Sep 18, 2012 - Around Mount Shasta

Around Mt Shasta Sep 18, 2012 We have set up our Grand Jct at the very first place I lived when arriving in Mt Shasta back in 1976, Abrams Lake Mobil Home and RV Park. It's located a little northwest of town in the shadow of Black Butte, an old cinder cone which also cast shadows on Interstae 5. When I lived here back in 1976 my neighbor Neal worked for his dad's logging company and it was Walter that finally gave me a chance to work in the woods. Back then as today it was one of the better paying jobs. Although logging is a bit different...

Sep 12, 2012 - Mt. Shasta

Mountain Gate camp is the best value we have found in all of our travels. They even served continental breakfast with bagels, pastries, muffins and coffee. Nice touch! We stopped to talk with Bruce and Kim of Jacksonville, FL who have a Roadtrek 210. Those who have Roadtreks love to talk about them! Spent an hour comparing rigs and travels with the outcome that they may visit us in Sonoma. They have family in Forrestville and Bakersfield and have plans to move to the west coast. They both recently retired but Kim worked for one of my...

Oct 3, 2011 - Mount Shasta City, CA

The weather turned rainy as we left Valley of the Rogue. Stacy and Sharon had left the day before to head over to the Oregon coast. So it was just Murray and Shelle and us to pack up and drive in the rain. We stopped just over the California border in Hilt for a liquor stop at All Star Liquors. The employees were helpful and efficient and the stop was well worth it. Our destination was an overnight stop at Abrams Lake Mobile Estates and RV Park. The sites were nice and level and had full hookups, a good place to stay for one night. But...

Aug 19, 2011 - "a few of our favorite things" (about Escape trailer camping)

Being more easily able to visit with family and friends and re-membering: childhood, youth, young adulthood… Finding the common roots and celebrating life! TRAILER GIFTS: A refrigerator: We don’t have to buy ice every other day and there’s not ice water in the food A potty at night:-) A potty when we need to stop and there’s not a rest area anywhere nearby (eat your hearts out Mac Donald’s) A kitchen area for making lunches: no lugging picnic baskets and coolers in and out A bed all ready to climb into at night (and having sheets is nice...

May 1, 2011 - Mount Shasta, CA

As you can see, we did not go to Crater Lake. We checked their web site and found that we could not get to any of the rim sites due to the snow. Only thing open was one visitor center, so we decided to head for Mount Shasta. As we were preparing to leave Hiouchi Hamlet, I noticed a nail in one of the trailer tires, not flat, but would have had I not noticed it after a few miles of driving. It was about 11:30 when we finally got on the road, weather was great and driving conditions excellent. We got to the town of Lake Shasta about 4 p.m....

Sep 10, 2010 - Friday, Day 24

Very hectic morning - all of us slept in til 8:00 am - probably cause it was too chilly to get out from under the covers. Cathy swore it was 50 degrees inside. So showers, breakfast and getting them out the door - negated the usual teary good bye's. We exited the park right on time - 11:00 am and began our trek north. First stop tho - to the Vacaville Outlet Mall - about 55 minutes away. Have had a jacket to return to Chicos and wanted to do it before I lost the receipt. Ended up being about a 45 minute stop and then we were back on the...

Aug 24, 2010 - Diamond Lake,OR to Mt. Shasta,CA

We regretted leaving such a piece of paradise as Diamond Lake. The beauty of the area is so incredibly magical-towering firs, mystic blue lakes, jagged mountain peaks, azure blue skies dotted with cotton clouds-one could go on and on. The drive to Mt. Shasta was the terminus of our time in Oregon this year and we bid it a fond farewell and treasure our many memories there. The snow covered peak of Mt.Shasta stood as our stately guide as we drove to the town of Mt. Shasta and our overnight stay at our same RV park we spent a week at in July....

Aug 10, 2010 - Last day in Mt Shasta City

I knew I should never miss a day of journals… Now I have so much to tell you and almost 300 pictures to show you. Well I will trim down the pictures or we will be here all night but we sure have been busy on our last two days at Mt. Shasta.. We started our morning by returning to the little town of Dunsmuir to finish seeing what we didn’t see the day we went to the Castle Cregs State Park… This time we were looking for more waterfalls…. We found the parking spot for Mossbrae Falls, the first one on our list, but when we got there we learned...

Aug 7, 2010 - Around Mt Shasta

We have been on the go day and night the last couple of days.. I’ll try to catch up now… Yesterday we went south east on hwy 89 to the town of Mc Cloud and then continued about 6 miles further to the recreation area on the McCloud River….. This is where they have three waterfalls that you can find by walking a very nice trail… We parked at the bottom and started out to see what it was all about… We first came to the lower falls where steps took us down to the pool at the bottom… You could swim here if you were brave enough to get into the...

Aug 5, 2010 - Touristing

Outside of the fact that we just love the Medford area, my main reason was to see if I could find some cousins that I had not seen in 56 years…. This is my Dad’s sisters family and until a short time ago I did not know their married names or even if they are still in the same area… Well it turned out that all three are in the same area with one of the next generation actually living in what I remember as the farm… Of course things have changed a real lot but not the beautiful weeping willows in the front yard… It turned out that I was only...

Jul 29, 2010 - Southern Oregon Coast and Mt Shasta, CA

July 29th , 2010 We stayed two nights in Florence at the Elks Lodge RV Park about 3 miles north of town. They offer 40 sites with water and electricity for $18 per night. Each site has trees and landscaping to provide a little shelter from the coastal winds and drizzle. We wanted to stay a couple of more nights but the park was booked solid for the next two weeks. We called the Elks Lodge in Brookings to see if they had any openings and the lodge secretary said there were at least four openings, but they don‘t take reservations. When we got...

Jul 18, 2010 - Tamarack & Upper Twin Lake

We drove 30 miles south west of Mt. Shasta to a very remote pair of lakes deep in the heart of the Shasta Forest and just south of the Crags State Park. It was 18 miles of slow two lane to one lane blacktop forest road that wound upward from 2000 feet to 6000 feet. It was total isolation but a fabulous forest ride. The final 3 miles were on gravel that greone w progressively worse. In fact the final mile we drove over and dodged fallen trees and huge boulders-not to mention the ruts and heaves. Suddenly a yellow jeep startled us as it...
