffleboard court, basketball court, hugh jumping pillow, volleyball, an arcade room, a library, a gym, large very nice playground, a great hiking path that...

Jun 10, 2012 - Fort Collins, CO

Today we left beautiful Buena Vista, CO and headed towards Fort Collins, CO north of Denver. We continued north on 285 until we got to Littleton, then took 425 around Denver. Once around Denver, we jumped on I-25 north before making a pitstop at a Camping World store. We had lunch then finished the rest of the travel to the KOA Lakeview. Obviously there were so many cool views along the way and we hope you can begin to appreciate what we see via our photos. As we approached Fort Collins, we noticed smoke off to the west. When we got closer...

Oct 28, 2011 - Well, that was fun, now we go home

It's a long drive home and we are not looking forward to it, but we are looking forward to being home and that is driving is to go all day and night, poor dogs. This isn't what they signed up for. Driving past Salt Lake in the early afternoon we finally made it to Elko and decided to go no further for fear of trying to drive all night... The next day we are off again and the reward is dinner at Tina's mom's, the dogs explode in familiarity, barking for treats and walks, they know we are finally home, and later that night, we are.

Oct 6, 2011 - Two Forts

We have had a great week in Fort Collins, Colorado. We lived here from 1978 until 1983 when we moved to Des Moines, Iowa for a job. Hardly a day has gone by since that we haven't thought fondly of Ft. Collins. Our son, Jeff, wasn't quite two when we moved here and this is where our daughter, Michele, was born. At that point in our lives it was nice to have the four seasons with snow in the winter. Then we didn't mind shoveling snow and driving on snowy roads. My, how time has changed our thinking! When we lived here, Ft. Collins was a small...

Sep 5, 2011 - Sunbonnet Farms

This is a great little farm owned by Pam Parham , a retired school teacher. She has a little bit of everything: rescue donkeys, horses, geese, chickens, and a fabulous vegetable garden. We spent the afternoon in historic downtown Ft. Collins and then came back and shared a bottle of wine from the Table Mountain Winery with her and Dave (her renter/companion??) She said we could stay longer if we wanted to. She is participating in the Harvest Host program because she enjoys the company.

Sep 4, 2011 - My Phillips Relatives in Fort Collins

Drove up to Fort Collins to spend the afternoon with my Phillips Colorado relatives. Got there between 2 and 3 p.m. I took the Blueberry Dessert of yours, Aunt Elma, except half was cherry and the other blueberry. The cheese cake portion really raised higher than it does at lower elevations. We had bar-b-q (chicken & pork), baked potatoes, cole slaw, tomatoes from Bobbe & Patrick’s garden, a Mexican type beans & corn dish, and really great bread. We had a really nice visit, shared some pictures, updated my genealogy files for their family....
