Apr 26, 2011 - Back to a Sunny Yosemite
Today is a bright sunny day and we headed back to Yosemite. On the road into the park is a detour around a slide that totally covered the road a few years ago. Now there is only one lane and you have to wait at a light for up to fifteen minutes. We decided to take second pictures of all of the sights in the sunshine so we stopped first at the Cascades. Next we went back to Bridal Veil fully equipped with rain gear. We took pictures from the parking lot again then walked up the trail to the base. Because the falls are so full of water and...

Apr 25, 2011 - Visiting the Jacksons
It took about an hour to drive down to Coarsegold over a killer mountain pass. It was great to see the Jacksons again. They seem to be in great health and are every bit the fun people they have always been. We had a nice visit and shared some pictures of each other's families. Then we drove out to Bass Lake where we had camped with them more than forty years ago. The campground is no longer there. We had lunch at a neat little cafe then drove around the lake. When we got back to the Jacksons we visited a little longer then headed back to our...

Apr 24, 2011 - Into Yosemite
It is Easter Day but there is no Episcopal Church in Midpines so we celebrated Easter admiring God's work in Yosemite. It is a cloudy day but we were still able to see many of the sights of Yosemite. There has been a heavier than normal snowfall this year and with the spring melt the waterfalls are magnificent. The first one we came to was the Cascades. It is quite pretty but you cannot get very close without climbing across rocks. While we were taking pictures, a man told us that you could get to the top of the cascades on another road...

Apr 23, 2011 - Headed to Midpines
Beginning Mileage 113571 Ending Mileage 113713 Yosemite/Mariposa KOA 6323 Hwy 140 Midpines, CA 95345 209-966-2201 8.5/9/8.5 $47/nt We had an uneventful trip up the valley and into the mountains. Mariposa which is the closest town of any size, is a quaint little place with some nice cafes and even a Burger King. The campground is about as close as you can get to Yosemite without staying in the park. It is very nice with a fully equipped market. The only drawback is a lack of cell phone coverage and hence broadband coverage for us. We drove...

Apr 30, 2008 - Drive to Yosemite National Park
Hey everyone, Today we left wherever we were outside of the Sequoia National Park (I have no idea what the name of the town is - Mom says, "Barstow, California"). We drove for maybe three hours to a KOA near Yosemite National Park. I slept for most of the drive since the battery on my laptop ran out (five minutes before this happened dad turned off the generator). The site at the Yosemite/Mariposa KOA is really nice. It is level, and there is a bunch of grass for Aruba, but at the very front of the site is the widest and tallest tree...

Apr 12, 2008 - Midpines, CA
It has been 42 years since we were last in Yosemite National Park. Fortunately the beautiful scenery hasn’t changed. It was a beautiful 1 hour drive from our RV park to Yosemite. Once again the purple, yellow & gold spring wild flowers were all in bloom all along the roadside & mountain sides and the red bud trees were showing their beautiful colors. In the distance towards Yosemite the mountains were still snow-covered. It was quite a breathtaking sight. This is Saturday so the park was fairly crowded with travelers, but there is a free...

Apr 2, 2008 - Yosemite National Park
After leaving Las Vegas, we felt the excitement of renewing our Great Adventure, in this case with our planned trip up thru California, Oregon and Washington on our way to spending the summer in Canada and Alaska. We’ve been looking forward to this trip for some time—hope it lives up to our expectations!!! Our first goal was to visit Yosemite National Park before heading over to the San Francisco area to visit family and friends. The first two days of travel in California were uneventful, with the most exciting thing about our stopover...
