Jan 11, 2014 - Butterflies, Oranges, Grafefruit and Sunshine

As I sat outside in our 77 degree weather this afternoon I noticed a butterfly fluttering about in a grapefruit tree in front of our RV. I said to myself that it just can't get any better than this. There are many citrus trees and of course the Date palm trees that I showed you in my last entry. The park allows you to pick the oranges and grapefruit but only what you are able to eat that day. I only wish that the sites had more room to them. It's just too close to the guy next to you. Even with that said it's still a nice park but I doubt...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Jan 8, 2014 - Thousand Trails-Palm Springs

I didn't cry when we left Borrego Springs on Monday but I wanted too, I just love that place. It was a short 75 mile trip up to the Thousand Trails park in Palm Desert (or Palm Springs as it's called by TT ). - We usually get an early start but we had to wait around for a UPS package to arrive. It was being sent to the Admin office and sometimes UPS doesn't deliver there until 4 PM. If we had to wait till 4PM we would be trying to park our RV in the dark in the very tight RV spaces here between all the Palm Trees. - Judy and I figured we...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Mar 4, 2013 - all downhill

Today we took a twenty mile bike ride - all downhill. We started at about 1,000 feet elevation and ended 150 feet below sea level. It was part of a tour. Now that we know the route, we could do it ourselves, but it would mean we would have to ride those twenty miles back uphill to our car. That's not going to happen! There were only three of us with a guide who drove the sag wagon behind us and stopped every so often to tell us about the changing environment and answer our questions. She pointed out evidence that the San Andreas fault was...

Jan 29, 2013 - Getting close to our destanation

We spent the night in Desert Palms, watching news that night Dallas said that guy looks familiar, like the guy from Roanoke who moved to Ca, It was Patrick Evans who was on Q99 with Dick Daniels. Small world. It was so nice to get to the green area, on up the road we came into the Ag country, miles and miles of farming. It wasn't too smoggy when we going up but coming back it was so bad you couldn't see the mountains, the air was thick gray brown. I told Dallas this is on all our food that comes from this area, can't imagine anyone wanting...

Jan 8, 2013 - Palm Springs

We moved to Palm Desert Thousand Trails, and met our friends from Wilderness Lakes. Met the rest of the Snowbird group, and had a fantastic time! Out to dinners at great places like Jackalope Pete's, and breakfast at Two Springs RV Park. The Lewis and Clark Thousand Trails group is really fun. Started playing Pickleball. Cal's knee is hurting him, but we bought equipment, and managed a few games....

Mar 5, 2012 - Another Lake O'Hara Anniversary

First weekend in March always means it is time for our trip to Lake O'Hara for a little skiing, a lot of fun with friends and a celebration of our wedding anniversary (#19)! It was a snowy weekend this year so we didn't get the spectacular views that Lake O'Hara is known for but the skiing was great, as was the company. Joining us was our usual crowd: Barb and Kevin, Bob and Bonnie and Sharon and Tony. Barb and Paul have also become regulars on this weekend and we were joined this year by Heather from Canmore, Anne from Australia and Jeanne...

Feb 28, 2012 - An Anniversary and a return to Joshua Tree

Evelyn, Lorne, Lorie and Terry arrived just in time for a bit of a heat wave. Temps were in the high 80's (F) for most of the week which was great for those of us swimming and cycling but not the best for long hikes in the desert. We had a great visit, ate some wonderful meals, went to a jazz concert under the stars, golfed a bit and even made it back to Joshua Tree National Park for some hiking and photography. We celebrated Evelyn and Lorne's 40th wedding anniversary with a nice dinner out, a little bubbly and lots of reminiscing. It was...

Feb 24, 2012 - Palm Desert Day 2

Feb 24 Mary fixed waffles for breakfast and then Mike and Al were off to Home Depot and Mary and I were off to PetSmart and Wal-Mart. I needed to get food for the next week, as well as food for RG. We got back home, packed a picnic and headed off to the Whitewater Preserve. This is an important wildlife corridor between the San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains. It consists of nearly 3000 acres that has been set aside and provides a habitat for two endangered species of birds. The Canyon the river flows through also has a good population...

Feb 23, 2012 - Palm Desert

Feb 23 The kids left this morning to head for home. They will make a stop at Kathy’s aunt, then Pismo Beach. Tomorrow they will head up to Carmel and finally on Saturday we home. We are heading over to Palm Desert to see Al and Mary Eiffert. We will just park the rig at their house with only the house side slides out. We will be spending most of the time in their house anyway and just sleeping in the rig. It is just 17 miles from La Quinta so we are there in less than 30 minutes. We get set up, have a bite of lunch and then Al, Mary and...

Feb 22, 2012 - La Quinta, CA

Feb 22 Beautiful day, David, Kathy, Clifford and I went for an early hike in the rocks and then we left for La Quinta, CA. Made 3 stops, the first at Skull Rock, then the Cholla Gardens and finally at the visitor center. Reached La Quinta around 11:00 a.m. We are staying at the Lake Cahuilla County Park. It is beautiful here, the temp is in the low 80’s, blue skies and we are overlooking the lake. We had a bite to eat when we got here. We have hookups so the first order of business was turn on the water heater and get a hot shower, and...
