Aug 19, 2018 - Best Laid Plans

Things did not go as planned today. Originally I had a Grayline bus tour on the itinerary for today. On Friday when I went to book it I found out it was in the afternoon rather than in the morning like most of these tours are. As it turns out it didn't matter because today's tour was already sold out on Friday. Was at the Visitor's Center when they opened at 10. After talking to a rep, booked a 1 PM tour w/ Banjo Billy's Bus Tours. Since I had 3 hours to kill walked, the 16th Street Mall end to end and had lunch before heading to the pick...

Aug 19, 2018 - Denver

August 19, 2018 We had a lovely 15 walk to the Barolo Grill and knew we would want to walk back after dinner. This 26 year old restaurant in a residential area of Cherry Creek was bustling when we arrived at 7:45. A very cordial fellow greeted and ushered us to our table. After we selected our waters, the same fellow returned with the wine list. It was apparent that Bob had studied the list and so the discussion began!! It turns out the fellow was Ryan Fletter, the owner, who started as a bus boy 23 years earlier! We settled on 2014...

Aug 18, 2018 - Rocky Mountain High

Spent a great day at Rocky Mountain National Park. After a stop at the Beaver Meadows Visitors Center for some hike suggestions and to stamp my passport, I started the day out w/ a hike to Cub Lake. This was initially a rather easy hike on the floor of on of the valleys but about 1/2 mile before Cub Lake it began to rise rather sharply. A light rain also began to fall about this time. Finally made it Cub Lake and hiked to the far end, then turned around and headed back. Had considered a loop route but that would have been over 7 miles and I...

Aug 18, 2018 - Craig to Denver, CO

August 18, 2018 Woke up to rain this morning which is welcomed by those in Colorado. Cleared up after breakfast when we went into Craig. During our last visit we did not see the wood carvings in the city park. In 1999 Craig looked for a way to preserve cottonwood trees deteriorating in the park. They left the tree stumps for local artists to decorate with elaborate carvings using a chainsaw. There are about 50 around the park. Lots of fun. We found the kitchen store we loved last time. There is new ownership but the same very interesting...

Jul 31, 2018 - Day 1 - Denver to Topeka

Day 1 – Denver to Topeka This is like a dream come true for us. We have wanted to go to this sale for years, but Gene was chairman of the church bazaar and this was always the clean-up weekend when they took down the booths, tents, advertising, etc. Then, the last couple summers didn’t open up for us. But, now we are FINALLY going – WAHOO!!! Treasure Hunting on this scale takes a lot of planning and upfront work. We mapped out our route, booked our hotels, tricked out our little cargo van with hooks to hang coats, hats, rain gear, shopping...

Highway 127 Sale

Apr 5, 2018 - Thursday 4/5/18

We got home around 1pm today, and spent the rest of the day unpacking the rig. This evening, Bill opened and sorted nearly 3 months of mail while I made the grocery list for tomorrow. In the mail was this letter. I think I mentioned several weeks ago that John Taylor was having trailer problems on the day he and Vicki were scheduled to leave. Bill and a couple other winter Texan guys helped them fix the problem, while the wives kept Vicki company. I’ve been trying to explain in my blogs how wonderful the people are in Kerrville. How nice is...

Sep 30, 2017 - Eisenhower slept here

Denver, CO We started with a bus tour of downtown Denver which included Coors Field, LoDo, Larimer Square, and a guided tour of the Molly Brown house. This 3-story landmark was once the home of American philanthropist, socialite and activist Margaret Brown, known as “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” for surviving the sinking of the Titanic. Our guide was excellent and we learned a few things we had never known. Margaret Brown was quite a lady! We also did a tour of our current lodging, The Brown Palace Hotel, again with a delightful and...

Sep 29, 2017 - Money, money, money

Denver, CO Apparently Amtrak has a reputation for being late. We were delighted, therefore when our train arrived in Omaha a few minutes early. We passengers all piled on, found our respective seats, and settled in for our 12:20 am (yes, that is AM) departure. Then we sat for 1 ½ hours as Amtrak attempted to add another car. The car being added was Union Pacific so, apparently, not all of the connections connected. One of those connections was electrical so we sat for the hour and a half with no power – no lights, no ac, no toilets, and no...

Choo Choo Colorado

Sep 19, 2017 - We are almost ready!

Here is our 120 page treasure map around the "loup" in Nebraska. This is such a well-organized sale. So much good food, tons of treasures, and 500 miles of opportunities. The number of sales has increased from 720 to 760 this year. My bargaining skills are almost honed to perfection so I figure I can make it on the same amount of money as last year. If not, the guidebooks has so helpfully identified where all of the ATMs are (not the bathrooms, but the ATMs). Please join us on our adventure! We may even eat peanut butter rolls at the Senior...

Trip West 2017

Aug 23, 2017 - Denver CO

Denver, or rather Aurora traffic wasn't too bad getting to Buckley AFB. It got much worse as time progressed. The famcamp has lots of space between the RV spots. Their water wasn't working so camp sites were half priced. There were some fire hydrants that had spigots so you could fill your water tank. Our site was right next to one and we could run our hose to it every time we needed water. I did a couple of loads of wash while we were there. It is fun being on the base. Reveille every morning at 8 AM. Retreat and the Star Spangled Banner...
