May 23, 2013 - Three Rivers, CA - Sequoia RV Ranch

Our trip from East Porterville to Three Rivers, CA was a short 53 miles through the orange groves in the valley. With just a couple of exceptions most of our trips in the future will only be 100 miles or less which are much more enjoyable than the longer ones like the previous one from Joshua Tree. We are staying at the Sequoia RV Ranch about three miles north of Three Rivers. It's probably the best park in Three Rivers but our site is a little small. They have nicer ones on the river or just off the river but they are completely shaded...

May 16, 2013 - Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP

We have been staying at Sequoia RV Ranch in Three Rivers, California for the past three days. Unfortunately, awoke on Tuesday with a rash all over my entire body. Now, this may be TMI for some but seriously, what else can happen? Must be Bobitis or something like that. In any event, we drove to Sequoia NP on Wednesday in the Jeep. The road, Rt. 198, was under construction in the park so we had to wait for at least a half hour on three separate occasions which cut our time at the park significantly. We visited the General Sherman tree; the...

Apr 10, 2013 - Three Rivers, CA

Traveling here was quite a memorable trip. We left Boron in the northern Mojave Desert, very bleak, and ended in the mountainous approach to Sequoia National Park. Along the way we traveled 75 miles of desert, up thousands of feet through a pass with 20 miles of climbing into the Tehachapi Mountains and down another 20 miles to the San Joaquin Valley. As soon as we were in the Tehachapi Mountains everything changed from desert to green hills and mountainsides. Maybe the desert was starting to get to us, but we really enjoyed the green...

The Great Escape

Oct 11, 2012 - Sequoia & Kings Canyon

We had a pretty easy drive across the state to Three Rivers where we will saw Sequoia and King's Canyon National Parks. Three Rivers is really tiny. It is at the enterance to Sequoia. It is bigger than Prospect was but not by much. We didn't know that Sequoia trees are as big as Redwoods. I believe it is a type of redwood tree. The trees on the coast are Coastal Redwoods which only live on the coast of Calif. The sequoia's can only live between 5000 and 7000 feet. Redwoods are taller, but Sequoia's have more volume (more wood). While in...

Jun 14, 2012 - Barstow to Three Rivers (Sequoia)

Leisurely morning with biking in the gym, Best Western breakfast and a walk to Starbucks for coffee. Very sad looking area with so many closures. Barstow is clearly a “resting spot” for travel in all directions. Interstate 15 to LA/Las Vegas, Interstate 40 to Flagstaff, Hwy 58 to Bakersfield, Hwy 395 to Bishop etc. Pepper was again very anxious and I spent most of the ride in the back fighting him off me with his bed. The trip is over as far as he is concerned! Stopped at Costco in Visalia for lunch and a few things. I had doubts about...

Apr 10, 2012 - Off to Three Rivers

It has been so long since we broke camp that our rhythm was way off but we eventually got it done. It takes a little patience to get four rigs all ready to leave about the same time because some take longer than others. We were a little beyond our planned 9:30 departure time but the 100 mile trip was without drama. The drive from the Visalia area into Three Rivers is very pretty – the flowers were out and the hills are a nice green. The four rigs were us, the McDoles, the Stacks, and the Gaverns. We got to the Lions “campground” before noon...

Oct 2, 2011 - Sequoia National Park

We left Monterey Peninsula on Friday and headed for Sequioa National Park on the East border of California. It was about a 4 hour drive, and we arrived early afternoon. We did some laundry the day we got there and then relaxed. They had a nice outdoor sitting area where we sat while the laundry was going. On Sunday the plan was to drive into Sequioa Park to see the giant trees. About 1/2 way there, the roads started getting very narrow and windy, so I decided I would prefer to stay at the hotel and wait for the others to go to the...

Aug 29, 2011 - Sequoia National Park

We drove 265 miles to an RV park in Three Rivers, California. The campground was located near Lake Kaweah and nestled in the foothills of the Sequoia Mountains. The next morning we went to the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks following the Generals Highway. We stopped and took a few pictures on the way. Our first major stop was the "Sentinel". This tree is a 2,200 year old sequoia and is a monster compared to most trees. The Sentinel is only average in size to the other sequoias which are nearly twice as large. The next sequoia we...

Apr 8, 2011 - The Sierra Nevada mountains of Three Rivers

The rain did cease and the festival was wonderful. And all the pictures I took are gone. We went to Sacramento after the festival and, while playing golf with Mike and Sally at a course in Antelope, my purse was stolen from our car and the camera was in it. We won't even talk about it except to say it wasn't fun. Anyway, these pictures are Mike's and he didn't attend the actual jazz concerts.

Jul 28, 2010 - Truck Adventures

We had a 100 mile drive today, so we left around 10:30AM from Bakersfield. About 25 miles down the road the battery warning light came on. Susan searched the truck manual--no description of what it meant. So we kept going while Susan called our Ford Dealer in Boerne, Texas. David Garcia, the service rep who handles our truck said it was the alternator and we needed to get it fixed. Then we told him we were in California! So we next called the RV park--Sequoia RV Ranch. They were GREAT! We got the name and phone number of a Ford Dealer in...

Jun 16, 2010 - Sequoia And Kings Canyon National Parks

, Our week continued with a magnificent trip to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. They are actually two separate Parks east of Fresno, CA, but are generally considered to be together. We had an uneventful trip to the Sequoia RV Park in Three Rivers, CA. As we were getting everything set up, all the power went out. We figured we must have blown a circuit breaker by running the AC and the microwave at the same time. The problem was we couldn’t find the circuit breakers. Having bought the RV used we only got one basic manual and I...

Jun 9, 2010 - River View

Hello to all...we have truly enjoyed the first stop on this adventure. What a better way to start it than on Dennis' birthday! As we told you before, we took off in the wee hours of the morning on June 3rd from Covina so that we could enjoy a leisurely drive from Covina to our first stop, Three Rivers/Kaweah, California. We had reserved our space at the Sequoia RV Ranch about two months ago and when I called I was fortunate to obtain the best spot in the park. Our RV is parallel and within 10 yards of the Kaweah River....absolutely...
