Oct 8, 2016 - San Diego!

After Lisa and Bob picked us up, we took them out for their 5th anniversary to the Point Lomas Fish Market & Deli where we sat and ate over looking the marina with the skyline of San Diego in the distance. We immediately knew we'd like it here. We hung out for awhile catching up on things and then headed to their condo to unload and relax a little. Early evening we took a walk to check out Mission Trails Golf Course where we planned to golf sometime this week. It is just a short walk from their condo. We then went back and had a drink on...

Sep 28, 2016 - Cabrillo and a visit with a friend

Today we headed into San Diego, it is approximately 36 miles from the campsite and since it is San Diego, lots of traffic. Our first stop was the Cabrillo National Monument. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo still remains as mysterious today as the waters he explored. Though much is unknown it is certain that he was the first European to explore the west coast of the United States. In June of 1542 Cabrillo set sail from Navidad, Mexico with three ships to “discover the coast of New Spain.” He was looking for the passage that connected the Atlantic...

Jun 6, 2016 - USS Midway

If you are in the San Diego area, a place to see is the USS Midway. The USS Midway was named for the Battle of Midway, which is actually was not involved in. The aircraft carrier was commissioned in 1945 and decommissioned in 1992. The tour is a self-guided audio tour that takes the guest to virtually all parts of the carrier. We saw the engine room, officers' quarters, medical offices, the mess, the laundry, etc. There was also a good display of airplanes and other aircraft throughout the craft. In the park next to the Midway, stands a...

May 8, 2016 - Poodle Spa day

Well today was Mother's Day and I know one poodle who has the best momma any poodle could ever hope to have. Kira had a spa day today, she had her first RV shower this morning - she always hated climbing into the bathtub in our former home - this was much easy for her to walk into the shower. After putting a towel on the floor of the shower to keep her from sliding we got down to business - new conditioning shampoo - taking care to keep it out of the eyes. A wash cloth for sensitive areas and a nice massaging rinse and bath time was...

May 5, 2016 - San Diego safari park

We celebrated Cinco De Mayo by going to the San Diego Wild Animal Safari Park. It is actually in Escondido about 45 minutes from our base here in Mission Bay. One of our neighbors told us about it and we had to check it out - especially when we found out about the zip line! As anybody that knows us knows - we love doing zip lines. We did one in Peurto Vallarta where we also got to rappel through a waterfall, we also did one in Ketchikan Alaska where one of the landing platforms had a big Alaskan Briwn Bear at the bottom. This one was by far...

May 2, 2016 - The Pacific Ocean is cold in May just FYI

No pictures of this one - today Susan and I decided to rent a jet ski and cruise Mission Bay. As most of you know we have a bit of experience with jet skis so we figured we would have no trouble. I'm here to tell you that the Pacific Ocean - including Mission Bay is COLD!!!! When the wind kicks up - from the speed of the jet ski and the spray hits you it is like winter in Tucson! Suffice it to say we both got drenched! We decided to get out of the high speed area and check out the view of the RV park from the water - big mistake. We were...

Apr 30, 2016 - Hawaiian festival in Mission Bay Park

Woke up this morning to the sound of raindrops - but it did not last long. Soon after the rain stopped we heard the sounds of Hawaiian drumming and singing. We had not heard that sound since coming back from Honolulu in June of 2014 - so obviously we had to check it out. Turns out that the local Hawaiian cultural society was having their annual festival in Mission Bay Park. Lots of people having roast pork and other tasty treats, t-shirts and Hawaiian shirts and dresses, skirts and such. We found hula dancers from 4 years old to about 80...

Apr 26, 2016 - Carrillo National Monument / Point Loma Lighthouse

Today we spent the afternoon at Point Loma in the Cabrillo National Monument. We walked down to the cliffs edge to get a close-up look at the tidal pools and got a little bit of a shower from the Ocean spray. It is amazing the amount of power the waves have when they crash on those rocks. The view of the San Diego Bay area and coastline and of downtown are incredible from the national monument entry point. We love exploring historical sites in this one was not a disappointment. Being able to walk into and explore the inside of the...

Apr 25, 2016 - Tim's thoughts for the day

As most of you that know us know, we always loved the view from our backyard looking toward the Catalina mountains. We even had a saying that when the mountain turned pink - it was time to drink. Well guess there are no mountains here at the beach - so , when the sun sinks... We were over on the PB boardwalk the other day getting t-shirts when I saw this sign. I had to have it since I love the message - it now hangs on our little pet fence that we ihave around our tenement on wheels. It gives the girls a way to be outside without being on...

Apr 15, 2016 - Walmart LOVERS

It is well known that we both love Walmart.... Since Tim's retirement we have had many more visits to our Tucson, Oro Valley, Marana Walmarts. We have been known to visit 3 different Walmarts in one day. We have had Wine Tasting at our Oro Valley Walmart. ( even Walmart has its standards, they cut you off after one taste of each). Then we have been to Walmart down by south Tucson , were I grab Tims arm and try not to step in all the spills ( or something) on the floors! When we go to a new area, we have to check out the Walmarts. We have...

Apr 14, 2016 - Thursday 14th April

San Diego Today we spent the day with my cousin and her husband, who live just east of Los Angeles, about 90 mins drive from San Diego. What can I say – we talked all day ! Didn’t see much of San Diego – it was unlucky that today we had to be back on board at 4pm, unlike most other stops where we have had time ashore through to 11pm or later, so there was no time to “go sightseeing”, but if we had, we would still have been talking. And taking photos. Having rushed to get back on board on time, we then sat in the harbour for over an hour...

Apr 13, 2016 - Pacific Beach

Had a wonderful day at a pacific Beach today. Found a fabulous place to get street tacos! We have found an area to walk on the boardwalk, Belmont Park to Crystal Pier that is around 3 miles. So we walk to the Baja Beach Cafe, eat our tacos then walk the 3 miles back. All the way is full of shops, ect. I have found the walk there is much faster than the return stroll!
