Sep 7, 2010 - Labor Day 2010 trip

Lindy and I started from Colorado Springs, CO at 4:00 PM, traveled on I-25 to Monument and got McDs drive-through, got sunset shots near Fort Collins. Found a motel on College Ave for $59.99. Guys outside our door with SUV blaring music, singing along loudly. They said, "We'll turn this down soon."

Aug 14, 2010 - Colorado Springs to Denver to Fort Collins

Colorado Springs is a lovely city so before leaving we decided to visit the Manitou Springs Cliff Dwellings. The dwellings were built into the rock face by the Anasazi who were also known as the Ancient Ones or the Ancestral Puebloans. The alcoves provided cover from wind rain and snow for the people of this advanced culture that existed from 1100 A.D to 1300 A.D. Denver was our next destination which was not too far away.As we neared the city we could see it but could not get to it and had to ask for directions into the Downtown area.There...

Aug 4, 2010 - Finally, a Bit of Rain

This morning it was clear and sunny and consequently, it didn't take long before it started heating up. We turned on the AC early, around 9:30, before heading out the door to go grocery shopping again. -- The other day when we were at WalMart, I wasn't really happy with their meat selection, so today, we went to a nearby Albertson's Store. We didn't need a lot of things, but wanted to get some more milk and meat. We were pleasantly surprised with the butcher department and even happier to see a sale on steaks which we thought were buy one,...

Aug 2, 2010 - Breakfast of Champs

It has been many years since I had a beer for breakfast - many, many years. This morning, we went to the Anheuser-Busch Plant here in Ft. Collins for a free tour which started at 10:00 am. This particular plant added on a huge section in 2002 which cost about $200 Million which our tour guide said took approximately two months for AB to recoup. Needless to say, they make a lot of beer and consequently make a ton of money. We are all definitely in the wrong business. -- The Anheuser-Busch brewing business was started in the 1800's by Mr....

Jul 31, 2010 - Exploring Ft. Collins

We headed out the door this morning before the heat of the day started. We wanted to find WalMart and replenish groceries and we had seen a billboard advertising a nearby flea market that we wanted to explore. John asked at the front desk about the flea market, but no one had heard about it so I went on line and got the address of what was supposed to be "Colorado's largest indoor flea market". It's been a while since we have been to one and I was excited. It was beautiful outside this morning, but at nine o'clock, it was already 75...

Jul 30, 2010 - Back Into Colorado

After being in and about Wyoming for the past two months, today we moved back into Colorado where we will hopefully stay for the next month or so. We continued our journey across the plains and cattle country. There were beautiful thunderheads in the distance with a scattering of smaller clouds overhead. And it is hot. It was hot all last night and it is supposed to be hot all weekend with hopefully a little cool down on Monday. We all hate the heat. -- We stopped for a breakfast break at Cheyenne, Wyoming, where John noticed the gas price...

Jul 22, 2010 - Thursday July 22-Ft. Collins KOA

This morning was a full catered breakfast. Wow, there are some great cooks in this group! We did laundry and made reservations in the morning. After lunch, we measured our window's and drove to Lowe's to pick up some mini-blinds. We had decided to change from the day/night shades in the motor home to mini-blinds a while ago, but with the cabinets being installed in the near future, we are going to have to get to work on replacing the blinds in these areas prior to the installation of the cabinets. We grocery shopped, then headed back to the...

Jul 21, 2010 - Wednesday June 21- Ft. Collins-

Today was either a Budweiser or Belgium Brewery tour. We had opted for the Belgium Brewery, but decided instead to go to historic Old Town. Lots of shops, but it looks like a lot of other old town areas. We returned to the motor home for lunch and became wrapped up in trying to find an RV Park in Breckenridge, unsuccessfully. This evening is a pot luck dinner, so I started doing some cooking/baking for tonight. We met with one of the Alfa owner’s who builds in cabinets/desks etc in Alfa’s, and made an order for a new cabinet connected to...

Jul 20, 2010 - Tuesday July 20- Estes Park and Train Museum

Continental breakfast again this morning. We could have car pooled to Estes Park, but decided to drive ourselves so that we could return to the motor home whenever we wanted too, so we caravanned in a total of 7 cars. Our leader, Charlie, lives in Ft. Collins, so he took us on a short cut. It was okay until we hit the dirt road covered with horse manure. Oh well, it was only about 2 miles. We drove into Rocky Mountain National Park. We had climbed by this point from 5,000 ft to 8200 ft at the park entrance. We continued to climb, via...

Jul 19, 2010 - Monday July 19- Ft. Collins

Monday July 19- Ft. Collins- We started the day with a continental breakfast at the Pavilion directly across from us. We opted to take a scenic driving tour. We went north on CR 54, west on 287, then south on CR 14 into the Roosevelt National Forest and through Poudre Canyon on the Cache La Poudre Scenic By-way. It was a pretty drive, along the Poudre River. We only went as far as Rustic, and took a short cut back to the KOA. The short cut was less miles, but the road was narrow and twisted through the mountains, so it may have taken us...

Jul 18, 2010 - Sunday July 18- Norht To Ft. Collins

Ft. Collins is about an hour north of Denver on I-25, which was very crowded with traffic. We easily found the KOA Lakeview were we are staying for 5 nights. This is the Alfa See Ya’s Rally only for Alfa motor homes. We do not like KOA’s as they are expensive, the sites are close together, and they are known for nickel and diming you. This KOA is actually pretty nice, but expensive. We would not have chosen it, but it is where the Wagon Masters chose, so here we are. We had happy hour at 4 PM, then heavy hors d’oeuvres and met the other...

Jul 11, 2010 - Fort Collins, CO

We left our campground scenic view of I-70 and hit the super slab for real, bound for Fort Collins. We had planned a stop at Paul’s so he and Joe could confer on the specifications for the computer center Joe has envisioned for the coach. The traffic was very light so we stopped for lunch in Broomfield. We like to find different places to eat when we travel; after all, we can eat at Chili’s or Hooter’s anywhere, so we selected a little shopping center with enough space so we could park the rig and had lunch at a wonderful deli, The Smiling...
