May 21st to June 7th We left Visalia this Sunday Morning the 21st and arrived at the Park of the Sierras in the afternoon at 1pm, you ask why is this important well the park is a gated community and the office closes at noon, we got in as someone leaving allowed us to enter now supposedly Barb was informed of all this but anyway we are here and settled in for 2+ weeks about 25 miles away from the south gate of Yosemite NP. Monday the 21st we went into the park and drove to Yosemite Valley witch is another 35 miles once inside the...

Oct 6, 2017 - Car and RV Service, Visit to Local Creamery and Lagunitas Brewing Company

October 6 – Car and RV Service, Visit to Local Creamery and Lagunitas Brewing Company This clear and cool morning, I added air to the car tires and cleaned the A/C/heater air filter, added DEF and engine oil to the Sprinter and glued my KEEN sandals soles. For lunch, we visited the Petaluma Creamery where all of the dairy milk was taken during the dairy milk boom some decades ago. For fun, we joined a rowdy group of folks to imbibe the products of the local Lagunitas Brewing Company. As the 5 samples of beer were enjoyed, the crowd became...

Oct 5, 2017 - Visit to Cheese Making Farms and Viewing a Cow Giving Birth

October 5 – Visit to Cheese Making Farms and Viewing a Cow Giving Birth In the morning, we left the KOA compound to visit a Pfaff sewing machine store to see their new Husqarvarna Epic-like sewing machine. Husqarvarna bought Pfaff and they are doing a NH/CIH differentiation-like offering with different colors and stitches. Our in-house seamstress needed to see new model but none were available but she talked sewingese with the store owners. Later, we visited a cheese making dairy farm owned by a Portuguese-born farmer. I greeted him with my...

Oct 4, 2017 - Thorough Tour of San Francisco

October 4 – Thorough Tour of San Francisco Our group of 8 were driven to San Francisco in a small bus by a very knowledgeable guide/driver, John, who had lived in San Francisco as a youth. His stories of growing up in Haight/Asbury were very interesting and gave life to the city stories. We visited parts west, north, east and south of SF and were shown places that only a native would know and tell stories about. One of the stories was about the building of the Liberty Ships for the WWII in San Francisco. The owner of the company pushed his...

October 3 – Travel from Philo to Petaluma, CA Our travel was uneventful from Anderson Valley wine country to Petaluma, 40 miles north of San Francisco. Aug 25, 2016 - Petaluma CA

Monday’s drive from Verdi up over the mountains and past Lake Tahoe, then around Sacramento was uneventful and took us from a high of over 7,000 feet to our present elevation of 108’ - according to the GPS – in Petaluma about an hour north of San Francisco. Tuesday was a busy day. Friends that we met in Michigan when we bought this coach back in 2013, and that we tracked down in Saco, Maine last fall, are working at this KOA. And since they made the mistake of telling us that, we tracked them down again. We had breakfast with them then hit...

May 1, 2016 - Petaluma, CA

We landed at the Petaluma KOA while the house was in escrow and plan to stay here awhile. While in Petaluma waiting for the house to close escrow, we took a bus tour of SF. Having lived most of our lives in SF, it was surprising to see some areas on the tour that we hadn't been to while living our lives there. Some highlights of the tour: of course the Golden Gate Bridge, the view from the observation deck of the De Young Museum, lunch at Scomas at Fisherman's wharf, the Height-Ashbury area, Pacific Heights with all its views, & finally the...

Apr 20, 2016 - Silicon Valley

One of the reasons our Aussie friend Al gravitated toward our podcast is Ken’s frequent advice, comments and rants about various technology issues, RV related and otherwise. For him this made a stop here in the Silicon Valley a special treat. So, where other tourists might have spent their time on the beautiful beaches, we have made a pilgrimage from one tech mecca to another. We started at 1 Infinite Loop, an address well known to lovers of the Mac. There is a special store on the campus that sells items not generally available in other...

Sep 9, 2015 - San Francisco, California

When we were driving to Napa we heard our RV brakes making a noise. I researched online where we might be able to get them repaired near our next stop. Of course being a holiday weekend, there was no place open. I was able to email a place in Petaluma and ask for their help. On Tuesday when they opened, they called and said they would work us in. We had to stay in the RV over night at the repair shop but they completed the job the next day. What a blessing that we found a place only 4 miles form the campground who would do the job the day...

Jun 26, 2015 - Heat rising to Petaluma

We rose early and got on the road in anticipation of the drive taking longer than the distance would indicate. As anticipated the first part was slow as we negotiated the bends on the way north on California State Highway 1. Only a delusional engineer could call this a highway. We joined highway 128 and it wound its way through redwood forests for the first 15 miles. It then improved somewhat, but only sporadic patches had shoulders. The change in temperature was quite remarkable. It was 17 when we left the coast and we did not climb very...

May 16, 2015 - Petaluma Street Fair & Carshow

Another beautiful day in Petaluma. Slept in until 8:30, had leisurely breakfast, sat and read until after lunch, then headed to Old Town Petaluma. An updated area of the city with, of course, upscale restaurants, antique shops, etc. There was a car show, street fair and Farmers Market today. We drove into the town, were lucky enough to find parking and walked through the car show. It was HUGE! It would have taken us all day to see it all. Cars of every type. Restored, modified, souped-up, customized, etc. We took a few pictures of some ars...
