Nov 15, 2012 - Pomona and San Diego
We set out at 9:30 for Pomona. It was a nice warm day. We stopped for lunch at a truck stop in Barstow. Part way down the road the GPS said there were some traffic irregularities ahead. We saw a big bank of what we initially thought was fog. Then the traffic came to a standstill. We crawled along for about 2 miles then came to a complete stop. The smoke was quite heavy and billowing to start with but you could tell they were getting a handle on it. Four hours later, about 5:00 we started to move. We were only about 40 miles from our...

Dec 2, 2010 - Los Angeles here we are
From Banning, CA to LA it rained so hard the traffic on the ten freeway came to a stop, a little scary but livable. We had a great Thanksgiving with Erin, Amy and Harper. After we chowed down on some great food everyone pitched in to put up the Christmas tree and I must say it looks marvelous. We have a 2ft aluminum tree with mini ornaments and a little tiny angel on top, very nice. We spent some nice time with Phyllis and Bill my sis and her hubby. The nights have been a little cool but very nice in the day with sun and warm temps. We head...

Aug 8, 2010 - Yermo, CA - Pomona, Ca
A little behind in the writings but we don't always have internet. Anyway, we left Pomona camp heading for the hills, Beverly that is. We stopped in a little town (can't remember the name of it now!) but it was where McDonalds started. There was a museum where the original store was. It was neat to see the original menu - peanut butter and jelly sandwhich with fried, .25. A burger, fries and coffee in a real mug - .35. Then of course all the gimics - the toys given in the happy meals, the boxed toys sold at the stores for Christmas and the...

Jul 15, 2010 - Discovering Your Own Backyard
Greetings from sunny and HOT California....as you know, we are hanging around Southern California due to my mom's (Marilyn Tucker) injury. She is doing so much better but still needs some assistance with daily tasks. Her recovery is going remarkably well and she seems to do more and more for herself each day. Since our last entry we celebrated our country's birthday, had Kaia for the weekend, experienced the All-Star game FanFest and enjoyed an evening in a local park listening to music with friends. On the Fourth of July we visited my...

Jun 13, 2010 - The Grand Tour
Well, today Ashley and I took the grand tour of LA. After a day of driving hell bent for leather for five miles and then crawling for another ten miles, it was nice to let a local do the driving. The tour picked us up at the campground and we were with 9 other folks in a large van that allowed us to go to places the big buses cannot go. We had a real international group, 4 from Malaysia, 3 from France, 2 from Australia and 3 from the US. The van picked us up at 9:30 morning and we did not get back to the rig until 6pm. Normally, we would...

Jun 12, 2010 - In Pomona and LA
Not having enough of the bumper to bumper traffic yesterday, we decided to venture down to Santa Monica to see the pier and beach. It is very easy to find, just follow I-10 west until you are forced onto a two lane road with the beach on the left and the cliffs on the right. No kidding, this is how the directions were given to me and they were right! After going almost all the way to Malibu looking for the pier, we turned around in a private club parking area. You should have seen them look when a big dually pulled in, we got turned around...

Jun 11, 2010 - In the Land of Milk and Honey
After a short run yesterday from Blythe, we have arrived in the "land of milk and honey." We came in a day early since Phoenix was to hot and Susan was ready to riot. It is cool here as a low pressure system moved through the area. In fact, the highest temp today was 75 degrees. We are holed up in a very pretty campground at the Pomona Fairplex about 30 miles east of Long Beach. I cannot believe the flowers around here, they have the prettiest dog run I have ever seen! The sites are rather close together but you have to accept that in an...

Feb 11, 2010 - Moving House
Today we helped our Canadian friend Ross move house. Ross had owned fifth wheel with his wife Bernie who unfortunately died last year. He had now bought himself a Bounder gas motorhome as it would be easier for him to travel on his own. We spent the day moving things from his old abode(Fifth Wheel) to his new abode(Motorhome). By six o'clock we were all worn out and adjourned to a local restaurant for sustenance. We hate to think what it will be like when we come to change coaches!

Feb 11, 2010 - 50th Anniversary Winternationals
We've just spent four days at the 50th anniversary of the Winternationals Drag Racing at Pomona, California. It is one reason we are here, in Temecula. In conjunction with the actual racing, there were 30 of the people who were involved in the early days of drag racing. And there were many people who brought their restored vehicles to put on display. Some of the cars were started up and paraded in front of the grandstands in an event called a "cacklefest". It's difficult to describe just how loud the cars are when running on nitromethane...

Nov 5, 2009 - day 50, 36th on rt66
our day 50 on the road and 36th on rt66... these last 100miles of rt66 are the mosr difficult thru LA - many things to see and photo... the area is very smog unfriendly, areas where some would feel unsafe... roadsways are not well named, street signs are missing, streets are very narrow, and when people look at you, you get the feeling they're saying "hay, get out of my hood!"... and to top that, we are getting lost from the lost/stolen/missing signs, have to retrack our trip to be on the route to see the things we want to see, plus, having...
