Jun 17, 2009 - Oceano to Marina on California Highway 1
We were unable to leave Oceano for Marina on June 14th as planned. The truck engine began missing while we were touring the Oceano area on Friday, June 12th. I was certain the problem was similar to last year when we had a bad fuel injector, so I took the truck to the Ford dealer on Saturday. The diesel mechanic was not working that day but I had the fuel filters replaced. Then the truck quit completely at the gate of the RV park. I had it towed to the Ford dealer and the service rep said that if the only problem was an injector, it would...

Mar 31, 2008 - PCH-Marina, CA
We woke to a cold morning – 35 degrees – brrrrr! We were back into winter weather conditions, although the day was clear and crisp with not a cloud in the sky. After a short trip up the coast to San Simeon we stopped for a tour of the Hearst Castle. The Hearst Castle was built by William Randolph Hearst over a 28 year period beginning in 1919 with the help of architect, engineer and artist Julia Morgan. William Randolph Hearst’s father, who had moved from Missouri to California, had made his fortune by discovering silver near San Francisco...

Driving an RV in inclement weather means always, always having two hands on the wheel. 2. The arm rests sure do feel good when you've forgotten about them for the previous 20 minutes. 3. When looking for the light in the bathroom, look up on the ceiling. It will still be up there when you go to turn it off less than a minute later. 4. Being stuck in traffic in an RV is not any more fun than being...

Aug 31, 2007 - Marina, CA
On Tuesday, we moved about 40-some miles to the Monterey Bay; with the move from inland to the coast, the temperatures dropped 30-some degrees. Our timing was perfect: just when Morgan Hill (and Walnut Creek) reached 100 degrees, we're at Marina Dunes where the high was 68. When we arrived at the freeway exit next to the rv park in Marina, traffic was backed-up and police and other official vehicles/uniforms were everywhere. We eventually got the news that there had been a shark attack on the beach adjacent to the rv park (and it was the...
