Jul 30, 2012 - Tehachapi or Bust!

Tehachapi is this little high desert town where groomsman #2 lives. We spent the day with Allen and his wife, Lori. I'm not sure which one Charles met first. Lori is Andy's (his best friend) sister in-law and he met Allen in a Christian Service men's ministry. We stayed at an RV park that is adjacent to their airport. We were able to watch people hand glide. That was cool!

Oct 10, 2011 - On the Move

This morning was the end of our mini-family reunion in Arroyo Grande. Alyce & Larry traveled with us to Tehachapi where we spent the night at Mountain Valley Airport RV Park. It's located at a glider airport and we saw a glider landing as we arrived. We've stayed here before and have always enjoyed it - even when we woke up to a skiff of snow one April morning. It's a small RV park but very well maintained and a great place to spend a night as you're passing through.

We have made it to Tehatchapi, CA. First real test of RV, many steep grades and long miles. The RV park here is in the mountains and it was pretty cool. The guy at the desk said it snowed the previous week (but melted right away). The park is pretty remote, we saw jack rabbits and prairie dogs all over, but it is a good overnight stop on our route.

Oct 15, 2009 - Paso Robles, CA to Tehachapi, CA

Traveling with Carol, Lou & Beau ..... We had such a good day traveling...only 150 miles to go - we chose a park in Techachapi, by a small airport that operates planes that pull up gliders. After we arrived Lou thought about it for a short while! I would be too scared. Have some neat pictures to include. We saw fields filled on both sides of the road as far as we could see with oil or gas pumping machines - NEVER saw so many in one place - plus it was a HUGE operation! I was so pleased to see all the nuts that were grown between where we...

Girl on the Road

Apr 23, 2009 - Tehachapi, CA - Mountain View RV Park

We had a very windy drive today from the Mojave National Preserve to Tehachapi, CA. It wasn't quite white-knuckle, but almost! The campground here is right next to the runway for glider planes. It gives us a great opportunity to view the flight operations as there have been several take-offs this afternoon. The sites have 50 amp electricity and water and a dumpis provided. Best of all, we are close enough to a major highway to have broadband internet on the aircard service. I went ahead and posted the entry from Mojave earlier and will make...

Jul 7, 2008 - Tehachapi, CA

Well we arrived at the kmart in Tehachapi, we made it up the pass and will have to travel down from here. We traveled 369 miles, almost without any problems. Most of the time the temps were between 95-102 degrees. As we were nearing the exit we wanted we heard 2 thumps that we could not figure out so we exited and found the kmart, pulled in and set the levelers, put out the bedroom slide and decided that we did not need the living room slide for the evening. I went out and shut down the brake syatem for the car and found that the car...

Jan 21, 2008 - Tehachapi, CA - Ralph's 70th Birthday!

Happy Birthday to Ralph!! 70 years young today!! The I-5 corridor in California is not much to get enthusiastic about, it can be lovely in the spring, but in the winter it's just plain boring. The hills are brown, the fruit and nut trees are barren and even the cows seem lethargic. We traversed the area as quickly as possible and skirted around Bakersfield and arrived in Tehachapi around 4:00 PM. There is snow in the hills around us and it is COLD. We hope it won't snow tonight. If all goes well we should make it to Yuma, AZ tomorrow. Made...

Oct 7, 2007 - Tehachapi,CA

Headed south this morning, despite clear skies, no sense tempting fate with the weather. We decided to stay on the back roads as much as possible trying to avoid the I-5 corridor, so we took old highway 49 south from Yosemite. This road follows loosely the path of the "49ers" during the gold rush of California so there are lots of little mining towns tucked into all these wonderful California golden hills. You can see all kinds of old tailing piles and aged equipment still rusting in the fields. Several towns have museums and wayside...
