Jul 19, 2012 - Garden Grove, CA - Orange County Fair
(Ron Writing) We’re still here in Southern California awaiting an appointment with a doctor before we get back to traveling. In the meantime we’ve been enjoying time with our friends, doing some work on the trailer, and just relaxing and enjoying the nice weather. It’s been so nice to enjoy some cooler weather after all the hot weather we had during our spring travels. Yesterday we went to the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, CA. The weather cooperated and we had mostly cloudy skies, which kept the temperature quite pleasant. Our good...

Jul 4, 2012 - Garden Grove, CA - Cooler Weather
(Ron Writing) After another day of driving south on I-15 we arrived in southern California around 3 PM. We plan to be here a few days spending time with some dear friends and tending to some appointments. When we arrived the temperature was in the mid 70’s – that feels soooo goooood after all the hot weather we’ve had recently.

May 4, 2012 - Garden Grove, CA - Good Times With Friends
(Ron Writing) Our stay in Garden Grove lasted a little longer than originally planned but that’s okay – we had a wonderful time. I didn’t post a daily blog during this stay but this post will serve as a summary. We attended our Bible Study group two Sundays and got to see many of our friends. We also attended the monthly meeting of the small group we were members of for several years and had a nice time with our close friends in that group. Elena had a luncheon with several of her pals from where she worked for many years. A couple of her...

Apr 18, 2012 - Garden Grove, CA - Back In Orange County
(Ron Writing) We left Jumbo Rocks CG around 9:30 AM and drove north to the 29 Palms entrance. From 29 Palms we headed west on Highway 62 to Yucca Valley. We made a stop at a farmers market along the highway to get some fresh veggies and then continued west and south on H-62 to I-10 near Palm Springs, CA. H-62 has very steep grades in this area as it drops down from the high desert to the low desert. Most of the time between Yucca Valley and Palm Springs we had beautiful views of the snow covered San Jacinto Peak (10,804’). It’s unusual for...

Mar 25, 2012 - Back "home"
We enjoyed a few more days of local cuisine and relaxing. I ventured downtown again to snap a couple photos of a mural & a lovely old mission style Catholic Church. I also visited the California Surf Museum on Pier View Way. It is small but packed with memorbelia and surfing facts. They even had clothing of the 60's and on each display a lists of the Billboard top music hits for that historical event. It was fun remembering the songs from those eras, linked to the historical event. If you can't visit their Oceanside, CA museum, check out...

Feb 26, 2012 - Snowed out
We left the warm Indio resort to go up to our membership campground for a few days before heading back to Garden Grove Elks. When we got up the mountain, it was a little chilly and the ranger at the kiosk said we picked a fine time to come up as they were expecting snow tonight and all day tomorrow. He said we would probably get snowed in and not be able to leave on Tuesday when we were expected back at the Elks lodge to take our hosting duties back and relieve Dave. So, we turned around and left, arriving "back home" for a few weeks to...

(Ron Writing) We’re still in Garden Grove keeping busy with appointments and getting together with friends. Today Elena had lunch with several of her pals from work. We had some record setting hot weather the first couple days but the past few days have been cool and very comfortable.

Apr 13, 2011 - Garden Grove, CA - A Visit to Southern CA
(Ron Writing) Yesterday we awoke to another beautiful morning and decided to stay at our peaceful campground for one more day. We planned a late afternoon drive up to a high ridge called Fonts Overlook where the view to the east with a late afternoon sun is said to be quite spectacular. But around mid-afternoon the wind started blowing and became very gusty so we decided to save that adventure for another time. We just had a very relaxing day at home with a nice long walk during the late morning. This morning we packed up and left...

Mar 31, 2011 - OUCH !
We came back to the Garden Grove Elks Lodge on Monday the 28th, and Larry took over the duties of RV HOST for our lodge's RV parking. Since my Dad's health has been worrisome lately and my parents needed some help around the house and yard, this is a good move since we wanted to save on fuel costs this year. We are back enjoying our lodge friends and spending time with family. Today's entry is entitled "OUCH" because I had to run to the dentist with a cracked filling and Larry wacked his head on the hitch. When he came in the rig holding...

Feb 20, 2011 - Homeward bound
We headed out and had some light rain on and off. By the time we crossed into California it was clearing and there was a lovely sight awaiting us as we approached Coachella Valley (Palm Springs area). The San Jacinto mountains and San Gorgonio mountains were snow covered - it was an amazing sight. Rains clear the skies, making them bright blue, and cover the mountains with snow. As we traveled through the LA Basin, Mt Baldy and the San Bernardino Mountains were also gleamng in brilliant white snow. It was sunny and warm when we reached...

Sep 21, 2010 - Garden Grove, CA
We got an early start before it got too hot. Thank goodness it got cooler as we traveled into California. It became overcast into L.A. and Orange County. We found our way to our Garden Grove Elks Lodge and set up, showered, picked up a rental car as I headed to my doctor for medication (I've been coughing for days) Larry took our truck to the CAT dealer to have them fix the A/C and look at the transmission. Sorry we didn't get to see the Chesapeake and Washington D.C. on this trip because the hurricanes were heading up the east coast, we...

Sep 17, 2010 - Garden Grove, CA (Day 52) - Updates
(Ron Writing) We are still in Garden Grove, CA getting my “frozen shoulder” treated. I’ve been having physical therapy every Tuesday and Thursday and this is scheduled to continue through next week. The shoulder is starting to feel a little better but it’s slow going. I guess that is to be expected with this condition. Besides the in-office therapy I do several exercises at home multiple times every day. Not much other news since we haven’t been traveling. We have enjoyed getting together with friends and time spent with our church group...
