Sep 30, 2013 - Final Thoughts and Tips

When we woke up this morning, there was a pile of junk in our living room!!! WOW! Who did all this shopping??? The rest of the day will be spent recovering - I am currently applying heat to my feet and sore muscles. We feel like our mission was successful. Even though prices in many places were retail instead of yard sale prices, we did manage to hunt out some bargains. We find that people are learning to get online and they get onto Ebay and print out the page that says an item is for sale for $50 and they put $50 on it. These pages are...

Sep 30, 2013 - Denver/Glenwood Springs/Four Mile Park

Once again we travel from Denver to Glenwood Springs. This time, however the vistas are covered with Fall foliage; there's yellow and green everywhere. The views driving through Glenwood Canyon are early evening, with the sun lower in the west making the shadows different from our last trip to the Aspen Music Festival. We arrived at the Four Mile Creek B & B a little after 3:30PM and were greeted by Shirl, our most gracious hostess. Not quite ready for us, she recommended a drive to Four Mile Park for a view of the aspens in color. Some...

Sep 30, 2013 - Birthday Dinner

Into the Springs for dinner. Juicy Lucy's sounds a bit honky-tonk for a restaurant serving wonderful fare. The steaks and chops et al, match any fine house. We were seated at a table for two in the front window. To our surprise, one of the appetizers included Chincoteague oysters on the half shell. Impossible; says I. The waitress brought a sample, and sure enough, there they were; unbelievable. A bottle of Ravenwood Zinfandel complemented a meal of steak and lamb chops; perfect. We toasted the eventful day, settled into a fine evening....

Sep 15, 2013 - The Road to Denver

The day started well enough. We pulled out of the RV park and headed west on I-80. Very soon we split off onto I-76. It has to be one of the roughest paved roads in the country. We were jostled and jolted for several miles. Then we hit the Colorado line and it got worse. There were short stretches of smooth road where the construction was finished. And of course we had miles and miles of one lane driving alongside orange cones. Something we are all too familiar with being from Omaha. About 40 miles from Denver we hit the rains that have...

Sep 7, 2013 - Denver, Colorado

Denver, Colorado’s state capital, is nicknamed the Mile-High City because its official elevation is exactly one mile or 5,280 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest major cities in the United States. We expected Denver to be a nice city to visit, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that it was a very impressive city with its new, modern high rise buildings, renovated historic buildings, cultural centers, monuments, museums, and parks throughout its downtown area where we stayed. It also has a mile long area with restaurants...

Western U.S. 2013

Aug 30, 2013 - 2013 Kickoff

“There’s a fine line between ‘Nut Job’ and ‘Adventurer’……….. Whadda’ ya’ want on YOUR tombstone?” My brother Charlie said that to me as we sat astride our BMW GS’s staring down at a horrifically steep, rutted, recently burned out, and muddy descent into the famed (or infamous) Sublette Cutoff in central Wyoming. This was a harrowing set of nasty switchbacks and part of the original Oregon Trail. This “trail” had been used by early settlers to get to the western gold fields. It was a short cut of sorts named after William Sublette...

Aug 26, 2013 - sad day not

We were going to leave this morning but the weather guessers are calling for rain and flash floods in western Colorado. So we will have another day with Zack which is ok with us. We got here on Thurs and Zack had to work until 11:00pm so we didn't see him until Friday morning. It has worked out so well because he was off work Fri , Sat, Sunday and Monday. We had a wonderful four days because we hadn't seen him since last August. We stayed at the Dakota Ridge RV Park. It is a real nice park but more expense than what we usually pay but it...

Aug 25, 2013 - Colorado and onto Denver.

We left on time and there were no problems with bikes today! In fact Gary and I exchanged ours for fully functional ones in Denver. Gary's was starting to crab down the road and my issues were sorted with a new model Fatboy! No comments from the peanut gallery. First stage was a bit barren, but then we got into the hills and rode our way across the Rocky Mountains on way to Denver. The scenery was awesome. Not many photos because cops moved on people stopping on the highway. Rain was also chasing us again. But will get Steve's video...

Aug 25, 2013 - church

Grace had to work. We were real excited when Zack asked to go to church with us. We are so proud of that boy. We went to New Life of Christ FBC. We really enjoyed it everyone was real friendly. After lunch we got on the lite rail and rode all over Denver it is a easy town to get around in because of easy access to transportation. You can rent bicycles and smart cars at different places. I really like riding trams, trolley's and buses. We are having a great time with our grandson and his girlfriend.

Aug 24, 2013 - touring Denver

Zack's girlfriend Grace had to work today so Zack took us up into the mountains. We made our trip to Sam's then went to a mall up the street from the RV Park. It is probably the biggest mall I have ever been in. It has a small train you can ride on thru the mall. I think it is mainly for kids but adults will fit in it. Denver people are real friendly unless they are behind the wheel. Sometimes we think the gas is hooked to the horn. I think if I lived here I would try to use the light rail or the bus all the time. The mountains are...

Aug 22, 2013 - Traffic

Had a good ride to Denver but traffic was terrible once we got in town. The camp ground we had picked out was full but they were kind enough to call another one to see if they had space and they had a few back ins left. It is a real nice park but its the most we have ever paid in almost 3 years of traveling $48 a night. The Rocky Mountains are right behind us. We will be here through Sunday night. We haven't seen Zack or Grace he is working tonight. Zack will be off the next 4 days we hadn't seen them in a year. Had a dandy storm this...
