Jul 12, 2010 - Year 3 - Complete

Since we entered the country in early June, we spent a week in Avalon. Afterward we docked in Marina Del Rey to affect boat repairs (replacing stainless gates, stanchions, lifelines, bow and stern pulpits). We enjoyed spending time with our buddy, Peter aka Pedro, whom we shared lots of time with in La Cruz just after our boat was bashed. After the boatyard finished with us, we headed back to Avalon where our dear friends John and Cathy joined us there via the Catalina Flyer and stayed aboard a few days. We hiked, ate and drank (in that...

Jun 14, 2010 - Traveling on route 1, California

What a temperature changed! In Palm Springs, the trucks outside temperature recorded 104 degrees. By the time we hit Los Angeles; Chet was turning off the air and winding down the windows. It was now a cool 63 degrees. Yesterday, we were wearing shorts, sweating, and fighting the bugs as we tried to do our website outside near the clubhouse. Tonight, we are wearing jackets as we sit in the television room here at Malibu RV Park. As Chet and I entered California, we were thinking that a welcome center would be there. So far, the only...

Jun 10, 2010 - Our First Excursion Ends - Back to Scotts Valley for now

Well our travels have come to an end for now. Teresa and I are back home and enjoying a solid night sleep in our own bed. Dave's last day in Sydney was a profitable one netting him several hundred Aussie dollars playing poker at the Star City Casino. Now our focus will be in getting the house up for sale and moving to Las Vegas, finding an RV and planning the next edition of Trails and Tales, so stay tuned. We hope you enjoyed following along on our adventures. So until the next time: (Lyrics by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans) Happy trails to...

May 3, 2010 - Lake Casitas Recreation Area

Lake Casitas is actually about 10-15 miles northwest of Ventura. The drive down from Sacramento was long but traffic wasn't too bad. However I-5 is awful. It was fun to come through the Grapevine. Murray and Shelle were already there so setting up took longer that usual. It was great to see them. Their new trailer is laid out just about like their old one. It is very pretty with the cherry wood and the fabrics. Murray really likes Big Foot.

Apr 5, 2010 - Another California Beach, etc

Emma Wood SB We so very much enjoyed our days camping at El Capitan. After Chuck and Kitty left, we took their site. Even though we’d camped at El Cap dozens of times, we’d never been in Site #84. It is a wonderfully large site with great one-hundred eighty degree views of the ocean. During our El Cap stay, we saw Gray Whales migrating up the coast. If we didn’t see whales, we saw dolphins. But most days we sighted whales. Twelve days after we’d checked into El Capitan SB above Santa Barbara, we pulled out and drove about forty-five miles...

Mar 4, 2010 - Trying hard to update

Hello all: I have been trying to update this journal for several days now without much success - I blame it on the Good Sam site, slow Internet, slow computer, but it may be my dumb thumbs too?? Any way I have written several times and it hasn't gotten posted - This morning we are in Ventura heading south through LA to try to get to San Diego - It has been almost 20 years since either of us has been in LA so this might get fun - We spent a few days at Tasa, Brett and Lucias and had a good visit along with some apprehension of the 3" of snow...

Nov 19, 2009 - Home Sweet Home!

After a 36 hr overnight run we made Cuyler Harbor on San Miguel Island (northernmost in the Channel Islands). We did something that we NEVER do…enter a new anchorage at night. Luckily, all went well and there weren’t any lobster pots to foul our prop nor did we hit any rocks. Whew! It did blow all night as normal there. We could have done a little better anchoring in closer to shore to get more protection from the wind but we didn’t dare. So we got some sleep with the wind whistling over the decks. It was great to wake up in Cuyler Harbor....

Nov 4, 2009 - Ventura: Channel Islands
