Feb 21, 2011 - Earp, CA
Feb 21-28. Earp, CA. As you can see from the early pics, we had snow in the mountains when we left. We took HWY 62 to Earp, CA. It was 168 miles of good two lane road. It ran on the North side of Joshua Tree National Park (we didn't visit this year), there was very little traffic but the scenery was great. Emerald Cove Resort is located on the Colorado River and had a great view all around. One day we went for a drive across the Parker Dam and then onto Parker for some shopping. For the rest of the week we lazied out and enjoyed weather and...

Jul 3, 2010 - Buelton / Solvang CA
Last night we arrived in Buelton CA, to a nice cool temp of 63 degrees. This was so nice because the day before it was 116 degrees. It was so cold last night , we both used a blanket! We plan on going into Solvang (a quaint little Danish town) to get some famous Danish pastries and then check out the Santa Ines mission. The campground is showing an outdoor movie tonight. If we can stand the cool night, we might check it out. I have attached some pictures of kayaking on the Colorado River. Hope you all can view them. Uploading these pictures...

Jun 2, 2010 - Our First Stop - The Colorado River
Hello Everyone, Well this is my first entry to our journal and I am quite frustrated. Who said this would be easy!! I have just spent about 2 hours on trying to download some pictures and still haven't been successful. Thanks Wayne for helping me to resize my picture files, that helped! However, a new glitch arose and I'm still not able to get the pictures downloaded. Sorry about that, I will get the pictures to you as soon as possible. Our neighbors, Gordon and Judy took a couple of pictures of us as we were leaving and we were on our way....

Feb 19, 2010 - Traveling the West
Arrived in Earp, CA. this am. Earp is just a PO, no real downtown. We are on the west side of the Colorado River. The water here is blue. We arrived in Quartzsite, AZ the last of October. Helped some friends at their flea market booth(where we could park our rig right by the booth) until the end of January. While there we had hurricane force winds with hail and rain. 70 mph winds. Then we felt an earthquake that happened in Mexico and ended up with a tornado the end of January, when CA. had all that snow and rain. Now the weather is lovely....

Feb 18, 2010 - "Sales Day"
Well today we fulfilled our obligation and sat through the sales presentation. This one was pretty high pressure with the “must buy today” offerings. When we informed that we were not buying their program, there were a few disparaging remarks and then told we could not, in the future, use our campground membership to stay at any of their parks because we didn’t buy. After some thought, a letter has been sent off to the California Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Affairs. It wasn’t disclosed in their advertisement nor sales presentation...

Feb 17, 2010 - On to the Colorado River
Took in the museum this AM before heading out. The museum is dedicated to Patton who was the first commander of the WWII training area camp set up in this wide CA and AZ desert area. What is left of it today is the Yuma Proving Grounds which we have stayed near (and will be again) the last two seasons. We headed out across the desert area towards Lake Havasu area ending up at Earp, CA along the Colorado River. Came across this motor home accident on I-10, not good. Out in the middle of “nowhere” again, who would have thought you would find...

Mar 2, 2009 - Blooming Cactus, Desert Dog Walks & London Bridge
Dear Friends & Family, We are starting to adjust to this 80 degree weather on our 10th day at Windmill RV Resort in Earp, CA (or Parker AZ) depending on which side of the Colorado River you are sitting on, or looking at. Returned to church Sunday so I could provide you an interior picture, especially of the ceiling. We follow with our traditional breakfast out trying out a different restaurant each week. Our life has been more often filled with making friends and Noreen's daily card game with 10-12 of her friends...the guys shoot pool. The...

Feb 26, 2009 - Swimming, Golf, Quartzsite & Coyotes
The morning of Day 11 of our trip opened early with the Coyotes making a lot noise just across the road from our trailer. Not sure if they, caught or were after a rabbit or maybe the little black dog one of our neighbors was walking in the canyon. I succeeded in getting 2 pictures (out of 7 or 8 taken) with the longest telephoto setting I have. A couple of days ago we rode our bikes the 3/4 mile to Emerald Cove Resort and found the pictured old store from an abandoned town in between. We have privileges to use the pool there and have gone...

Feb 22, 2009 - Day 7 - Church and touring
Dear Friends & Family, Sunrise on Day 7 found us at St. Thomas Church listening to the 6-member choir accompanied (or lead) by a guitar --- all 6 appeared to be 7th graders!!!! When they’re voices weren’t changing, they made up for some lacks in harmony with gusto The Hispanic priest delivered a great, memorized sermon. I’m starting to get the lay of the land…Noreen took me to Lake Havasu (38-miles north) yesterday (Saturday, 2/19). No pictures, I mostly saw the insides of Walmart and Kmart for necessities as in baskets and bins to make...

Feb 20, 2009 - Day 5- Settling into Windmill Resort, Parker
Dear Family & Friends, Day 5 finds us firmly entrenched (for two weeks, even paid today) at Windmill RV Resort(?). It’s clean, comfy and friendly. Has a pool table for me and daily River Rummy card games for Noreen every afternoon. I’ve spent most my time getting the trailer shaken down. Put the awning out, only 2nd time, and Canadian neighbor was on his way to Quartzsite (45 miles away) anyway and volunteered to pick me up some special clamps w/ straps to keep awning fabric from flapping too badly in the winds. Installed the clamps this...

Feb 18, 2009 - Windmill Park, 2 weeks on the Colorado
Dear Family & Friends, We're here...Noreen's very favorite winter campsite, Windmill RV Park on the Colorado River not far from Lake Havasua. We're parked, set up and the pups are aclimating. I'll add to this post tomorrow while attempting to adjust to 75 degrees, cloud-fee skies and a beautiful river flowing not near our door. Needless to say, I won't see much of Noreen while she is circulating thru the park visiting all her "old" friends..tonight it's "Stitch & Bitch" working on their weaving...which I'm enjoying because this is the only...

Mar 13, 2008 - Return to Emerald Cove - Earp, CA / Parker, AZ
Our 2 weeks at Lake Havasu Resort are over and since we had to go somewhere we decided to go back to Emerald Cove Resort. The weather continues to be gorgeous - lots of sun - temps in the mid to upper 80's during the day and 50's at night. Emerald Cove offers cable and internet so it was nice having those ammenities again. This campground is much larger than the one in Lake Havasu City and as the week-end approached got very busy. It's also spring break for the schools out here so there are a lot of families enjoying their vacation time...
