Jun 8, 2009 - Banning to Ventura

June 7th We departed Banning about 8am on June 7th. Fortunately the winds had subsided during the night. It was still cloudy and cool, around 55 degrees. The traffic across I-10 to Highway 101 was light by LA standards and we arrived at the Ventura Beach RV Park about 11:30 am. Our site was available, so we set up, had lunch and went to the Channel Islands NP Visitor Center where we made arrangements for a tour to Anacapa Island on June 9th. We fueled in Oxnard on the way back to our RV park. The price for diesel here is around $2.75 per...

Pacific Coast 2009

May 31, 2009 - More Ventura Beach Adventures

Over the last few days we’ve biked along the Beach Promenade and walked the beagles on the Ocean’s Edge Trail. Charlie and I found those funky little fish restaurants on our bike ride, and had an excellent fish taco. We didn’t tell the beagles that they missed the doggie bar; they would have expected treats, not just water, anyway. We met for a great dinner at Enoteca, a wine tapas bar, near Dax’s house. The dogs all took us to a local dog park, and then we had to try the famous In n’ Out Burger, which has a well deserved reputation of...

May 27, 2009 - Exploring Ventura Beach

We drove around to get a feel for the area. Within walking distance is the Historic Downtown Cultural District, with shops, restaurants, and art galleries. The city was founded more than 1500 years ago as the Chumash village of Shisholop. It takes it’s modern name from Mission San Buenaventura, established in 1782 by Franciscan friars. The oceanfront district and beaches include surf breaks, an historic pier and promenade, beautiful parks, miles of scenic bike paths, and the Ventura Harbor Village, an upscale shopping and restaurant area....

May 26, 2009 - Ventura Beach RV Resort

This was probably Charlie’s most challenging drive, in terms of traffic. LA drivers are not thrilled with 55 feet of garage door lumbering down the highway. We had great RV directions from a Good Sam’s volunteer, which really helped, and once again were settled by early afternoon. We saw snow on the peak of Cajon Mountain, which was a surprise, and again, noted how much greener Southern California was. Other visits have been later in the summer, when everything was brown. Dax came over for hamburgers on the grill, it was good to see him again.

May 1, 2009 - Three days at Rincon

On Saturday (4/25) we drove up the coast for a three day stay. The weather was cool when we arrived but warmed up before the end of our stay there. Rincon beach is just north of Ventura off of the 101 Freeway. We joined our friends Jim, Nancy, Dale & Jeff there. The reason for this trip was actually to take part in a memorial service (we lost a good friend in March), we will miss her greatly. During our stay at the beach we took walks on the beach, explored the tide pools (that was really cool) and enjoyed the company of our friends....

Apr 26, 2009 - Moved to Ventura - Park Hosts at Lake Casitas (again)

We arrived in Ventura and were put into a new position as water park hosts. We are getting the water park in shape to open at the end of May. Looks like we'll stay here for approximately 60 days and then move on to the northwest if things go smoothly.

Apr 9, 2009 - Sunny CA

We arrived in Ventura last week after a long road trip south. This will be our last trip to California until we return with the boat in the fall. After all winter in the Pacific Northwest, it feels like summer in Ventura. What a treat! Our oldest son, Mike Jr. will be marrying the love of his life on Saturday 4/11. We are most pleased with the new addition to our family and are looking forward to sharing the day with family and friends. I anticipate having lots of pics to share with everyone soon. Many of you have asked how the generator...

Tales of Blue Aweigh

Nov 18, 2008 - Back On The Road Again

Tuesday 18th November I left LA today without really knowing exactly where I was going. I knew I was heading for the coast and then north but, apart from knowing the car is due back in San Francisco next Tuesday, I haven't really planned this part of the trip in any particular detail. I headed straight west to the world-famous Venice Beach first. As I've said before, I'm not a beach bum and I had no intention of exposing my pasty-blue English torso to the fierce LA sun (although my face, arms and legs are a nice colour by now, that much I...

May 12, 2008 - Ventura

Ventura is a coastal community about an hour and a half north of Los Angeles. On the way there I dropped in on my good friends Pam and Jay in Santa Paulo. They normally live in a cabin in Fairbanks,Alaska but they are down looking after Pam's Dad. This meant we caught up for the first time in about twenty something years. Pam and Jay have just bought a Flicker 24ft trailer sailer called QE2! It is in great condition and a wonderful buy. Even though it is on a trailor it has a fixed keel and steel hull. Pam and I went down to inspect it...

Apr 27, 2008 - Ronald Reagan Presidential Library

While we were in Ventura we took a side trip to Simi Valley to go through the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. They did a great job with the library, taking in Presidents Reagan early life in the movies and then his time as Govenor of California. Then on to the While House; there is video through out the library highlighting events that happened while he was in office.

Apr 2, 2008 - Lazy Daze Get Together / Morro Bay

There were about 20 Lazy Daze rigs in attendance. This was our first opportunity to finally meet other LD owners, compare notes and in general have a good time with some GREAT PEOPLE. Managed to get some painting done and did my first Plein Air with the Easyezel Jim had given me in preparation for this trip
