May 30, 2010 - Doing nothing

Yesterday we all just kinda hung out and took it easy. Robert and Gary were checking over their trucks and campers and Rich prepared an excellent spagehetti, sausage and meatballs meal for us. Penny wasn't feeling well, so she just pretty much laid around. I guess Carole kept Rich amused. The river is higher today and still is very muddy. It sure has stopped our fishing plans, but when the snow melts in the higher elevations it has to go somewhere. Today we plan on going to a Bluegrass Festival in Salida, about 20 miles west of us. Hope...

May 30, 2010 - Movin' on tomorrow

We woke to a cool morning and more wind, but the sun is shinin' and I have no complaints. We're going to wander up the road twenty miles and check out a bluegrass festival, and I'm sure the guys will want to return to their fishin' lake too. Last night we took a walk just down the road to an old bridge on the Arkasas River. Looks like they used it to move cattle to the RR tracks on the other side of the river, neither of which seemed like they'd been used in awhile. The river is high and moving fast; the area where Rich sat fishing on the...

May 29, 2010 - Fish Tales

5/29/10 Big Horn RV Park Coaldale, CO Friday night we went down to the local general store to hear their bluegrass music. I love to see how local people entertain themselves and their neighbors. Nice people here and the music was....ummmmmmmm......entertaining. A bit off key, but I give them credit for getting up there. Yesterday morning we drove north for twenty miles to a town called Salida. The guys dropped Penny and I off to explore the little shops while they headed to a lake nearby to fish. We all had a great time. As soon as they...

May 27, 2010 - Colorado

We left Clayton, NM at 8:00 on Wednesday and headed north through New Mexico and into Colorado. We traveled through some really amazing country. There was enormous pasture lands for as far as the eye could see on our right with beautiful mountains, some with snow to our left. Penny said she felt like she was in a western movie. After getting off the "main" highway we continued our treck to Coaldale on a road that took us through some back country with more amazing views. We saw Antilope and Buffalo today along with countless cows grazing in...

May 27, 2010 - Fishin' Success

05/27/10 Big Horn RV Park Coaldale, CO As Gary said, we had an awesome drive from New Mexico yesterday. The views were like watching a John Wayne movie, only we never saw one cowboy all day! It was fun to see all the antelope and one herd of buffalo though, so no complaints. We passed so many cattle and horse ranches…saw a sign on an old homestead that said 1869! I’d love to hear the stories of the pioneers that originally settled in that area. What a hard life they must have had….wouldn’t they be amazed at our world today with Walmart,...
