May 20, 2017 - San Francisco - need to add photos

I woke at 4:00am, much earlier than I wanted to especially as we'd had a late night last night....I'm still on New York time. Read until Pete woke and we set out to explore San Francisco. We re-traced our steps to close to where we came in last night and walked down Market Street. It was quite grotty and messy....lots of rubbish around and different kinds of people. I was wondering what sort of a city we'd come to. Our plan was to head to the water and after walking for a while, we caught a tram. A local lady on board gave me some into...

May 19, 2017 - Farewell New York, hello San Francisco

I woke early this morning so made sure I had all the electronics charged up before we set off today. We'd tossed up whether to catch the train to the Bronx this morning before our trip to the airport but decided against it. Instead, we went for a walk along the river towards the Washington Bridge. We haven't really walked around our neighbourhood and it was nice to be out in the cool morning. I had plans of walking to Washington Bridge and part way over it however it's a major artery and with all the freeway roads going in and off, it was...

May 10, 2017 - Touring the CITY on Hop on Hop off bus

Over the course of our travels we have found that using the Hop on/Hop off tour bus to be a pretty good strategy. You get a good over overview of the city plus you can stop and see more if yhou want to... just wait till the next bus comes along. Makes for a long day though. Today we used it a lot.

May 10, 2017 - Last day in San Francisco

The day dawned slightly cloudy but warm. We had a slow start as we were checking out and were being collected by Vikki and Tom. J grabbed some bananas and oat bars for breakfast from the local Safeway and were all ready standing on the "sidewalk" at 11:15 to be collected. The first stop was just up the hill at Lombard Street - the famous windy steep street. We drove down the bends (slowly!) and then stopped to take some pictures. It was so steep you had to be careful exiting the car or else you would be back down on Columbus st in 2 minutes...

May 9, 2017 - Electric Knickers

We managed to get a decent sleep, not rising until about 7:30. It can be a bit noisy - traffic, passing pedestrians, people closing doors in other rooms. But this didn't cause us any problems. As soon as we got up J emailed cousin Vikki and an agreed meet time of around 11:30 was set. J&C decided on a coffee and Anzac biscuit to start the day then they got ready and did a bit of washing. They were tempted to string up a line on the balcony - but C was worried about dust or fumes from the traffic. J was more worried about wind, with images...

May 9, 2017 - Madrid to Sarria Spain

Spent the night in Madrid at a nice hotel. Sheryl and Leo met up with us the next morning and we had a 7:15 a.m. train ride to Sarria. The train was virtually empty and we had very comfortable seats. We arrived in Sarria around noon - found our hotel after a 15 minute walk - rolling our bags. MAC travel provided us with a packet on the trails and hotel reservations. This was Mike's idea. The hotel was on the banks of the river and the Malecon. We had some lunch along the banks. Later that evening my cousin and his wife ( Gary and Beth)...

May 8, 2017 - San Jose to Madrid

Long DAY!!!! I have to say that checking in for this flight in San Jose was a wonderful experience. We checked in 2 hours before the flight and I think we were checked in and through security in 15 minutes. The new airport is really nice with lots of places to have lunch. San Jose to Frankfurt non stop - I usually fall asleep before we even take off. But with over 100 movies to choose from it kept me awake. Finally saw Hidden Figures. That was a 10x better movie than Manchester by the Sea. Watched the Accountant, an Indian film about a...

May 8, 2017 - Liam Neeson serving drinks

At about 10 we got the shuttle bus to the terminal - this was on time and quick so we had plenty of time to check in, and have some brekky before boarding time. We had the usual jumbo seating ( I mean the usual seating on a jumbo!) -2 seats side by side down the back with space on the side for bags ( where I sit!) A predictable flight - plenty of food, a bit of turbulence ( unrelated to the food) and a bit too noisy to watch films. I slept soundly but J&C only napped a bit here and there. A bit of drama when one woman needed oxygen. We saw...

May 7, 2017 - Taking the ferry from Vallejo to San Francisco

We will be in San Francisco area for a week. We decided to make a dry run on the ferry. I did go quite smoothly (about an hour) with no worries about parking. We got off at the Ferry Building and walked up the Embarcadero to Pier 39 which is the main Fisherman's Wharf location.

May 3, 2017 - Gone at last

Weather: Tauranga sunny 18°, San Francisco sunny 31° Steps: 10,569 What a relief it was to finish work and come home to prepare for our flight to Auckland. After a quick lunch, we packed the last-minute things and then Tony arrived to take us to the airport. He treated us to a coffee and then we got the boarding call and we were off. On arrival in Auckland the weather was grey, dull and a little bit chilly. We braved the weather to walk to the international terminal and it drizzled lightly on the way. Boarding was open for our flight, so we...

WOW, six days at San Francisco!!! We are staying at the San Francisco RV Resort located on the Pacific Ocean. We can be in downtown SF in 15 minutes. We have done all the normal tourist things and had a ball. This has been our best stop yet. Went to China Town, rode the cable car, spent a day at Pier 39, spent a day at Sausalito, and toured Union Square and other key areas of the city.
