Apr 23, 2013 - Rincon Beach

We stopped by Rincon Parkway to have lunch. Took our bikes for a ride to check out the spots. We will fit in spots, but not car. Car can be parked on street down the road from the RV spots. We also checked out Faria, first come, first serve. 7 day max and then must leave for 7 days. Some hook ups that we could fit into and some without we can fit into. Weather was great. Lunch is done, drive on.

Apr 22, 2013 - Driving San Diego to Ventura

Today we drove from San Diego north to Ventura to get in position to visit the Channel Islands National Park tomorrow. All the way from San Diego through Los Angeles, the freeway was 4 or more lanes in each direction, except for one short stretch of 3 lanes each way, and all of them were crowded with cars. Makes you wonder where all the people come from and where they´re going. And makes us glad we live in Mena where three cars in line at a stop light is a traffic jam. We made it here in time to go to the Visitors´Center for the park which...

Jan 17, 2013 - A Room With A View

David clearly has strep throat, or some kind of infection, that is making him unable to swallow, eat, feel like a real human being. But, because he read on the internet that one can beat strep without antibiotics, he is trying to fight it. Can you tell that I am less than pleased with this theory? I will just have to wait until he is light enough for me to carry into the truck and haul him to the doctor. Which should be any day now. So as not to tax him too much, we decided to boondock (to be fully self-contained, no hook-ups) a couple...

May 10, 2012 - Harbor Village

We visited the Channel Island Visitor Center today, we are preparing for our trip to the Channel Islands. We watched a long video and asked all the questions about the five islands. We have decided to visit Santa Cruz Island. We are doing a half day tour. They drop you off on the island and you are left to explore. We are taking a picnic lunch and chairs etc. It should be a fun day. We had a great lunch at Spinnaker Seafood Broiler in Harbor Village. We ordered the five fish skewer, it had a couple of bites each of mesquite grilled Mahi...

May 8, 2012 - More from Ventura

We are enjoying every minute of our stay in Ventura. We have spotted over 20 dolphins, three seals and a multitude of birds. I can't keep up with tracking all the birds. I am in bird heaven. :-) My favorite spot is in the recliner with my binoculars watching all the surfers and scanning the water for all the wildlife. It is hard to leave my favorite spot. :-) We did manage to take a drive downtown. I am adding a few pictures of the pier, the harbor and more. When we got back home, the tide was out. A whole new world of creatures showed up...

May 7, 2012 - Ventura, CA

We left Las Vegas this morning around 8:30. We drove about 345 miles to Ventura, California. We chose Ventura because of the tours leaving the area for the Channel Islands. We wanted to see the islands when we visited this area before and couldn't because of wildfires in the area. We are splurging and staying right on the beach, at Hobson State Beach, the price per night is $47, so we won't be here too long. :-) After being in the desert for three months, we are really enjoying the ocean view. We have a lot of exploring to do, check back...

Apr 20, 2012 - Ventura harbour

Today when we woke up we decided to eat breakfast at the hotel before going over to my dad’s house. Eric and Julia loved making their own miniature Belgian waffles. We really are going to have to get a Belgian waffle maker when we get home. They are so much tastier then regular waffles for some reason. After breakfast we got ready and then headed over to my dad’s. I spent some time talking to Grandma Jane and then visited with Uncle John for a while before we all left to go say hi to Jackie. When we got to Jackie’s house I was so surprised...

Apr 19, 2012 - Ventura

We had a really nice day in Ventura with my dad today. We’ve seemed to find a perfect balance of visiting and then us doing our own thing. The day started out with my dad taking us out for breakfast at eggs n’ things. It’s a really cute little restaurant decorated to make you feel like you were in a country kitchen. The food was really good too. After breakfast we went to the beach. It was a beautiful sunny day so we enjoyed lying out in the sun. Patric and Eric didn’t want to get in the water but Julia and I did. It was so much fun...

Jan 7, 2012 - Happy New Year

Happy New Year Everyone.......What?.......That holiday has passed already too? What is happening? I can't keep up with the calendar. Wish I could pull in the reigns and slow the buggy down a bit. It's sometimes hard to enjoy life when it keeps flashing by so fast. I probably don't remember New Years because Ed and I slept through most of it. Corinne went out to a party but we opted to stay home instead. We grilled some steaks, played Scrabble, watched a movie, drank a little champagne and were in bed by 10:00 p.m. We did watch the ball drop...

Dec 11, 2011 - From the Mountains, to the Prairies, to the Ocean........

We left Pahrump and drove 60 miles on a 2-lane road through the desolate desert heading for the ocean. The road was so straight and long that we actually measured how far we could see it ahead of us and we figured it was about 10 miles. We passed some big sand dunes on BLM land that obviously are used by campers and ATVs at some point, although there was only 1 rig parked near them when we went by. They were called Dumont Dunes and we had never heard of them, but one more spot to ride dune buggies. We got to Barstow, CA and spent the night...

Oct 7, 2011 - Cambria to Ventura

No clouds or rain today, cool but sunny. Packed up and down to the beach for breakfast out of the ute. We all got our boots and jackets dry overnight and were raring to go The cruise down the coast was still quite winding, slow at times but a lot of fun. The beach views were brilliant as we cruised the coast, golf courses and coastal towns. Lunch was a stop in Los Alimos at a burger bar that was out of the sixties. There was an old 1800's saloon from the stage coach days a block up from lunch that we visited. Downstairs was the bar and...
