Aug 9, 2013 - Delta Steam Pot

We visited the city of Delta again today, this time for the steam pot special at Bruce’s Café. They bring you a pot full of crab legs, shrimp, scallops, red potatoes, corn on the cob and Cajun sausage. It was yummy! You also get a salad bar and soup. They have this special on Friday’s only for $15 each. Delta demonstrates a strong love for public art with numerous murals, sculptures and floral displays all along the Main Street and throughout town. It is a beautiful town with some of the largest and most outstanding flowers we have ever...

Jun 20, 2013 - Stepping Back Into Days Gone By

From Kings River Bend RV Park – Montrose, CO A bit of area history was the agenda for today. We accomplished this by visiting two “living museums” each telling the story of the people and their way of life through some original but mostly reconstructed buildings of the era. Most impressive with both museums was the authenticity and abundance of furnishings inside the various buildings. First history lesson was that of Fort Uncompahgre. The term “fort” is not exactly accurate. Although called a fort is was never used or intended for military...

Jun 14, 2013 - Find In City Park Leads To Another Canyon

From Kings River Bend RV Park – Montrose, CO The day we visited the Ute Indian Museum we also walked across the street to a small city park on the Uncompahgre River’s edge. Amongst walkways under shade trees and a boardwalk through the marsh leading to the flowing river we noticed a group of what appeared to be monuments of some kind and decided to take a closer look. The four cement monuments were in honor of the Dominguez-Escalante Expedition of 1776 which traversed this area of western Colorado. This was an expedition by two Franciscan...

Jul 31, 2006 - Delta, Colorado

7/31 Continuing on US50 we headed for Delta, Colorado and the Four Seasons River Inn and RV Park (about 63 miles). We will be staying there for a couple of days to visit a museum and pick up our mail. In July we put 1546 miles on our house and 881 miles on our Jeep. 8/1 - 8/2 In Delta, Colorado there is a reproduction of Fort Uncompahgre, located about 1.5 miles from the original location. The original fort was used for fur trading and was active between 1826 and 1844. The fort reproduction included rooms for boarders, a kitchen and baking...

Dec 24, 2005 - Eckert

Aeshe and I returned to Eckert today, revisiting more gorgeous scenery of snowy hills, frozen lakes, icy rivers, and deer, deer, everywhere! I even saw genuine reindeer. Unfortunately the deer seem to have a magnetic attraction to the road, so for every live deer I saw (some complete with antlers, even more exciting!) there were the same number of road-kill deer. I found that a little disturbing at first, but I suppose it's not a lot different to the road-kill kangaroos which feature along the roads at home, so I got used to it fast enough...
