Feb 8, 2017 - At Sea and And Disembarking at San Diego

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Feb. 7 & 8 & 9 2017. At Sea and And Disembarking at San Diego The trip from Mexico back to the USA took two days on the open ocean about 30 miles west of the nearest land. So, what do you do when at sea - on a cruise ship? Eat of course. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner with snacks thrown in for good measure! And there is entertainment. The Quest Singers and Dancers put on an intriguing show that had been written especially for Azamara Club Cruises called “Voices.” The music that normally is provided by the...

Jan 1, 2017 - Balboa Park a second look

On New Years Day we returned to Balboa Park to actually visit some of the exhibits. We bought the explorer pass which entitled us to go into 5 museums (we only made it into 3 --guess we should have gotten an earlier start, lol): Air Space, Museum of Man and the Science Center. Also, we listened to a recital on the world's largest outdoor organ (pretty loud but not the best fidelity)

Dec 29, 2016 - California Dreaming

Well here we are again away from home. We weren't going to do a blog but it seemed like a good way to say Happy New Year Everyone. We left a snowy Nanaimo on Dec 15th to head south looking for sunshine. We just missed an ice storm in Oregon and got through safely. We stopped in Sonoma, wine country, and Santa Barbara for 2 days each on the way down. After 2500km we arrived weary but well into San Diego on the 22nd. We are in San Diego until January 1st then we head up to Palm Springs for the 10 day film festival before heading home at the...

Dec 27, 2016 - The Holiday Bowl

slept in after a long day of travelling. Then headed to Quallcomm stadium to watch the Holiday Bowl featuring my Minnesota Golden Gophers versus the Cougars from Washington State University. Kind of a snooze during the first half, but things looked up in the 2nd as the UM won 17-12.

Dec 18, 2016 - Merry Christmas

Christmas is a week away and the new year is just two weeks away. That means I need to start practicing writing 2017 instead of 2016. I know we are all saying, where did the year go. It was a year of changes for a lot of us. For us it meant retirement, celebrating 50 years of marriage, leaving early for our RV odyssey, Boise in the summer (it’s HOT), Washington and Oregon in the Fall (it’s RAINY), plus enjoying familiar places and faces. We have stayed fairly healthy but are feeling the impact of getting older - bad knees, bad eyes, achy...

Nov 11, 2016 - San Diego, CA Nov 6-10, 2016

We arrived in San Diego on Sunday. Our home was Admiral Baker Golf Club and RV Resort. It is a US Navy recreation site and near a trolley stop. On Monday we hooked up with our old friend Pastor Kate. We were able to go over to her house and meet her new dog, Koi. She lives in La Mesa – which was close – and in a mixed use neighborhood – so she can live locally. We went to breakfast with her (walked to a local favorite) and then she took us on a trip to her church. Then it was off to Point Loma to see the view of San Diego from there. At the...

Oct 15, 2016 - Balboa Park

Our plan today was to drive to Coronado Island and visit the historic Coronado Hotel. However, after watching news about the high surf warnings out, we decided to pass on that. Instead, we changed our plans to visit beautiful Balboa Park. It is a beautiful park with many botanical gardens. Many things we skipped due to the extra fees. We all enjoyed it. For supper, Bob and Lisa ordered great Iraqi food that we enjoyed while watching the Badgers lose to Ohio State...which we didn't enjoy. So sad to see our week in SD come to an end.

Oct 14, 2016 - Old Town San Diego

After our time at Cabrillo National Monument, we headed to Old Town San Diego. We had lunch at Oh Hungry...good burger for me, Ann's lunch was so-so. We were there a short time and just took a walk around the Old Town Historic Park area. After Lisa got home from work we went out for pizza and beer in El Cajon.

Oct 14, 2016 - Cabrillo National Monument

Once again Lisa had to work today so Bob was kind enough to be our tour guide. After a relaxing morning of breakfast and coffee we left around 11:00 am for our first stop at the Cabrillo National Monument and the Point Lomas Lighthouse. A beautiful area that over looks the San Diego skyline. We joined up with a small group for a guided tour by a ranger from the US Park Service. The lighthouse is no longer in operation but has been restored as a museum. While there, we were lucky enough to see the USS Nimitz air craft carrier sail through...

Oct 13, 2016 - R&R

Day of R & R Lisa and Bob worked today. We finally got moving around 9:00am. After coffee and a little breakfast we watched a little news and did a little reading. 11:00am headed down to pool and stayed there until 4:30....no one there but us all day. Pool and hot tube all to ourselves. For supper, Bob grilled bacon wrapped asparagus, grilled in foil potatoes-carrots-cauliflower-onion, and grilled pork chops....all made a great supper. Now THIS was "the Art of doing nothing!"

Oct 12, 2016 - Golf Day

Not many photos today as Bob & Lisa both worked. Today we had plans to golf Mission Trails Golf Course which was only 3 blocks from the condo. Bob dropped us off at 7:30am for our 8:22am tee time. We were able to tee off earlier being hooked up with another twosome. We enjoyed golfing with York & Alex. York is 77 and Alex is 86. 86!!! They golf 18 holes twice a week and have been friends for 20 yrs. And they really golf well for their age. They were good company and had a nice time with them. Perhaps the good San Diego weather has kept them...

Oct 10, 2016 - Torrey Pines State Nature Preserve

After La Jolla Cove, we headed the short drive north to Torrey Pines State Nature Preserve. Beautiful area. We spent about an 1 1/2hrs walking paths around the park. Our last path took us past the rare Torrey Pine. Well worth our trip and time. The plan was to head back to the condo by 3:00pm as the traffic in San Diego is heaviest between 3:00 and 7:00. Left the park around 3:00 and still ran into some heavy traffic. We arrived and Lisa had started dinner of Chicken Curry which we enjoyed after a cocktail first. It was a great day.
