Dec 27, 2012 - Rose Bowl trip
We finally made it to Los Angeles, CA. We are staying the night at East Shore RV Resort in San Dimas, CA. The traffic was not bad at all coming into the LA area; actually not as bad as Houston traffic. Tomorrow we'll go into Santa Anita Racetrack which is where we will stay for the duration of our time here. It is just about 15 miles from where we are staying tonight. Our next few days will be SO exciting and I can't wait for it to begin.

Jun 8, 2012 - Today
Yesterday after the drive on 10 I guess I was a bit frazzled and didn't mention some of our stops along the way. After Las Cruces, NM we stopped in Tucson at Lazy Days, extremely nice facility good wide spaces friendly people, a bit different from the Tampa facility, however they have no new lines of motor homes, all used or some that were new but a couple of years old. It would be a definite recommendation if you are in the area. Our stop in Quartzsite, AZ was in a very nice RV Park, however we were the only overnights, Quartzsite is the...

Jun 7, 2012 - Long hot desert
We have finally reached cooler weather, the trip through New Mexico and Arizona was hot, dry and dismal; if I ever see another cactus it will be too soon. San Dimas is out of Pasadena/LA, we are in a City Park, very scenic with the mountains in the background. Maddie was thrilled to have grass again after all the rocks and dirt. Our dinner was out under the tree and we actually were a little chilly as the sun went down. The time zone change has us going to bed by 8:00 and up again around 5, since we will be on Pacific time for awhile I'm...

Jun 5, 2012 - East Shore RV Park
Richard, Martin and the guya were friendly and efficient as the repairs were made over a two-day period and we stayed at Alfateers with a 50-amp hookup for two nights. Having been relieved of a few thousand dollars we nevertheless happily headed the few miles down the road to East Shore RV Park next door to Bonelli Park and overlooking Puddingstone Lake in San Dimas, CA. We are now set up in a beautiful site with a great view of the lake. Coincidentally, Scott's friend, Jamie Watkins, who runs a production company, was working with a Disney...

May 29, 2012 - Drive to Los Angeles
It was a short drive (60 miles) to the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in Williams. The park is designed to accomodate overnight stays and large rigs with long black topped pull-thru sites. We got there in plenty of time for dinner at a local restaurant. Jeff needed to be at the hotel lobby to check in for his 3:30 a.m. bus to the train platform for a 3:50 train to Albuquerque. But, when I checked the Amtrak website at 2:30, the train was more than three hours behind schedule. So we all went back to sleep and we dropped Jeff off at the hotel...

Dec 17, 2010 - Torrential rains
From Bakersfield, it's only another five and a half hours to Borrego, but since M. still isn't feeling great, we decided we would stop at East Shore RV Park in San Dimas, about half way. Given we had time to spend, we diddled around, stopping at a Starbies and a Trader Joe's, and not leaving town till noon-ish. Foolish, foolish. We made it through the legendary Grapevine portion of I-5, listening to Jian Ghomeshi & friends on CBC talking about Julian Assuange and related issues, while battling a 25-knot headwind. Nice. We think that's where...

Mar 18, 2010 - San Dimas, California
Wifi again! And we're back in San Dimas, completing a sort of wonky circle. We left Borrego a couple of days ago, heading back to the Salton Sea, through some amazing badlands, back through the town of Mecca at the north end of the Sea, and back over Box Canyon Road through that same beautiful landscape, crossing over I-10 and into Joshua Tree National Park. We drove south to north through the park entering at Cottonwood entrance and ending up at Black Canyon campground in the northeast section of the park. We had intended to spend a few...

Feb 21, 2010 - San Dimas, CA
Upon leaving Acton we drove to San Dimas, Ca. It is further south and east. We stayed at the East Shore County Park. The sites were set up in pods of 3 or 4 sites together. They were all paved and there was a lovely lake near our site that we could look out on. There was also a small airport nearby where we could watch the planes take off and land from the coach. While in San Dimas we drove down to the Nixon Library. There was a lot more to it and it was nicer than we had expected. It seems that the more recent the Presidency the nicer the...

Feb 10, 2010 - Crystal Cathedral
Yesterday afternoon we experienced torrential rains for about 4 hours. We got about 1 1/4 inches of rain. We don't have to worry about mud slides, but the rain was sure noisy on our roof. We rented a movie to watch while the rains came down. Today was a beautiful day - a bit cool but sunny and very clear. My first photo shows you the view this morning of the San Gabriel Mountains which we can see from our campsite. Our sightseeing adventure for the day was a visit to the Crystal Cathedral. I was blown away by its beauty and the grounds and...

Feb 8, 2010 - A Day of Surprises
Some days are full of surprises. Today was one of them. It was sunny with a high of 60 degrees. We were sitting outside this morning overlooking the lake and enjoying our surroundings when I heard Jerry say, "Oh look, there goes a fox. Oh no, it's a coyote." I don't have a picture of it because my camera was inside, but it just sauntered up the nearby hill and over the next campsite away from us. I grabbed Holly's collar to be sure she was safe, we looked for any comrades of the coyote but there were none, and I breathed a sigh of relief as...

Feb 2, 2010 - Camping in the Big City
Last December I spent some time planning our itinerary for the first three months of 2010. It was challenging to think about where to camp in the LA area. My frame of reference is Boston and you can't camp very near Boston in an RV. And so I was thinking about how much larger the LA area is and wondered if we could find a nice place that would not be so far out that we would have to drive all day long to go see something. We feel very fortunate because we found a good place and are very happy campers at the East Shore RV Park in San Dimas...
