Aug 15, 2016 - Grand Mesa Natl Forest

We continue to stay at Little Bear as the weather has been beautiful! We've hiked everyday and taken the atv for great rides on the forest service roads. On the way to the Observatory, we drove down 109 and had beautiful vistas across the valley. Have seen eagles, deer and a fox. Today was a provision day in Delta- gas, groceries, Walmart. Going back to eat fresh rainbow trout that our neighbors gave us!

Aug 11, 2016 - Crags Crest hike

We're still at Little Bear cg and had a great time yesterday riding the atv to the Land's End Observatory which has a view probably looking out 100 miles. Today we hiked about 3.5 miles up to Crag's crest where you can see off either side for miles. The trail was beautiful and not too extreme but just long. At the crest, you're at about 11,100 feet so our lungs knew it! Back to the campground before the rainstorm.

We stayed another day in this campground as it's beautiful and we have a great site. The cg host Pete, is wonderful so we've enjoyed talking with himThere's a great path along the lakeshore so we walked @ 2 miles. Drove down to Delta, Co. to pick up supplies. Went through a major hailstorm and the temp dropped to 48. By the time we reached Delta, we were back in the 80s- hottest since Denver.

Aug 7, 2016 - Grand Mesa Natl Forest

We left Dillon on the 4th and stopped in Glenwood springs for a delicious birthday lunch at Jilbertitos! Kept going until we reached hwy 65 to cut up to grand Mesa. This was a beautiful drive from 6000 ft up to over 10000. We found the Little Bear campground and got #9 right at Island Lake. There's no cell service so for the past 3 days, we've walked, hiked and took a 6 mile adventure ride on our new atv. Granby road right near the cc led us over a rocky road through wildflower fields to another lake. The temperature has been in the low...

Sep 8, 2010 - A Change in the Weather . . And Another. . And . . .

We enjoyed a great diversity of weather today. We joined Dan and Sue in their 1987 Jeep station wagon and headed towards the mountains with our cooler full of picnic goodies. We climbed up to over 10,000 ft. into the Grand Mesa National Forest. The weather was overcast with thick, dark clouds all around us. There are over 300 little lakes in the Grand Mesa area and lots of beautiful evergreen trees untouched so far by the bark beetles. We stopped at the visitor center where we saw a topographic map of the area which really showed the mesa...

Sep 7, 2010 - Cedaredge, Colorado

We enjoyed our quiet, uneventful holiday weekend. John participated in his annual Fantasy Football draft on Monday as I spent a couple of hours walking through the local WalMart. During the weekend, as I sat outside and read, I watched several flocks of geese flying over in formations, heading south. -- This morning, we traveled a short 38 miles north to the tiny town of Cedaredge. My cousin, Suzi (Sue) and her husband, Dan live on three acres in a gorgeous home they built themselves in Cedaredge. This is the first time I have seen them...
