Jul 13, 2011 - Camping with the grandkids

We had a chance to take the boys camping for a couple days and we took them to Yucaipa regional. They have a water park, amazing, the boys had so much fun. Weather was perfect. We cooked hot dogs and smores with them. It was their first time in the new RV. They really enjoyed it.

Apr 11, 2011 - Part 2 practice trip

We spent 4 nights in Yucaipa Regional Park. This park is real close to home, but also very nice. Lots of trees, 3 lakes, two for fishing which is stocked and the season runs Nov to April. Summer time one of the lakes is for kids and has boat rentals, they have a swimming lagoon with water slide adjacent to the lake. Frisby Golf course and lots of trails. The RV sites are large and full hookups. No fire rings at the sites but there are 3 large ones available on large grassy expanses between campstites. Nice concrete pad, BBQ, Trees and...

Mar 19, 2009 - Touring Palm Springs Area

Today we let Gord do the driving and we played tourist. We drove up to a little artsy town called Idlywilde. It was a twisty turny road up a mountain and Doug was certainly glad that Gord was driving. We ate lunch at a place called the Red Kettle. The service was quite poor but the food was adequate. We then drove back down the mountain into the Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs area as Gord and Paulette wanted to see that famous city. We again marveled at the fantastic landscaping in this area. There is about a 30 foot set back from the roads...

Living Our Dream

Mar 18, 2009 - Big Bear Lake

It was another beautiful day and we took advantage of it. We took a scenic drive up to Big Bear Lake; a place that JoAnn has always wanted to see. We didn’t get to see much of the lake as we wound up driving through town. It was a sprawling resort town with hotels, rentals, and restaurants and most of them closed up as it is between seasons. There is skiing in the winter and cool weather and the lake in the summer. As we drove out of town we did see some skiers coming down one slope. Our drive was quite beautiful. We twisted and turned up...

Mar 17, 2009 - California Spring

You couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful spring day than the one we have had in southern California. We had sunshine, blue skies, a gentle breeze and many singing birds. JoAnn and Laurie went to a factory outlet mall this morning and had a good time. JoAnn bought some baskets that she had been looking for a long time. Doug took the truck in and had the oil changed, the transmission fluid changed and the coolant changed. We need our truck to last a long time so we thought it would be good to give it a treat of new fluids. He was also...

Living Our Dream

Mar 16, 2009 - This isn't the desert!

It got down into the 40’s last night and we loved it. We both slept really great for the first night in a while. We were also glad we had our propane heater this morning. After doing some administrative things pertaining to Doug’s appointments in Tucson we headed off to Wally World in Redlands, about 15 miles from here. Doug had to get an Rx filled and we needed some staples as well as Fillmore food. It was a pretty uneventful trip as Wally Worlds go, (the prescriptions were ready as promised!) but the traffic even around noon was...

Living Our Dream

Mar 15, 2009 - On to Yucaipa

Boy! Did we ever not want to leave Borrego Springs! It is hard to believe that we spent a month there. We know that we didn’t get to see a lot of areas we wanted to nor did we get to take all the hikes we wanted to. There is something peaceful about this little town that is refreshing. It has no franchises. They have so far successfully blocked condo development and a lot of the private homes that are here are well to do. It is quite a place. Carolyn and Sam left early this morning to 1000 Trails Park in Indio and when we drove through, we...

Living Our Dream

Feb 12, 2009 - Visit with Rev. Suzanne Leonard

Fillmore got a bath this morning. He doesn’t like them but he goes and gets into the shower when he is told and stands there patiently albeit unhappily while he is soaked, soaped and rinsed. JoAnn cleaned the floors downstairs so as to have them ready for a clean poodle. She is in charge of drying and usually uses her hair drier which he likes. Doug was in charge of cleaning the leftover mud out of the shower. He was really dusty! Shortly after that we drove into town and found a Mexican restaurant for lunner. It was quite good and rivaled...

Living Our Dream

Jan 4, 2009 - Yucaipa Regional Park, CA

We left Mitry Lake in a driving wind out of the north and fought it all the way to Banning. So much for our nice weather we were just bragging about! Lots of people out on the road, but traffic overall was tolerable. We drove over to El Centro and then north up the west side of Salton Sea -- a GREAT road all the way. We were fortunate enough to get a spot in Yucaipa Regional Park for 10 days. They have recently expanded the park and now have over 30 full hookup sites. Very quiet, very nice. We strongly recommend this park to anyone staying...
