Jun 5, 2012 - Day 10 +11- Lompoc
Left Anaheim Tuesday and stayed two nights in Lompoc. We ate a delicious Mexican dinner at El Toro Bronco. This area is mainly agricultural, and Lompoc is known for their flowers. I never really thought of flowers as being a huge ag product. On Wednesday we went to Solvang, home of the largest Danish settlement in US, and also the Hans Christian Anderson Museum. Met a guy from Jackson, MS in the bookstore, and he knew of the Book Exchange! He suggested a local bakery for us to try and it was amazing! I got a pistachio almond cup and Daryl...

Jul 23, 2010 - Home at last where we were greeted with enthusiasm by Daisy and Sassy
We arrived home at 5:30 on Tuesday evening. And were greeted at the door by our two dogs who were so excited, they hardly knew what to do. There was jumping and wriggling, and twirling around, and running up and down the halls at top speed. Gee, it's great to be loved and missed. We spent the evening just relaxing and enjoying the house and the dogs. Unpacking didn't happen till the next day. Irish went back to work, and I did the unpacking, washing, grocery shopping, etc. Now we are back in our usual routine, and I will begin planning and...

Apr 3, 2010 - Beach Recap
We have spent more than three months this winter camping at Jalama Beach in Southern California. This was our second time here and we love it even more than we did the first time two years ago when we first started out. It is our favorite place to stay so far and our favorite beach. When we were here last time, there were a few other couples who had been camping here who were "old timers". This time, we are the old timers. The rangers remembered John from our previous visit and greeted him with "Pretty Damn Nice"! -- We settled into Site...

Mar 18, 2010 - Another Update
We are in town once again for chores and another trip to the dentist for me. I am so appreciative to have been able to get my teeth fixed and cleaned by Dr. Thiele here in Lompoc. I never thought I would say how thankful I was for a dentist but he and his staff are wonderful. -- This morning, we said a sad goodbye to Craig and Colleen, who are heading back east and home. We have enjoyed getting to know them over the past month or so and will miss them. They are good people. -- We were nicely surprised recently with a visit from my sis,...

Mar 2, 2010 - Beach Life Continues
Once again, we have traversed the country road into Lompoc to do our chores and stock up on supplies. The ride into town just keeps getting more and more green and beautiful, if that is possible. -- We are still enjoying life at the beach. Most other people come and go after a few days. Our friends, Colleen and Craig, are still up on top with us. The park is mostly empty but does fill up some on the weekends mostly with locals. John has met several people who have been coming to Jalama Beach for many years and it is interesting to hear...

Feb 20, 2010 - On a Perch Overlooking Jalama Beach
It was difficult finding a campground north of Santa Barbara that didn't cost an arm and a leg. We had a brochure for a Santa Barbara County Campground that was in a remote place on cliffs overlooking Jalama (Pronounce J as an H) Beach in Lompoc. We decided we would go there. At $30 it was a steal. We met two men from a camping club who kind of scared us as we prepared to set off. The talkative one suggested we unhitch our car when we leave CA Route 1 and drive the 14 miles of curvy road to the camp. He also said, "I hope the county has...

Feb 18, 2010 - Spring Has Sprung
Once again, we are in town to do chores and make phone calls and computer contacts with the outside world. -- Spring has sprung here in coastal Southern California. There are lots of fruit trees blooming and the hills are emerald green. The weather has been very spring like almost to the point of being too warm some days. We try not to complain when it is hot or windy or hazy because, come on, we are living our dream at the beach! The rest of the country is in deep freeze, it seems. -- We had a wonderful visit last weekend with our good...

Feb 12, 2010 - A Quick Update
We are in town today, a Friday, because our friends Linda and Ray are here for the weekend!! We are so excited to be able to see them. But that means that we don't have a lot of time to post pictures, etc., so I will just do a quick entry to let everyone know that we are still doing great. The weather just keeps getting better and the hills keep getting greener. We have had lots of rain, but then it will clear off and be beautiful. -- When we were in town I forgot to mention that February lst was our anniversary date. It was two years ago...

Feb 1, 2010 - Only Two Months to Go
Another month has come and gone. We now only have two more months to go at Jalama. We have continued to enjoy watching the waves and the surfers and the occasional dolphins in the surf. The sea lion made another appearance and we saw another seal. The full moon on the surf this past few days has been spectacular. We have enjoyed extremely low tides which have enabled us to walk once more down to the point. Some of the sand has returned, although the beach changes every day. Life continues to be good and we have no complaints. -- We have...

Jan 29, 2010 - Another Glorious Day
Early this morning, before it was daylight, when John got up, he called me to come and look at the ocean. The full moon was setting and the moonglow on the ocean was so incredibly beautiful. I wish we could be able to capture it in a picture. There was only one small wave washing up on the beach so it was very serene. -- When I got up, much later, there was lots of blue sky and puffy white clouds floating around. Off in the distance, I could see a tug boat towing a barge in and there was a bank of dark fog sitting out beyond that. John...

Jan 27, 2010 - The Beach is Back
This morning I was greeted with sunshine streaming in through the back window once again - my favorite way to be awakened. John was giving me weather updates as he came and went all morning. By the time I crawled out of bed, he was already outside sitting in his lawn chair, soaking up sunshine too. It was a beautiful morning, not quite as warm as it was before the storms last week, but pretty damn nice any way. -- Last nite, we got new neighbors, Gary and Cheryl from Fairfield. They will be staying two weeks. -- While we were enjoying...
