Oct 26, 2016 - Home!

We got home around lunchtime (we stopped at a truck wash first). We were able to get almost everything unloaded and I got 2 loads of laundry done this afternoon. Tonight, I spent an hour soaking in my tub. Heavenly! The dogs spent the afternoon in the backyard, chasing each other and the occasional squirrel. The house feels huge compared to where we've been living for the past month. It's great to be home! Thanks to everyone for following along with us. See you again in just a few months, when we go down to our winter hideaway in the Texas...

Oct 16, 2016 - Fear, Loathing, and Friendship

As we were leaving Wyoming, I contacted my dear friend, Jules in Golden, Colorado to see if we could stop over to see her and her husband, Keith on our way back to Oklahoma. We were on our way to their house, when we stopped at St. Vrain State Park to hike and stay the night before arriving in Golden. At this point, me and the pups had been in Gypsy Red almost non-stop for 2 1/2 weeks. I had noticed Presley starting to get antsy being in such a confined space with me and Os. For those of you that know Presley, you know she is my...

Oct 2, 2016 - First week and a half

September 23, 2016 (Friday) – Got off as expected just after noon. Spent the first night in a Flying J Travel Plaza. September 24, 2016 (Saturday) – Got going early because we had a long trip (485 miles) to Tunica, MS. But, because we gained an hour (time change to Central Time), we stopped in Tupelo, MS to see Elvis’ birthplace. Very interesting. Attached are few pictures. The family had a very hard life until they moved to Memphis. And you know the rest of the story. Couldn’t resist a little gambling at one of the casinos – right off the...

Sep 22, 2016 - Cruise Ship

Is it possible to “take a vacation” when you’re retired? How do you define “going on vacation”? Is it any time you’re not working? Is it whenever you’re traveling for pleasure not business? By either of those two definitions, I’m always on vacation! I’ve decided that, for me, vacation is any time that I’m not sleeping in my own bed in my own home. (My home just happens to have wheels.) I had recently made a reservation for a ten-day cruise. So, by any definition, I’m on vacation. The itinerary for this cruise is to visit nine cities in four...

Sep 12, 2016 - Wayne seeing the doctor and Charlotte seeing her cousin

Okay, it's Charlotte again....A busy morning with a drive down to Colorado Springs for an 8:30am appointment for Wayne with a doctor to examine his back. It was getting somewhat better but there were times when Wayne would just groan in pain when he moved the wrong way. The doctor was hopefully going to recommend him to a physical therapist and to get an MRI, both of which happened. After the doctor's office we decided to get some breakfast and, as usual, Wayne found a fantastic restaurant that was packed and rightfully so. We sat on the...

Sep 11, 2016 - BBQ with Charlotte's cousins

Charlotte....again...Today was the drive up to Pam's. I have many memories of BBQs in her and David's (her husband) backyard. They have a huge round stone table with a stone lazy susan in the middle. It's under a roof so if it sprinkles you can still sit out there. Off to the right is a beautiful small pond where a bear once sat, eating the fish they'd put in it....now THAT was a story! Robin and his wife Sue came so it was a wonderful family time catching up while eating some absolutely delicious hor's doerves. David is a great cook and...

Sep 10, 2016 - Seeing an old friend and Charlotte's cousin

from Charlotte .... Wayne asked me to do the next three days cuz it's mostly about our time in Denver that was wrapped around family and friends since we lived in Colorado Springs for about 10 years and my Chandler cousins, Pam lives in Boulder and her brother, Robin, lives in Denver. We've kept in touch all these years. The day started with a lunch meeting with James and Kellie who are good friends from Colorado Springs. He and Wayne have kept their friendship going since we've been in California so it was imperative we see them....

Sep 9, 2016 - Heading to Denver, CO

Today we are up early to travel again. Today we are going to Denver, CO and stay at Buckley AFB. Sun was out and the wind was mild today, so a fairly nice drive. Buckley AFB is east of downtown Denver on the edge of the plains, with the winds blowing most of the time. After getting set up we ran over to the commissary for some groceries and back to put them away. The temp here is so much cooler than what we have been experiencing in the rest of the trip. I spent the rest of the day trying to make an appointment for a doctor to see about my...

Sep 7, 2016 - Homeless

When I left Massachusetts in July, I knew that I'd be returning in September to attend my niece's wedding. I had decided to drive to a large airport, making it easy to catch a plane back to Massachusetts. After six weeks of heavy driving, I finally reached Denver site of one of the largest airports in the world. I had already made arrangements for a bunny sitter for Pooka. I had contacted the Colorado House Rabbit Society (yes, they really exist). They had recommended a woman who volunteers for the Society and who works part-time at a pet...

Jul 31, 2016 - In Denver

We left Glenwood Springs on Saturday morning about 9:30AM. I-70 East bound from GWS takes you through the beautiful Glenwood Canyon, where the freeway is in an over and under configuration as if follows the Colorado River. It also takes you over two very steep passes--Vail Pass at 10,662 feet and the Eisenhower Tunnel at 11,158 feet. The tunnel is the longest mountain tunnel and the highest point on the Interstate Highway System. The Aire averaged 5.3 MPG from GWS to the tunnel--pretty good I think!! We arrived in the Denver area and parked...

Jul 10, 2016 - Alive & well...

It's been some time since I did a post hasn't it! Oh my, it's been quite a ride lately. But for tonight I'll just say we have landed at the Elk's Lodge in Westminster, Colorado for two nights. It is quite warm (about 100 degrees) but we have AC & enjoyed having dinner here this evening after getting settled in. It was a lovely drive today but I haven't downloaded the pics yet so will get that done sometime tomorrow. We're on our way to South Dakota & will arrive on Tuesday. There's much to chat about but it's 2:30am & I need to go to BED!!!...
