Jun 17, 2012 - To Redding

I always look forward to travel days because we never know what the scenery is going to be. I have my camera batteries charged up and Larry cleans the windshield (but we always get bugs anyway). We left the Tahoe National Forest of Nevada City, saying goodbye to the Ponderosa Pines and left the foothills behind. As we traveled westbound on Hwy 20 through flatlands of agriculture and wandering creeks, I looked down at my GPS and saw this strange "cluster" just west of Hwy 99. I wasn't sure what it was because we did not have sight of it yet...

Jun 17, 2012 - Sunday 17th June

I can’t believe it – I slept right through the night till 8.02am!! Hamish was kind and let me sleep, so by the time we got showered and dressed, it was a quick breakfast and then on the road by 9.30am. The sky was very grey, and it was very very muggy. As we headed south on the I-5, we had a bit of rain on and off. The scenery was lovely, lots and lots of trees, mainly dark green conifers but some deciduous with their new green leaves too. At one point we saw a deer bounding around on the side of the road. Luckily he headed back into the...

May 27, 2012 - Sundial Bridge

A trip to Redding would not be complete without visiting the Sundial Bridge. The Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay crosses the Sacramento River in the heart of Redding, California. Opened July 4, 2004, the bridge links the north and south campuses of Turtle Bay Exploration Park and serves as a new downtown entrance for Redding’s extensive Sacramento River Trail system. The bridge is translucent and is suppose to have non-skid decking. I found it to be a bit slippery, I was wearing sandals. I saw a poor dog who evidently thought the same as me,...

May 26, 2012 - Redding, CA

We drove about 260 miles today. We saw a lot of olive trees on the way. We even saw olive tasting signs. That is a first for us, we have seen many wine tasting signs in the area, but never olive tasting. :-) We couldn't stop and taste in the RV, but would love to go back in the car and do so. We will be in Redding for a couple of days exploring the Shasta Lake area and more. We got a great site on the end, perfect for watching the birds with my binoculars. I have my hummingbird feeder set up and already have two hummingbirds fighting over...

May 23, 2012 - Solar Eclipse & Out Taking in the Sights

I'm a little behind on my entries, so I'll get caught up. Over the course of a couple of days, Pete & I along with Toni, jumped in the truck & took in a few sights. I'm including photos of the solar eclipse that I took with our Cannon camera pointing the lens through solar glasses.

May 18, 2012 - Redding, Ca.

I'm a little behind on my entries, I've had computer issues. It seems that I ended up with Microsoft Update problems (I have spend a few days on the phone with them.) They believe corrupted files caused my issues. Who knows, but on Monday we will be shipping my computer off to my son Robert to wipe it & start over, its the only way to fix it. YES I have a security program on my computer, but I guess sometimes things can get by the best of them. So I am taking control of Pete's computer...LOL ! Thank goodness we both have our own. Anyways...

May 11, 2012 - Redding, CA Friday

Sorry for the delay - we are having a dickens of a time getting the WIFI to work at this campground. It keeps disconnecting, which is really frustrating when I’m in the middle of uploading photos and have to keep starting over. I’m going to look at using Verizon for WIFI access for next year’s trip. Among the critters we’ve seen in this campground, there are two baby snakes that were run over by cars. One of them is a rattlesnake, so I’m wondering…if this is a baby, where is the mother? We are keeping the dogs out of the rocky areas and...

May 8, 2012 - Redding, CA

We’ve moved about 200 miles north to Redding for a few days, on our way into Oregon this weekend. Along the way, we passed several olive and pistachio groves. The temps here were in the 90’s today (too hot for moi), so we’re hiding inside the rig, waiting for the sun to set, planning our day tomorrow. There are many side trips we can take from here. We just need to choose from waterfalls, volcanoes, lakes, etc. Stay tuned!

Mar 28, 2012 - Sunshine and $4.05 gas

Short drive today as we didn't want to camp at 4000ft in the cold. Will do the Siskyou and Grants Pass tomorrow. Stopped in Corning and did the olive testing again and left with a few sample needless to say. Re figuring the centre of gravity chart again. Real nice tailwind all day but sadly as we neared Redding the mountains are now on both sides and in front of us so will be climbing or most of tomorrow as we enter Oregon. Set up in nice park here with a clear view of Mt Shasta for the nite. Gas prices continue to drop the further north we...

Dec 13, 2011 - A Month in Redding with Doctors and Reducing Storage

On our trip from Harrisburg to Redding we stopped in Montague to visit with the Smiths. We found their home and setup on the road in front of their house for the night. It was a gravel road that had very little traffic. We enjoyed dinner and a visit with Linda and Junior, their daughters and families. In the morning they made breakfast and then took us to their Shastina house, to see it on our way back to I-5 and or travel to Redding. Judie got to visit with Linda’s Llama, as well as the Southdown sheep the family still owns. In Redding we...

Dec 8, 2011 - Redding CA

We forgot how crooked that road was going thru the Siskiyou Mountains. Our truck handled those grades better than expected and after we got over the hump something fantastic happened . The sun came out and produced the heat we have been seeking ! We arrived in Redding at 3pm and the temperature was 18.5 degrees . When we left Canyonville this morning it was 4 degrees . Another fantastic campground we found was the JGW Park on the Sacramento river in Redding definitly worth a stop .
