Jun 16, 2011 - Exit Kirk Creek Destination - Yosemite

Yea Yea we are finally communicating again. It has been five days that we have been incommunicado. There is no telephone or computer access 30 miles each side of Kirk Creek. We left the campground a day early so we would have time to make stops in interesting places which we did. FYI we have traveled 4,260 miles, use 449 gal of gas at a cost of $1702.00 It was foggy and 52degrees in morning like every morning at the beach. A couple miles down the road we had to stop a while as they are building a new bridge to replace a section of the road...

Jun 12, 2011 - San Simeon to Kirk Creek Camground in Los Padres National Forest

We today we drove the infamous 40 miles on the PCH. Not many miles from San Simeon a sign said the road narrows and the road begins to rise. Sandie was scared to death almost the whole way. Why? because you travel on the edge of cliffs with many hair pin turns either going up the mountains or down. The only saving grace was we were driving next to the mountains vs. the other side where there are absolutely no guardrails. If you went over the side then that is it. In addition to the narrow road there were many many rock slides all along the...

Jun 11, 2011 - Pismo Beach to SanSimeon Beach

The drive from Pismo Beach to San Simeon Beach was a beautiful drive all along the pacific coast. The views from the road are breath taking. Weather was perfect 70's and blue skies. Not much elevation yet. We collected lots of finely polished small stones. Lots of jade jade, amethyst, brown etc. We have never seen stones like this anywhere on the east coast. The shells at Sanibel are nice but there are like a jeweler made them. Wow what a find. I(Don) biked to WR Hirst Castle about 6 miles from the campground. It looks like quite a tour...

Jun 10, 2011 - Driving on the Pacific Coast Highway, RT 1

Well we finally made it to the Pacific Coast Highway, it is really pretty. We drove through mountains and miles and miles of strawberry, broccoli, cauliflower fields, that just go and on, this is certainly the produce basket of America! We went by Vandenberg Air Force Base which has underground tunnels and does secret stuff, its in the middle of nowhere! They launched a satellite while we were driving by. We stopped for the night at Oceano County RV park that is two blocks from Pismo beach. Rt. 1 in front of us and AMTRAK in back of us! May...

Mar 30, 2010 - Pismo Beach Sands Rv, Oceano, Ca

We had a great day driving from Desert Hot Springs along the I-10 to Pasadena and then connecting to the Pacific Highway 101 near Santa Barbara. We ended our day at the beautiful Pismo Beach Sands RV Park in Oceano, California. We stopped for lunch on the outskirts of Santa Barbara only to find another sad case of the economic downturn. So many areas we've visited during our trip have fallen to extremely hard times and Santa Barbara is certainly another one of them. Not quite as bad as Palm Springs where we discovered the only shopping...

Jul 14, 2009 - Heading home Part 2

Departed Ramona at 7:30 AM, 72 Degrees. Drove North a long 318 miles. Worst part of the trip was getting through the LA area. Even though we skirted out and around LA it still took 2 hours just to get out of the area. Had four slowdowns between Coroana, CA and Santa Barbara, CA. Temperatures ranged from 72 in Ramona to 94 in LA to 69 on the coast. When we arrived at our overnight park, the temperature was a very pleasant 71 with a light on shore breeze. We are only 1 mile from the beach so sleeping should be very nice. Will continue our...

Apr 11, 2009 - Last Day at The Beach

We went into the main part of town today. A band was playing on the Pier and a lot of people were enjoying the sights and sounds. It was quite festive. Wish I had remembered my camera for a few shots of all the activity. We sat and listened to the music for awhile and then headed over to Pismo Fish and Chips for lunch. Phil had the seafood chowder again and I had two pieces of fish - very good! On the way back to the pickup we walked through a few shops and looked at all the tourist items. There is no recession in Pismo Beach - business was...

Apr 10, 2009 - Big Day

We have been married 27 years today! Time has gone by so fast and I still feel so lucky to have found Phil. We exchanged nice cards this morning. We both agreed that we were meant to be - how nice is that? Spent the day in the RV. It is windy and very chilly. Phil waxed the trailer in the early afternoon. I cleaned up a bit and spent the rest of the time doing some cross stitching. I brought a ton of stitching to work on, but really miss piecing of my latest quilt. Need a bigger RV for that! This evening we went out to celebrate our...

Apr 9, 2009 - Spring Break

The park is full of kids and families here on Spring Break. The dogs are having a good time watching all the kids go by and also enjoying compliments of how cute and pretty they are. That always makes them feel extra special! This morning Phil wiped down the trim on the trailer with some special stuff he has to get rid of the oxidation that has taken place over the past months. It looks great and really works. He takes a lot of pride in keeping all his vehicles in good shiny condition. While he was outside doing his things, I unpacked what...

Apr 8, 2009 - We have arrived!

We arrived safe and sound in Oceano, CA and are staying at Pismo Coast Dunes RV Park. We are in Space 6 and have made it home for the next few days. We had a nice drive over. There was some rain but nothing serious. What we did find is that on this side of the mountains and with the time of year, it is freezing to us desert rats. The high has been in the low 60's and with a breeze, we are a bit chilled. No big deal tho, it is a nice change. Tonight we expect to sleep well and revel in the fact that we are back in our little rolling home at...

May 4, 2007 - Laguna Seca to Arroyo Grande, CA ~ 150 miles

It was misting heavily this morning, as I was loading the SUV on the trailer and unplugging the coach from water and shore power. Ann was ready sooner and left earlier. She is heading home to Tucson. Her biggest concern is where to stay tonight along the way. I had to stop in Salinas, CA to take on fuel. I had to wait for a semi to finish and then followed him into the fuelling stall. I was topped off in about 5 minutes and back on the road South. Hwy 101 was fairly decent regarding smoothness and I had a tail wind (can you believe it?). I...

May 4, 2005 - Pismo Beach

Well, we broke camp today and moved our little caravan down the road about 50 miles to Pismo Beach. This is a nice park, right on the ocean and we have a perfect spot near the pool, cafe, laundromat and general store. There is a lot of wildlife in the park. Ducks follow us around and squirrels are so friendly they come right up to you. As I stood taking pictures, the little critters showed no fear and came from all over to get in the shot. We were a little hesitant to feed them because I didn't want to create a "mob mentality" in the group...
