Aug 4, 2010 - Garden Grove, CA (Day 8) - Update

(Ron Writing) Our original plan was to just spend a couple days in California and then head out on our next adventure but eight days later we’re still here. About three or four months ago my left shoulder started hurting when I moved my arm to certain positions and this has slowly gotten worse instead of better. So I decided to try to get a doctor to take a look at here in California. I was able to get an appointment with our friend’s doctor a few days ago but he thought I should see a specialist. I have an appointment with a shoulder...

Jul 28, 2010 - Garden Grove, CA - Back Home In Da Honu

(Ron Writing) On Sunday we moved from the beach house where the reunion was held to Elena cousin’s house in Hanapepe Heights where we spent our last two nights on the island. We had a relaxing Monday. Elena took Aunt Olivia shopping in Lihue while I stayed home to do some work on the computer. Monday evening Aunt Olivia invited us over for dinner. Ralna and her daughter Cydni and cousin Randall also came for dinner and we had a great visit. Early Tuesday morning we stopped by some of the relatives for a quick final good-bye before heading...

Mar 1, 2010 - Back "home"

We're back in Garden Grove Elks again. We're going to the doctors, visiting with family and friends for a week before going back up to Silent Valley. As much as we enjoy being here it does cost $$. Up at Silent Valley our stay is counted in the membership, we get 120 days a year for our annual dues. So we really should make use of it.

Feb 18, 2010 - Congress, AZ (Day 2) - Back to Our Winter Home

(Ron Writing) Our last few days in California were busy as we attended functions at church and got together with friends. Then on Tuesday I came down with a cold which kind of slowed me down. Elena attended the regularly scheduled meeting of the small group we were members of, but I stayed home trying to recuperate. Yesterday we left Garden Grove around 9 AM and arrived back at North Ranch at 5:30 PM. Aside from my cold it was a good day for travel. John had called to tell us that the person camped next to him, in the site we occupied...

Feb 12, 2010 - Garden Grove, CA (Day 6) - Fun in CA

(Ron Writing) We’ve been keeping real busy here in California. It seems like nearly every meal has been shared with friends and we’ve also had appointments with our optometrist and dentist. Elena passed her eye test but I get new glasses next week. We both failed our exams at the dentist but I did much better than Elena. I need one crown and Elena needs four of them. In each case it’s because we have very old and large fillings that have gone bad. We return to the dentist on Tuesday to get all these crowns made and installed. Our dentist...

Feb 7, 2010 - Garden Grove, CA - Visiting Friends in CA

(Ron Writing) On Thursday I left North Ranch early in the morning to pick up Elena at the airport in Phoenix. We all know that airplanes ALWAYS arrive late – except this time. They had a very strong tail wind on the flight from Honolulu and arrived in Phoenix an hour EARLY. So Elena was patiently waiting for me by curbside when I arrived. We drove to Prescott Valley, AZ to visit my sister a couple days. We had a nice visit and the weather cooperated too – we managed to time our visit between a series of rain and snow storms. Early Saturday...

Jan 1, 2010 - Happy New Year

Been staying at the Garden Grove Elks Lodge RV spaces for the holidays to visit with family. Several of the GG RVers are like family too. There is a young woman with an Autistic son whose husband is in the Air Force and was transferred to Colorado. But the schools there cannot help her autistic son so she stays here where the schools are good for him. Then her widowed mother stays a good part of the year parked in her motorhome next to her. They are lovely people and Larry often washes their motorhome windshield because it is difficult for...

Sep 22, 2009 - Heading south again

As we neared Los Angeles County over the Tejon Pass, and the Grapevine, we passed more agriculture and viewed the California Aqueduct along the Interstate. We passed by the cool, beautiful blue Pyramid Lake, located in the San Gabriel Mountains along Interstate 5 approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles. The reservoir lies on the border between the Angeles National Forest and the Los Padres National Forest in the northwestern portion of Los Angeles County, and is formed by Pyramid Dam on Piru Creek. The earth and rock dam was built in...

Oct 25, 2008 - Garden Grove, CA - We Are "Home"

(Ron Writing) This morning we drove a little south to Orange County, CA to attend a congregational meeting at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove. The meeting was held to discuss some changes that are taking place in the church leadership and operations. Elena and I have both attended this church since we moved to CA back in the 1970’s. We met at this church, then called the Garden Grove Community Church, in 1976 and were married there a couple years later so it is a very special place for us. We saw many of our friends there today and...

Apr 20, 2008 - Back in the OC

Stopping overnight at the Colorado River, we enjoyed the river's edge walking along the reeds and palms in the afternoon's light breeze and warm sunshine. Gidget was curious about the lapping sounds of water at the edge and carefully entered the water to chase a floating stick. As the current took it away, she ventured further out. I picked her up and carefully set her in deeper water and found that she actually could swim to the shore where she touched the bottom. She never had an opportunity to swim before so it was nice to know she...

Nov 22, 2007 - Thanksgiving

We enjoyed a family Thanksgiving at Cheryl's sister Juli's house. Brother Marc surprised everyone by coming to visit from Hailey, Idaho. It was a warm, lovely day so we took pictures outside. There were 4 generations there, with Laurel's daughter Shannon and her baby Violet & 9 yr old, Zowie. Pappa George brought a tear to everyone's eyes before dinner when he read a Thanksgiving Prayer that he had written. We are a very emotional family.
