Apr 1, 2016 - San Diego

It took three flights to get to San Diego from Nanaimo and for once the flights were all on time. We have been to San Diego several times and were happy to be in the district called “little Italy” and within walking distance to Pier B our embarkation point. For two full days we enjoyed the sunshine and walking round for the most part. There was of course some retail therapy. Both evenings we took advantage of our location and enjoyed two of the many, many Italian restaurants in the area. On April 2nd we joined our 1900 new best friends...

Mar 31, 2016 - Happy Easter

Once again a month has gone by and I don’t know where it went. I know we are on the back side of the “hill” but didn’t know it was going to be such a fast ride! Our time in San Diego is coming to a close but we have had a wonderful time here and loved that we could spend time with Corinne. The first week we were here it rained for several days, but they need rain so badly we didn’t mind. Besides when they say it’s going to rain, they really mean it might mist for a few hours and then the sun will come out. Since then, the weather has been...

Mar 21, 2016 - Leaving San Diego

From Pio Pico RV Park Jamul, CA Where did the 5 weeks go? We have really enjoyed it here. The girls loved the dog beach and will miss it. We didn't do a lot in the park. There were 2 other motorhomes like ours in the park and that has not happened before. On a sad note, there was a man in a small MH next to us that died. He came in when we weren't there but we never saw anyone there. He was 83 and his daughter had been trying to get him to go to assisted living but he wouldn't go. He was a frequent visitor at Pio Pico and the park people...

Mar 18, 2016 - Still loving San Diego

From Pio Pico RV (TT) Jamul, CA We are still having an amazing time here. Wednesday our friends Diana and Rick Watson invited us to their home in Highland which is close to San Bernardino. It was about a 2 hour drive and we got to see a different part of CA. We had a nice visit and got to meet their son and his new wife. Also got to see their 10 month old puppy, Snow. We also have been back to Coranado. I posted a picture of a little library stand. There is a psd and pen that you sign to show what book you borrowed. Such a good idea since...

Mar 15, 2016 - Seaport Village

From Pio Pico RV Park (TT) Jamul, CA We went to Seaport Village yesterday which had been recommended by several people. It is on the harbor and has specialty shops, restaurants and parks. Very beautiful place. We walked around and went through some shops. We wanted to have a good seafood dinner so we found a place on the water. The food was excellent and we were able to watch the boats go by and the sunset. Today we went back to Balboa Park. I wanted to see the train museum which was closed the last time we were there. It'seems the largest...

Mar 13, 2016 - Road Trip

From Pio Pico RV Park (TT) Jamul, CA Another change of plans. We extended our stay here last week and were really not wanting to leave this Tuesday. Bill went to the office and asked them if we could stay another week. They said we could. We have had some clouds and rain but not as much as North of us thank goodness! Our original plan was to drive up the coast to Portland, OR but El Nino is causing a mess up there. They were supposed to get rain with 60 mph winds. Maybe next year! Today was sunny so we took a drive up the coast towards LA....

Mar 9, 2016 - Tide Pools

From Pio Pico RV Park (TT) Jamul, CA We have entered our 4th week here. El Nino paid us a visit Sun and Mon. We had some rain and wind and cooler temps. Tuesday was a beautiful day so we went back to Point Loma Lighthouse. When we were at the visitor's center last week the ranger showed us the tide charts and told us the times of low tide which is the best time to visit the tide pools. The sealfe gets in the crevices of the rocks and you can see them and touch them. We walked down the cliff and out on the rocks. It was really awesome but we...

Mar 2, 2016 - Old Point Loma Lighthouse and Cabrillo Monument

From Pio Pico RV Park (TT) San Diego, CA Just want to say we love San Diego. Our 3 weeks were going to be up on March 8 and Bill talked to the office and they said if we had an Elite membership we could stay for a 4th week for $29 but we would have to go through TT. Surethane enough, I called and they said we could. We have been going to the beach every other day and love being able to do that. My cousin and her husband came down from the LA area Sat. It'seems been about 4 years since I'don't seen her. After getting caught up and watching...

Feb 28, 2016 - San Diego At Last

We left Rovers Roost on Monday as scheduled. But not before we spent two days with our granddaughter, Elly. We drove to Phoenix to Jeff’s place but we left a bit late and hit a lot of heavy traffic. It took us two hours to get there. I just hate the traffic around the Phoenix area! We visited with Elly and Sisqo for a while then Jeff called. Told us he was running just a bit late and wondered if we would mind bringing the kids and meeting him and Nina at the office and then we would go to dinner from there. Sounded good to us so off we went...

Feb 25, 2016 - USS Midway

From Pio Pico RV Park Jamul, CA Another great day. We decided to tour the USS Midway. When we got in, we saw a WWII pilot. He flew a plane like the one he was standing by. He was a real character. Bill asked him if it wastill hard landing with the deck bobbing up and down. He said that wasn'the the scary part. He sat so far back that he couldn'the see the deck and he couldn'the look right or left because of the wings. He just had to guess! After landing he needed a change of pants! We went up to the bridge and on the flight deck. We heard...

Feb 22, 2016 - Balboa Park

From Pio Pico RV Park (TT) Jamul, CA What an amazing place this is. We went to the Visitor's Center and got the audio tour. We had a map and a device that we could put in the stop number and it would give us a description of what we were looking at. It comprises 1,200 Acres and we only saw a small portion but walked 3 miles! It was built for the 1915 California-Pacific Exposition and the 1935 Panama-California International Exposition celebrating the opening of the Panama Canal. The architecture is beautiful. Because it was only built to...
