Jun 22, 2016 - Air Force Academy - Garden of the Gods

Today, we visited the Garden of the Gods early in the morning before the crowds arrived. In the afternoon, we visted the Air Force Academy which is on a really fantastic piece of property that backs up to the Rocky Mountains. In the evening, we visited the Broadmoor Hotel which is a historical hotel and home to the US Senior Open. The property has four golf courses. The hotel consists of several buildings surrounding a lake.

Jun 20, 2016 - Manitou, Colorado

Arrived this afternoon after leaving The Great Sand Dunes National Park. Had to cross over the Sangre de Cristo mountains through a pass that at its summit was near 10,000 feet. We did the pass early this morning when it was cool so that it would be easier on the motorhome. It is difficult to keep a rear engine diesel running cool on a hot day and especially going up a mountain highway. We are staying at Pikes Peak RV Park which is at the base of the mountain and next door to Colorado Springs. It is hot and dry and the cottonwood trees are...

May 24, 2016 - C. Springs, End of Year Parties

My end of year parties were the best. On Roman day they taught us how to join our shields together like a turtle shell to defend ourselves against invaders and 4th graders. I did really well on my recitation. I recited a poem called, "every time I climb a tree" by David McCord. I can't wait until summer vacation starts.

May 18, 2016 - Colorado Springs, CO

Since we couldn’t check in at our next stop in Colorado Springs until 1pm and we only had a 2 ½ hour drive, we headed out to breakfast before leaving. What a cold and rainy morning. And not a lot of choices in Raton for breakfast…for sure! So we headed to McDonald’s, which we like for breakfast, and found out that they just opened the previous night. Talk about new! Then we were on our way. Since we had to go up the Raton pass which is extremely steep (you might remember that last year we came down it…definitely a white knuckle adventure in...

May 7, 2016 - Colorado Springs, Colorado. Seven Falls

Today was a fun day, with a trip to Seven Falls. It is seven different waterfalls coming from the same source, 14 stories high. We were able to park at a parking lot in the city and take a free shuttle to and from the falls. After paying our admission fee, we walked up a mile long uphill road. There was tram, but we footed it. There were 224 stairs to the top of the falls. I thought it would be alot harder. We did get more easily winded due to the high altitude of about 6800 feet. The falls were absolutely gorgeous as you'll see in the...

May 6, 2016 - Dodge City, Kansas to Colorado Springs, Colorado

This morning Jim made some delicious French toast on the grill. Then we went to see Boot Hill and the old town of Dodge City, Kansas. We went into replicas of the original Dodge City, and saw a brief informative film about how it was settled. Among other things, were the Long Branch Saloon, Tonsorial Parlor, Undertaker, Blacksmith Shop, School, Church, Printshop, Jail, gambling room, and old guns. It was definitely worth the stop. Up until today, we made awesome time as there was little wind. Today was a different story. The RV is not good...

Candy drove over to Garden of the Gods this morning to check it out. She needed to stop at the store anyway to pick up some food for the boys since they will be here tonight. On her trip to Garden of the Gods a gentleman was trying to get his Class C motorhome around a curve and got wedged between two rocks. He ended up getting some major damage to his motorhome, ended up knocking out the side window out of his coach. Not sure how he every got out. Mike showed up early evening with his girlfriend Jerrica with the boys, Domenic and Kaden and...

Apr 28, 2016 - Colorado Springs CO

We took it easy today because we are going to drive to Mike’s new home in Castle Rock this afternoon to see his it. The weather is crazy around here since it is snowing off and on today. We departed the campground and the snow was coming down pretty good. As we were drive north on I-25 the snow was picking up but after about 40 minutes driving the snow stopped and it appeared it hadn’t snowed the closer we got to Castle Rock. We got to Mikes’ it was clear. He has a very nice home with room for him and the boys. We spend so time there and...

The weather is not being the best. It has been raining off and on since yesterday. Not much can be done outside in this. Everyone but myself wanted to go to Safeway to get some stuff so I stay at the motorhome and was the dog sitter with Bailey. They were gone for a couple of hours and that was all anyone wanted to do so we just laid around the rest of the day. Some misc. pictures taken on our trip here.

Apr 25, 2016 - Colorado Springs CO

We are here for our first full day in Colorado Springs. Dawn will be coming in to spend the next few days with us. She is bringing her boyfriend Jeff. We have not met him but have heard a lot about him. He is a tanker driver for one of the oil companies and lives in Loveland Colorado, which is about 90 minutes north of Denver. We have been looking forward to meeting Jeff since he sounds like a good fit for Dawn. They got to the motorhome midday so we sat around and got to know Jeff and his dog, Bailey. They had rented a cabin here in the...

Apr 24, 2016 - Colorado Springs CO

Our days started out very cold and snow. We are surely to far north for me, so we started south to Colorado Springs. As we were leaving all the traffic was being diverted on west bound I-80 because of a serious accident with trucks and cars involved. There were semi’s parked everywhere waiting for it to open again. Heard on the radio that it could be tomorrow before the road is open again. On I-80 when something like this happens because there is not much but open range, it takes time to get help and get everything cleaned up. We were lucky...
