Mar 27, 2013 - Morrow Bay

Visited Morrow Bay and Elfin Forest. These areas are along the coast and had some really nice hiking and walking locations. While walking on the boardwalk of the Elfin Forest (kind of sounds like it is from the Lord of the Rings movie), I chatted with a man about how it came to be. He said that the property was owned by a couple for many years (there are many acres of open land along the ocean). The husband died and the wife didn't like what her children wanted to do with the land (build condos). She ended up donating it as a bird preserve...

Mar 21, 2013 - Pismo Beach

Today we headed off to Pismo Beach. The place I chose was the north state beach which is only dry camping. The campground is on the edge of a beautiful beach with nice board walks down to the pier. The beach and town surprisingly is dog friendly - so long as they are on a leash. Buddy and I enjoyed a very long board walk and then a walk back along the beach. We stopped and chatted with numerous nice people. One thing I didn't count on… spring break. A huge number of families and college kids roaming the area. Visit My Pismo Beach Area...

Oct 11, 2012 - pismo coast village

on way to pismo beach stopped at Hearst castle. to much info to convey, so just look at pic's and be amazed. refer to map (first pic) buildings are numbered, interior pic's are main building (9). The pic down hill is all the driveway up the hill. the straight road, is actually his own personal runway built to land personal dc-3. Note he never actally lived here, it was just a getaway for friends- mustly big names, and movie stars. At app. 250,000 acers, he refered to it as his "little" ranch (he had bigger). The main house is 69,000 sq ft,...

Sep 4, 2012 - 'Shirley' day

Still waiting for the generator parts so I started the day with a walk along the beach and pier. After that we did a whole lot of nothing. I did change the sheets on the bed and do laundry. After supper, Bob went for a walk with me - we strolled along the pier and around the town. Sunset at the pier was lovley as are most sunsets. Nice relaxing day - good for Bob.

Sep 2, 2012 - Morro Bay

We car traveled more north along the coast to sightsee - to Morro Bay and Cayucos. Of course it was very foggy until afternoon but that seems to be the norm here. It was a nice, relaxing ride - great Pacific Ocean views. We never see many people in the water unless they are wearing wetsuits - rumor has it the water is ALWAYS very cold. We went out to dinner to a restaurant on the waterfront with the Fritzes and the Wertzes who were also out exploring the coastal scenery. another great touristy day. We have a very nice Portuguese family...

Sep 1, 2012 - 'Traveling day' - moving day

We did travel today to move to a new location but we only has to go 45 miles - easy easy day. The new campground is at the beach - very touristy. The sites are snug but I don't care - we can walk to the beach and the place is really hopping for the holiday weekend. Fortunately, the campground manager helped get Bob backed in because that was just a fight waiting to happen for us - LOL. We went out driving through the neighborhoods and along the coast at Pismo Beach and Avila Beach. I feel like I finally found the California I was expecting...

Jul 9, 2012 - Pismo Beach, CA

On the way to Pismo Beach we knew that we needed to fuel up and had been looking for a low diesel price, which is not an easy thing to do in California. Jay found a place in Lompac that was $3.69 a gallon, which was a very low price for here, however, Lompac was a little out of the way. So we decided to pay a little more and stop in Santa Maria, which was on our route. Well, just as we were leaving Solvang, we saw a better price than in Santa Maria and somehow Jay managed to get our large RV in and OUT of this local gas station. Since we...

Apr 30, 2012 - Pismo Monday

The fog rolled back in yesterday, and has lingered all day today. The temps were in the upper 50’s today (too cold for the beach), and they are going to stay that way for a few more days, so we drove about 25 miles north to Morro Bay to see the wharf and the shops. Bill walked the dogs while I shopped (this excursion was his idea - what a guy, huh?!). I bought a pair of turquoise-colored glass seahorse earrings, and also fell in love with a blue glass vase that I will ponder about buying when we get home. The shop owner told me that it...

Apr 29, 2012 - Pismo Beach #2

I forgot to mention that Pismo Beach is where millions of Monarch butterflies migrate to from as far away as Canada every November through February. There is a park filled with eucalyptus bushes on Highway 1 very near our campground that they come to every fall.

Apr 29, 2012 - Pismo Beach, CA

We had a wild day yesterday. The drive through L.A. (even though it was Saturday morning) was horrendous. It took us an hour and a half to get out of L.A. County. Even with umpteen lanes, traffic was bumper to bumper. We did get to see the famous Hollywood sign on the side of the hill, and a flat bed truck passed us in Hollywood with some kind of European custom car on it. This car was blinding us, as the body of it was either 100% chrome or stainless steel. Neither of us has ever seen anything like it before. I do have to mention the crazy...

Apr 11, 2012 - Pismo Beach State Beach

Awoke to no rain. Once Pepper and I got out of the dense redwoods on our walk we actually saw blue sky! Was lovely with swift running streams into the Big Sur River. Had a 9:00 work appointment so went back to the “office” aka The Ripplewood Café. Such a good menu and portions that we had promised ourselves breakfast there. Bob had scrambled eggs, about 5 slices of bacon and two of the biggest English muffins I have ever seen. Me, the “no carb” lady, had the hand cut oatmeal and brown sugar. Was a nice treat. Headed down the coast and had...

We had a great time in Pismo Beach. Very nice RV Park, with Swimming Pool , right on the beach! Thanks Brad and Jacquie for a very nice dinner at your house on the first night. Second day, we explored Pismo on our bikes. Ended the day with a BBQ and campfire at our RV sites, again with Brad and Jacquie. We had great weather and lots of fun in Pismo.
