Nov 11, 2015 - Paonia, Carbondale, and Avon

Jason met us for breakfast at the Bross. We all talked with a couple and their son. Kit, Karen and Brian. They had Jeep car troubles with the idle air handler (I think) and Jason ended up helping them out. Son Brian headed to big island in Hawaii. Interesting, fun conversations. Jason is getting ready for vacation in Belize before he heads out to Maryland for the holidays. We drove to Carbondale for stop at casual culture ski shop then on to Avon before 5:00 pm to get to HR office. We've been lucky with finding accommodations along the...

Scenic Route to Avon

Jul 11, 2015 - PSV-Personal Support Vehicle

The Triple Bypass ride began this morning in Evergreen, CO. Rob was rolling by 6:30, so we were on the road by 7:00 in order to meet them for refilling of hydration bottles at 8:30. It was exciting watching the riders go by, but difficult to pick out a particular rider in the crowd. By texting our location to them, they were able to find us when we were at the " crew" stops. When the riders would leave our location, getting to the next rendezvous became our mission. Some of the maneuvering was really tricky. A near miss is still a miss!...

Aug 11, 2011 - Arches N. P. to Avon, Colorado

Visited Arches National Park this morning. Wound up in Avon, Colorado....Walmart parking lot for night. May or may get more done on this....computer acting up...and its been a long day. Arches was great! Amazing what we have in these National Parks. We basically drove around and stopped at all the view points. One could see a lot more if you were into hiking a bit. However, it had to be close to 100 degrees and these seniors weren't going to venture off... I'll let the pics speak for themselves.... After that it was head down the road for a...

Sep 12, 2009 - Day 1 - arrival in Denver

Let the vacation begin. We all arrived without incident today. Kathy and Mark got in about 10am and got things set up. We picked up a Nissan Pathfinder (not much different than Steven's old car) but it does have 4 wheel drive. The ride up from Denver to Avon was a bit interesting. We ran into SNOW and HAIL. Yes, you read that right. We actually had snow flurries on the east side of the mountain range. Several cars had slid off the highway either into ditches or into the guardrail. The ditch seemed to be the better option. The hail was...

Desert Storm 2009

Aug 14, 2007 - John & Janet Dunham's 8/14/2007

As we left Terry Bison Ranch we saw their herd of Bison. It's a nice day and a little cooler than the past couple of days. The traffic picked up substantially once we were south of Fort Collins but no problem. It was then I70 from Denver west to Avon. Everything was great until we got to west Vail where the freeway came to a crawl. We also had some heavy showers after we went through the Eisenhower tunnel and up Vail Pass. We arrived at John and Janet's around 4:00. It is sure nice to visit with good friends. I know I have really missed this.

Alaska 2007

Sep 29, 2006 - Breckenridge, Colorado

We could not leave Colorado without exploring some of the best ski towns in the country. As we pulled into the Tiger Run Resort in Breckenridge, we were overwhelmed with the beautiful fall foliage and snow covered mountain views. The resort is like no other, nestled in the shadows of the Rockies and lined with rustic log cabins. It boasts an indoor pool, hot tub, workout facility and game room, and our pull-through site was just across the street from a shallow, rocky river. We rode our bikes on the 3-mile path into town the next day,...

Jul 23, 2005 - Aspen Canyon Ranch

We wake to the sound of the river running below our log cabin, the mountain chill in the air not yet dispersed by the sun. This was how it must have been for the fur-trappers, camped in the Colorado Rockies during frontier days. Assuming, that is, that fur-trappers took care to equip themselves with an en suite shower and mini-bar. We are guests of Aspen Canyon Ranch, where the cowboy lifestyle meets four-star comfort. Tourists have been attracted to ranches since the earliest days of the West, and ranchers soon got wise to the idea of...
