My mother-in-law is a Republican. Because she is such a gentle and decent lady, we've agreed not to talk politics. And she is a very good sport - she even let me get a photo taken with the life-size George Bush cut-out that Jen gave her a few years back. But on this trip we managed to find some political activities we could both enjoy - visiting Presidential Libraries - Reagan and Nixon. Now to get to the Reagan Library you drive down from Lemoore (Jen's home town) in central California to Simi Valley, to the north of LA. Amazingly enough...

Dec 13, 2008 - Naval Air Station Lemoore, CA

We got underway from Las Vegas a little later than planned. By 3:30 we stopped for a break. Much to our amazement we saw snow on the ground in Telehachi, just west of Mojave. When you think of desert I certainly don't think of snow. At that point we knew we'd be too tire to make it all the way to Oakland. I called Navy Lodging and was able to get a two room suite for $40 for the night at NAS Lemoore. My first duty station in the Navy in 1971 was Naval Air Station Lemoore, CA. Dec 14, 2007 - Naval Air Station, Lemoore then Fresno

Friday, December 14th consisted of driving across the CA desert and up CA-99 through Bakersfield and picking CA-198 at Visalia through Hanford to Naval Air Station Lemoore. When I was stationed here in the early 1970's, CA-198 was a two lane road. Its now expanded to four lanes and divided highway through Hanford. When I was stationed here I had to go to Fresno to buy my car and now there are many dealerships in Hanford and Lemoore, with a shopping mall in Hanford.
