Jul 29, 2014 - Dotsero

It was cold and rainy when we left Vaughn lake and drove on west on 8 to look at Trappers lake which is 10 miles down another dirt road. The clouds stayed low so we couldn't see a lot but would go back there again. There had been a fire years ago and combined with the beetle infestation, there are lots of dead trees. The lake is pretty but we headed out to Meeker and back to I70. We turned off at Dotsero to go up to the flat tops where we camped last year. Bad mistake with all the rain turning the road into mud. Back to camp by the Colorado...

Jul 20, 2013 - FS road 600

We definitely made the right decision to stay another day up here. The weather has been wonderful-70 during the day, 50 at night. We think this may be the most beautiful camping spot ever (until we hit the next one)! We rode our bikes back up 600 to the Deep Creek overlook. It's a 2300ft high carved canyon made by the Deep Creek which flows down from the lake we stopped at 2 days ago. Our ride was 6.8 miles-3.4 up and 3.4 down so we got in a good workout. Came back to the camper condo and Bill whipped up a turkey wrap sandwich. We're still...

Jul 19, 2013 - Forest Road 600

We packed up and started to head back to civilization this morning. Bill rode his bike for the first part of the trip down but when we came back to the area where we spent the first night, we knew it wasn't time to leave this area. He rode about 4 miles and we found another campsite with an amazing view so here we are for another day. We looked another 100 yds and found an even better site so we moved to it. Bill has become the master of leveling the camper-only took 30 minutes to get it absolutley perfect. We hiked 3 miles on an old trail...

Jul 18, 2013 - Deep Lake

We drove another 8 miles up to Deep Lake where I tried fishing for trout. The clouds started gathering again and then here comes the rain and hail. The temp at 1:30 dropped to 45 and the hail turned the ground white. Needless to say no trout were caught and we decided to go lower to camp. Stopped at another little lake to fish and no luck again. We found a nice pull off at @9000 ft and camped for the night.

Jul 17, 2013 - Deep Lake

We left our Avalanche campground and headed to Carbondale to get food. We were trying to figure where to go next on our adventure. We knew of a great little place in Glenwood Springs for a cheap Mexican lunch so we kept going to Jilbertitos for a carnita torta. One was big enough for us to split and it was just as delicious as we remembered. We had seen on the map a road going out of Dotsero that lead into the White River Natl Forest and the Flat Tops Wilderness Area. There was a local guy eating at the joint so Bill asked him about the...
