Nov 27, 2016 - Happy Thanksgiving, a little late.

I hope everyone out there had a very Happy Thanksgiving. We sort of celebrated it twice. Last weekend we drove and stayed 2 nights at a Motel 6 in Oceanside to visit with Judy's daughter Susan, her husband Luis and his parents. We have doing this for the past 3 years but we celebrated a little early this year because we wanted to have Thanksgiving dinner here at the park. We had a nice meal with friends and we're thankful for all our blessings. - The time sure is flying, it seems as though November just started and now it's almost over and...

Nov 9, 2016 - Jacqueline Cochran Air Show

The Air Show was fantastic but hotter than hates and is just one of the many FREE things to do here in the Coachella Valley. Just a little info about Jacqueline, born 1906, died 1980. She was awarded 3 Distinguished Flying Cross Citations. Active in developing the WAAC and WASP program. Only woman awarded the Gold French Air Medal from France after WW2. Honored on a 50 cent US Postage Stamp. This woman was on the same playing field as Amelia Earhart but always found her way back to the airfield. - It was a true honor to meet Bob Friend,...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Oct 16, 2016 - The Coachella Valley

After spending 5 nights on the road we finally arrived at our winter home here in the Coachella Valley and I couldn't be happier. We arrived about 10:30 and got partially set up before the afternoon heat set in. I continued to get more things hooked up as the afternoon continued on but I had to ta ke breaks and cool off, at one point I new I had to stop as I was at the boiling point. - This morning while it is still cool, well if you consider 72 degrees cool, I'll spend some more time and get our new wooden steps re-assembled that I built...

Feb 9, 2016 - Tennis Road Trip

February 8, 2016 Tennis Road Trip Today Susan's tennis team had a league match in Palm Desert. We left Borrego Springs at 9:30 and arrived at Shadow Mountain Resort shortly after 11:00. What a gorgeous place! The team (and I, their unofficial mascot) enjoyed lunch in the shade on the patio before it was time to warm up. Three teams were playing: Team 1, Vicki and Carol (not me, this Carol is tall and a good player); Team 2, Lisa and Judy; Team 3, Susan and Jackie. There were metal bleachers set up next to one of the courts. By now the...

Jan 6, 2016 - Palm Desert Art Museum and Sculpture Garden

January 6th is a tough day for me to get through. I got calls from the kids who want to share memories of their Dad and by talking to them it helps all of us deal with our feelings of sadness and emptiness having to live life without Tom. Keeping busy helps. Much to my surprise the sun was shining when I awakened this morning. I checked the weather forecast and the heavy rain was not expected until late afternoon so I dashed to the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert and the adjoining Sculpture Garden. This is a very small facility but I...

Jan 2, 2016 - A Week in Palm Desert/Palm Springs

Arrived at the resort by mid afternoon - just enough time to get to the store to stock up on necessities for the week. Unfortunately for me, rain is in the forecast Tuesday through Thursday. Must get in my outdoor activities tomorrow and Monday. Plenty of museums for indoor days.

Nov 28, 2014 - More California!

We arrived at Eastshore RV Park 25 minutes after we left Prado into our favourite site - C36 - overlooking the lake. It was the end of a weekend which turned out to be a long one. Most schools were closed because Tuesday is a holiday (Veterans Day). We wandered over to the race track. Larry had had an e-mail about new trackside RV sites with full hook-ups when he first ordered our tickets. After checking them out, Larry called to see if any were available. They had apparently sold out really fast. There were only 25 of them. Luckily, there...

May 2, 2014 - Palm Desert, CA

April 16 thru May 2, 2014 Palm Desert, CA Welcome to California! Gas prices are at least $.85 per gal higher and the speed limit for an RV towing a car is 55 mph on 70 mph roads. One of our favorite Western Horizon Resorts (WHR) is Indian Waters in Indio, CA but this is another resort sold by WHR. Fortunately, Thousand Trails has a resort in Palm Desert, about 25 miles west of Indio, called Palm Springs RV Resort. This resort is not nearly as nice as Indian Waters but it has its own unique character since the resort is an active date...

Jan 12, 2014 - Plan "D" and a Happy Birthday

Well, I think we are on Plan "D" now for this winter. Today we changed our minds as to how we will spend the next two months here in Southern California. We had plans to go back to Wilderness Lakes, about 75 miles south, then back up here to Desert Hot Springs and then to Indio (the last two are commercial parks)but instead we decided to head to the Salton Sea area. - On Tuesday we will be at Oasis Palms RV Park on the west side of the Salton Sea and will be there a month. The sites are spaced among a citrus grove of orange, tangerine and...

Jan 11, 2014 - Butterflies, Oranges, Grafefruit and Sunshine

As I sat outside in our 77 degree weather this afternoon I noticed a butterfly fluttering about in a grapefruit tree in front of our RV. I said to myself that it just can't get any better than this. There are many citrus trees and of course the Date palm trees that I showed you in my last entry. The park allows you to pick the oranges and grapefruit but only what you are able to eat that day. I only wish that the sites had more room to them. It's just too close to the guy next to you. Even with that said it's still a nice park but I doubt...

Jan 8, 2014 - Thousand Trails-Palm Springs

I didn't cry when we left Borrego Springs on Monday but I wanted too, I just love that place. It was a short 75 mile trip up to the Thousand Trails park in Palm Desert (or Palm Springs as it's called by TT ). - We usually get an early start but we had to wait around for a UPS package to arrive. It was being sent to the Admin office and sometimes UPS doesn't deliver there until 4 PM. If we had to wait till 4PM we would be trying to park our RV in the dark in the very tight RV spaces here between all the Palm Trees. - Judy and I figured we...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Mar 4, 2013 - all downhill

Today we took a twenty mile bike ride - all downhill. We started at about 1,000 feet elevation and ended 150 feet below sea level. It was part of a tour. Now that we know the route, we could do it ourselves, but it would mean we would have to ride those twenty miles back uphill to our car. That's not going to happen! There were only three of us with a guide who drove the sag wagon behind us and stopped every so often to tell us about the changing environment and answer our questions. She pointed out evidence that the San Andreas fault was...
