May 6, 2017 - The Notification

I was just playing with the neighborhood posse planning our summer when out of the blue my parents notify me we are going on a grand (old person code word for lame) summer adventure to the east coast of the united states. Even worse they told me I am going to miss the only day of school that I like. The last day! On the last day of school, no homework, no tests…just a party. So, all I know for sure is that I am going to miss a party and not going to get to play with my friends this summer.

Apr 9, 2017 - A trip to Loveland and Colorado Springs

4-9-17 A trip from Glen Haven to Colorado Springs Today is the long anticipated trip to Colorado Springs to visit with relatives and experience sunny weather. We started the day with brunch with Shirley and Marki (Julie’s aunt and cousin) at Mimi’s in Loveland, CO. After that we took a pleasant drive to Colorado Springs where we checked into the MCM Elegante’ Suites for a couple days. Had dinner with Jean and Andrea at Jean’s new digs then called it a day. Weather was very sunny but windy. Temperatures nearing the 70’s.

Jan 24, 2017 - Meeting Up With Friends In Colorado Springs

We finally arrived in Denver station 2.45am after spending 20 minutes outside the station turning the train so that we could reverse in. What a joy to see Geo there waiting for us we left the platform some eight hours behind our scheduled time. Fortunately the roads were nice & quiet at that time so in just over an hour we were safely back at Geo & Heidi’s house in Colorado Springs about fifty five miles South of Denver. We did get a few hours sleep after falling into bed at 4am but once it lightened up outside we soon woke up. We got the...

Sep 21, 2016 - Fort Carson and North Cheyenne Canon drive

Drove Cheyenne Canon drive up to place where it goes to gravel. That is where the road follows an old railroad bed, gold from Cripple Creek was transported by rail to Colorado Springs for processing. This is a deep red canyon with waterfalls and trees starting to turn. We missed half of the drive through the lower canyon, really beautiful We then went to Ft. Carson and learned about Ham Bone the famous mule who is buried on post, they have a good military museum, drove past building where I most likely worked 50 years ago. The only WWII...

Sep 21, 2016 - Colorado Springs

Thank you Angela for recommending 'The High Road to Taos' as an interesting way of getting from Santa Fe to Taos. The road was, indeed, very pretty and we saw some of the most unspoilt villaages we have seen anywhere. We saw domed ovens made of clay and even a wooden aqueduct in one small village. The Sanctuario di Chimayo was the prettiest building made of adobe that we have seen. Back with our friends, the Taos Pueblo made an interesting visit too. Larger versions of the ovens were in use there and there was a pretty graveyard with a bell...

Sep 20, 2016 - Air Force Academy

We drove to the Air force Academy and saw the glider program in action. They have the largest gilder operation in North America with 17,000 sortees per year. The tow planes were constantly taking up gliders and one could view them against the mountain backdrop. We didn't see this extent of activity when we were here before. We then went to the Exchange and used up the remainder $ that I had left on the Exchange gift card. The tire pressure monitor keeps coming on, called the dealership and she advised to give it time to adjust to the...

Sep 20, 2016 - PT and a museum

Up early this morning so I could be to the physical therapist by 8am. Good work out and tomorrow will be my last. I hope that the spasms don't come back, but if they do I have some exercises to work it down. After PT I grabbed some breakfast and headed downtown to deposit a check and then I am going to visit a couple of car dealerships to check out new cars, we might get one in a couple of months. Then it was off to the National Museum of World War II Aviation, and this time it was not crowded. A lot of memorabilia talking about the...

Sep 19, 2016 - Garden of the Gods

Very windy drive yesterday from Glendo - supposed to be winds up to 50 mph and the windsocks on the highway posts were very active. The left jack went down about 8" into the dirt pad, campground host was very apologetic and gave us a free day. We are on the second level of the campground and the view from the top would be ideal. If we ever stay again I will ask for a spot on the top. The campground is in the middle of town but close to the highway and fairly convenient. We first went to the Garden of the Gods, the visitor center has a good...

Sep 19, 2016 - PT, the Doc and lunch

Could sleep in a little this morning, I do not have to be to physical therapy until 10. Gave me a good workout and Cheryl showed me how to modify my golf swing so I am not working the back as much. Then after PT I had an appointment with the doctor, who happens to be in the same office. He was happy about the progress I had made and then we went over the results of the MRI. I am getting a little arthritis in my back and I have the beginning of a herniated disk in the middle of my back. Nothing major but I do have to keep an eye on it. The...

Sep 18, 2016 - Church, a drive and dinner

Up and out by 10 this morning, we are going to a church we had visited a couple of times while we lived in the city, Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel. Something looked different about it when we drove up but I could not place what it was. Then we entered the building and it was completely different than what I remembered, they had built a whole new chapel next to the old one. This one was large (I normally like a little smaller than this) but they had a great worship band. Since I work the sound board back at my church Calvary Monterey, I...

Sep 17, 2016 - Seeing the Springs and a High School football game

This morning I left the RV at 9am and stopped and had breakfast then headed down to the National Museum of World War II Aviation at the Colorado Springs airport. Got there and the place was packed so I decided to skip it and see it on Tuesday, the next day that it is open. So I drove around the city some more checking out different places that I had been to when we lived here to see what had changed and what had not. I have to say for the most part, the changes have been where I would expect them to and the places that stayed the same at...

Sep 16, 2016 - PT and Peterson's Air Museum

Up early again and this time I really do have a physical therapy appointment at 7:20am. This morning I will be having Cheryl working on me. She starts with a little rubbing on the back, but then goes into working on some exercises. She gives me three new exercises to do at home and has me doing them here for a while. The exercises that Jeff had me do were easy stretching, the ones Cheryl gave me were more strenuous and worked my back to a greater degree. She finishes up with the back rub and then tells me to bring one of my golf clubs on...
