Mar 15, 2013 - A Change of Scenery

We are not fans of Yuma or the desert, especially when the daytime temps start hitting the mid 90's in March. On Thursday, we endured a record high of 96. The "Yumans" (those RVer's who winter in the Yuma area) were rejoicing, while we were longing for the coolness of the Oregon coast. -- In spite of the heat of the day, however, Nancy, Sherry and I made the trek across the border into Mexico where I scored some good bargains and more tacky jewelry, which I love. This year, I also bought a small collapsible patio table with a bright...

Mar 21, 2011 - NO TRAILER!!

We had a good flight back to San Diego today, got the truck from Park and Fly, and drove over to pick up the trailer. Now I could proceed with a major rant, but what would that accomplish. Tonight I am blogging from a hotel room in Santee California within a few miles of the trailer. The repair place did most of the repair work early last week and then went on to other jobs. They returned to working on our trailer this morning at 11 AM to finish the job and realized they had another problem. Unable to determine what is wrong, we are left...

Mar 4, 2011 - Santee, CA

We arrived at Padre Dam's Santee Lakes Campground in Santee, CA this afternoon. It is actually part of San Diego. The campground is run by the Padre Dam Water Commission. The sites are spacious. We have a brook running in back of us. It was a long ride - about 360 miles, which is long for us. Brad drove most of the way. He turned it over to me to drive about 50 miles between rest areas, however the next two rest areas were closed. The drive from Tempe to where I took over in CA had been pretty flat. No more had I started driving than we hit...

Jan 27, 2010 - Our Campground in Santee

I want to tell you about our campground at Santee Lakes. It is owned and operated by the Padre Dam Municipal Water District. This is the first time I've seen a water district own a campground. We are in a 190 acre park surrounding a chain of seven lakes. There is a day-use area for such things as picnicking, fishing and bicycling. We are in the camping area which is divided into three sections. We are surrounded by hills, with one hill having some houses on it. It is only a 30 minute drive to downtown San Diego, but when we are "back home"...

Jan 23, 2010 - Old Town San Diego Historic Park

Loving history as we do, we went to a state park that is the location of the first settlement of Mexicans and then Americans in San Diego (1821-1872). Mixed in among the historic buildings were lots of private enterprises - stores and restaurants. It made for a lively atmosphere and there were a lot of other people like us that were out enjoying the first sunny day of the week. We joined a small group on a guided tour of Old San Diego. The guide took us to two homes. One was a modest adobe home of the Machado family that showed how a...
