Oct 22, 2012 - Estes Park, CO to Denver, CO

Day fifty two: Destination- Denver Soundtrack- John Mayer, Derek and the Dominos, and Weird Al Here's the view we woke up to at the hotel this morning. We checked out Rocky Mountain National Park this morning. Most of the roads and buildings were closed for the season, and there was a fire. It was extremely hazy from the smoke, and there wasn't much to do. We didn't spend much time in the park, but the mountains are beautiful. We ate lunch in the park right in front of a whole herd of elk... Although there was an Asian gentleman who...

Oct 15, 2012 - Denver Airport

We took Jared to the airport this morning for his flight back home to Las Vegas. We had a wonderful time with him and miss him much. We stopped on the way to the airport for one geocache. He didn't have any for the state of Colorado, now he can mark Colorado on his geocaching map. I am adding a few pictures of the Denver International Airport, it is a very cool airport. At 53 square miles it is the largest airport in the United States by total area, and the second largest airport in the world after King Fahd International Airport. Check...

We left Casper this morning around 10 and arrived in Denver around 5. We did make a stop for lunch and a bit of shopping at Walmart in Fort Collins, Colorado. We drove about 280 miles and are very happy to be set up for the next few days at Chatfield State Park. We are about to get our fire going outside. The sun is about to set over the beautiful mountains. We are all happy campers. :-) Check back later for more from Colorado.

Sep 26, 2012 - Denver CO

Again we stayed at Cherry Creek Park. That really is the most amazing place. Mac often rides his bike down there. Today he came in his car and drove us on a tour before we followed him home. Besides the reservoir, the model airfield and the campground, there are bike trails, hiking trails, horseback riding trails, picnic spots and a Family Shooting Center with fixed targets for rifles and pistols and a trap area for shotguns. The park rangers lead interpretive walks during the summer. In winter outdoor enthusiasts can ice fish or cross...

Sep 11, 2012 - Canon City to Westminster, Colorado

What do you get when you mix an active river and a train ride? One happy, happy Pam!!! We decided to take the a ride on the Royal Gorge Route Railroad. The two hour ride took us through the Royal Gorge, with the Arkansas River beside us. The lower section of the gorge (the downstream part outside Canon City) has high rock cliff walls. As you get to the middle part, the river twists and turns through the high walls and then you look overhead and see the Royal Gorge Bridge. This bridge, which Nick crossed by car back in the 1970's, is now...

Aug 31, 2012 - Rocky Mountain Balloon Fest and Airshow

The Rocky Mountain Airshow included the Balloon Fest for the first time this year. It was a great success! The Western Spirit Balloon pilot and crew participated in the Media flight on Friday morning along with Smokey Bear, Tetrahedron and The World Balloon. Our media guest was Mahala from the Denver Post. We had a great flight and landed in Interlocken Business Park. Although the illum on Friday night morphed into "Candles in the Night" the crowd loved getting up close and personal with the balloon crews and pilots. Saturday morning proved...

Aug 22, 2012 - Denver

Arrived at Cherry Creek State Park on Sunday, super nice park with many walking trails and lake. After leaving Custer we decided to drive on into Denver, long day but glad to be able to relax on Monday. Our coach is now a year old and we had a few warranty issues which were taken care of here in Denver yesterday; while waiting there was an outlet mall close so we hung out there with Maddie. Bill sat outside on a bench with her while I did some shopping, she was a very good girl even when we ate lunch outside, she just sat and people stopped...

Aug 15, 2012 - Jackson to Denver

Starting in Jackson, we drove north to US287 then southeast toward I80. There was lots of road construction and we lost nearly 25 minutes to delay's. Even with all the construction, the scenery was just beautiful. We continued on to Lander, WY for lunch. After, we drove on to Rawlins, then to Larime. Carolyn brought us into Denver. After a total of nearly nine hours of driving we were ready for a drink and dinner at Grape St.

Aug 14, 2012 - Sights in Downtown Denver

We are coming to an end of our time in the Denver area. Today was our last day of sightseeing in downtown Denver. We parked in a parking garage and walked the shady sides of the streets to go see the state capitol and the art museum. The state capitol has a beautiful gold dome which is being restored. We went around the state capitol on our own and saw the Old Supreme Court Room, House of Representatives, Senate and reception area of the Governor's Office. We've been to a lot of state capitols and as we left I remembered how much I enjoyed...

RV Trip Summer 2012

Aug 13, 2012 - Denver, CO

Monday morning before we left Loveland, we headed out to breakfast, since it was a relatively short drive to the Denver area. As we were pulling out of the RV park in the car, a small bear ran across the road in front of us! Guess he was headed toward the river in the campground to go fishing. We left Loveland around 11am and headed south on I-25 toward Denver. We’re staying in Aurora, a suburb of Denver and in the same place we stayed last year…. Cherry Creek State Park. It’s a beautiful campground with lots of room between the sites and...

Aug 8, 2012 - Denver, Colorado Trip (Summer 2007)

We flew to Denver. The firs night there we ate at Pasquini's pizza, which was honestly pretty terrible. I don't remember the order we did things, but one day we went to Elitch Gardens, which was the best part of the trip. It was my first time on an actual roller coaster. We also went bike riding on a path through a more rural area, where I saw a bunch of prairie dogs. We spent one afternoon in a park, which was fun. My sister and I spent the night at my cousins' house one night. States passed through: Left from New Orleans, LA airport and...
