Mar 24, 2020 - An Outing

We have been mostly staying home, not counting a daily walk around the campground weather permitting and one hike in the countryside. So today we decided we needed an outing. When we were here before we had driven to Swansea to the mines there. Today we drove to another mine in the area. As luck would have it, when we got to the top, the gate was open but posted with a no trespassing sign and a warning that cameras were in use. Drats! Until we started talking with a couple who came up on an ATV. Turns out he knew the folks who owned the...

Mar 18, 2020 - Lakeside Property

Sure enough, we had a lake outside and all around our trailer this morning. Quite impressive. Until our neighbor pulled out his sewer hose (which was under water) and let the whole mess drain into the sewer. And voila! We had dry ground again. Which made it a lot nicer when we had to get out the door to go shopping. Shopping is another story. I needed to get a few things. Well actually more than a few as this was to be my main monthly shopping trip. I needed to pick up some yarn and a couple things from the pharmacy so decided to hit...

Mar 17, 2020 - Didn't See that Coming

We went for a short hike in the desert yesterday because the weather was so nice. And we planned to do it again today, but one thin led to another and we were out of time before we got around to it. We did go out for a drive, but by the time we got back it was time for happy hour and then dinner. During dinner the sky began to darken until it was black. Then we had thunder and lightning and the heavens literally opened up with torrents of rain and high winds. Things were pretty dicey for a while! The whole trailer was rocking and the kitty...

Mar 14, 2020 - A Good Day

A few days ago, Buddy took Don out in the desert in his Razr. Since we have always like doing that sort of thing, I mentioned that I would like to go too, if he wouldn’t mind taking me. We had also talked about guns and shooting during one of our earlier happy hours, and Buddy volunteered to teach me how to shoot my new gun. (Remember, I mentioned earlier that Don finally let me shoot just before we came out of the campground in Pagosa, and I had not touched it since then.) So Buddy suggested we go for a drive and combine that with a...

Mar 13, 2020 - Friday the 13th

Today is one of the days we celebrate for our anniversary, since we were married on a Friday the 13th. Don wanted to go to the buffet at the Blue Water Casino, but I talked him into going to the Pirates Den, a riverside bar where we had gone before. Since it was evening, we ate in their steak house. We both had the special, tenderloin and shrimp scampi. It was excellent! I finally had to break down and go do some laundry today. It had been packed full every other time I went so I was not looking forward to it. Not that I ever look forward...

Mar 10, 2020 - Rain

Well the rain has set in for a few days here, so we are mostly sticking to the trailer. Out only for grocery shopping and to go to the bar for happy hour. Today when we were there a big rainstorm passed through. Obviously the roof was not built to keep out the weather, as the rain poured through every crack and even down through the ceiling fans. Pretty funny.

Mar 8, 2020 - First Weekend

The wind is a little cool, but the weather is just gorgeous, with bright sunshine. They had boat races today and yesterday on the river. Actually, I am not sure if you would call it boat or waterski races since each boat pulled a single skier on a slalom ski. And they were going faster than any sane person should go on water skis! It was fun to watch though and there were no crashes, thank goodness. We walk around the campground every day; not as good as some of our hikes at Big Bend, but at least we are moving around! Otherwise Don plays...

Mar 3, 2020 - Emerald Cove

We finally made it to the campground after a stop in Buckeye, AZ to get another new tire on the trailer. Hopefully we should be good for a while now! The campground looks just the same, with the same happy hour starting at 3. Don has been just waiting for this! We got partially set up today. It has been a long day, so we will delay getting the details taken care of until tomorrow. We didn’t even get here in time for happy hour!

Mar 17, 2017 - Time With New Friends

We actually got up at about our usual time for coffee. The first cup was in bed so I could hold the kitty, then the next 2 were on the beach. It was a beautiful morning, and promised to be hot and clear. We got with our campground neighbors, Sal and Sue, around 10:30 for a boat ride. Tbey have a nice mid size pontoon boat. Since we had not been on the river before, tbey decided to go as far south as possible first. We went as far as the Bluewater Casino and Resort. It was fun to see it from the water. Sal told us a lot of the history of the...

Mar 7, 2017 - Back to the River

We have returned to the river, and this time were fortunate enough to have riverside parking! Even better, we have some awesome neighbors. And warm temperatures! Unfortunately (or fortunately) I will be deserting Don and the kitty while I fly to Cincinnati to visit my mom for her 92nd birthday. I will stay with my sister and brother-in-law of course. Now I had to weigh this: let's see, 80 degree weather on the river versus 30 degrees with mom and sis. OK. No question which one I would choose, but I am really going to miss the river! We are...

Feb 26, 2017 - A Quick Trip

On the 17th we left Ajo for a short trip to Parker, California and Emerald Cove Resort on the Colorado River. We are actually parked across the river on the California side, hence the designation in the title area. This is our home resort in the Colorado River Adventures camping group we are members of, and we love it here. The river is clear and blue, the palm trees are tall and the people are really friendly. As members we can stay here for free for 2 weeks at a time. Unfortunately we are not here for long this time, as we had to desert...

Feb 21, 2011 - Earp, CA

Feb 21-28. Earp, CA. As you can see from the early pics, we had snow in the mountains when we left. We took HWY 62 to Earp, CA. It was 168 miles of good two lane road. It ran on the North side of Joshua Tree National Park (we didn't visit this year), there was very little traffic but the scenery was great. Emerald Cove Resort is located on the Colorado River and had a great view all around. One day we went for a drive across the Parker Dam and then onto Parker for some shopping. For the rest of the week we lazied out and enjoyed weather and...
