Saturday, August 27, 2016 - We moved today from Colorado Springs KOA to Garden of the Gods RV Resort, both in Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs KOA couldn't extend our stay there for a few more days as they were completely booked, so we were able to find a space at nearby Garden of the Gods RV Resort, located at 3704 W. Colorado Avenue. We didn't realize how much there was to see...

(Note: Click on "View all photos", then double click on first photo to open to size of screen, then click on "Slideshow,5 sec" to automatically advance photos). Friday, August, 26, 2016 - Tommy had been saying that he needed a haircut, so I finally volunteered to cut it for him. We've had a set of clippers for years, but it's been a long time since I used them, so I took out the instructions to review how to cut a man's hair. He seemed a little hesitant about the whole haircut idea when he saw me reading the instructions, but I assured him...

Thursday, August 25, 2016 - We were up early this morning because we wanted to eat breakfast at the café here at Terry Bison Ranch before getting on the road to drive to Colorado Springs, CO. We walked over to the café, had some tasty Dunkin Donuts coffee and a good hot breakfast and managed to be on the road by 9:30 a.m. It was an easy drive, south on I-25 for about 140 miles....

Aug 4, 2016 - Colorado Springs CO

August 4 Went back to the Garden of the Gods this morning to check out some trails that I did not see last time we were there. Later we visited Dianna's favorite place, Walmart, to get resupplied before our move to Estes Park tomorrow. It is supposed to rain starting tonight. Don't really need the rain anymore as we ran the truck through a car wash a couple of days ago. It really needed it as over the last weeks it accumulated a lot of dirt, but it is reasonably clean now. Tomorrow we leave for Estes Park which is the little town just...

Aug 3, 2016 - Colorado Springs CO

August 3 This morning we went to a reconstructed cliff dwelling in Manitou Springs. In the early 1900s the town went to the Mesa Verde area and removed some cliff dwelling blocks, moved them to the Manitou Springs area and reconstructed the dwelling. We also went to Miramont Castle, the restored victorian home of a clergyman and his wife. In the afternoon I went to Seven Falls. They are a series of 7 cascading waterfalls in a canyon with 1400 foot walls. It was a nice walk to the falls through the canyon. Tomorrow is our last day in...

Aug 2, 2016 - Colorado Springs CO

July 27 Today we hooked up the trailer and moved to Canon City. It is the home of Royal Gorge, where a bridge spans the gorge hundreds of feet over the Arkansas River. The last part of the trip followed the river through the gorge. It was very scenic with mountains on both sides of the highway. July 28 Did a day trip to Victor and Cripple Creek, old mining towns tucked up in the mountains. We went there via the Phantom Canyon Road, a gravel road built on an old railroad bed. About 20 miles through the mountains with some nice scenery....

Jul 27, 2016 - Home at Mountaindale

Marilyn & I shared our morning coffee inside the RV this morning, with the fireplace on. Outdoors at Raton Pass, it was a beautiful but cool morning. At nearly 8000’ elevation, the temperature in the 50’s was a bit too cool to enjoy sitting outdoors. It was right at 9:00 AM when we followed Eddie & Jan out of the RV Park, heading north into Colorado. We stopped at Trinidad for fuel and continued on through Walsenburg, and Pueblo, where we turned west on Hwy 50 toward the small town of Penrose, where we turned north again, this time on Hwy...

Jul 15, 2016 - Las Vegas to Colorado Springs

After almost a month, we finally left Las Vegas for Utah. The first leg was fairly short, only three hours, and we ended up in the southern part of Utah around Kanab, Utah just past Saint George. My goal was the temple at St George, but Kanab is a great jumping off point for Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon and a few other interesting places. We had already visited most of those so my main concentration was on a temple visit for Julieann. I learn something new at almost every temple I take her to. This trip I learned that the St George...

Wed. June 22 we are leaving Terry’s Bison Ranch & RV Park & our slide won’t go in properly. They were most helpful & CW got the slide in manually hoping we can get it looked at our next stop Manitou Springs. Hey All, I drove the MH for the First Time!!! Out of the site & down the road & made 2 turns inside the park. (: Today we drove through Denver & it is the typical large city with 6 lanes of traffic, & a rapid rail system beside that. It took about 1 ½ hours to get through but gave us a chance to see the Denver City Wide Sport Complex,...

Jun 22, 2016 - Air Force Academy - Garden of the Gods

Today, we visited the Garden of the Gods early in the morning before the crowds arrived. In the afternoon, we visted the Air Force Academy which is on a really fantastic piece of property that backs up to the Rocky Mountains. In the evening, we visited the Broadmoor Hotel which is a historical hotel and home to the US Senior Open. The property has four golf courses. The hotel consists of several buildings surrounding a lake.

Jun 20, 2016 - Manitou, Colorado

Arrived this afternoon after leaving The Great Sand Dunes National Park. Had to cross over the Sangre de Cristo mountains through a pass that at its summit was near 10,000 feet. We did the pass early this morning when it was cool so that it would be easier on the motorhome. It is difficult to keep a rear engine diesel running cool on a hot day and especially going up a mountain highway. We are staying at Pikes Peak RV Park which is at the base of the mountain and next door to Colorado Springs. It is hot and dry and the cottonwood trees are...

May 24, 2016 - C. Springs, End of Year Parties

My end of year parties were the best. On Roman day they taught us how to join our shields together like a turtle shell to defend ourselves against invaders and 4th graders. I did really well on my recitation. I recited a poem called, "every time I climb a tree" by David McCord. I can't wait until summer vacation starts.
