Jul 1, 2007 - Chico California

Our first stop started out in Chico, California. We will be staying there for 3 nights at the Almond Tree RV Park, where we have always felt welcome. We have stayed there in the past and are always happy with the sites we have been assigned. We arrived on a Friday and after getting settled, the kids came over for dinner. David just got a seasonal job working with USFS in a fire lookout in Plumas County and will be temporarily staying with his sister, Jennifer in Chico. He is in the process of moving out of his apartment in Arcata, Ca (that...

Dec 6, 2006 - Bakersfield Leg 1

we left Lakeport at about 8:45 a.m. which is the earliest departure time for us so far. It took us 3 hours on Highway 20 to reach I-5 at Williams, a distance of about 55 miles. Slow going because of winding road and construction. But wait!!! We hit I-5 at Williams at 12:45 p.m. and arrived in Bakersfield at 6:45 p.m. We covered 430 miles of which 370 or so over the 6 hours driving on I-5, with only a few brief stops. What a difference a freeway makes. We are staying at A Country RV Park in Bakersfield. From what we have seen so far, it is...

Apr 28, 2006 - Alaska Here We Come

When we arrived in San Diego last February we felt like this was the start of our trip to Alaska. Where do you start when you are fulltiming? Because we were following the West Coast up to British Columbia, we felt like this was the beginning but we did have to make a few detours inward to see family in the LA area and to get warm in Palm Springs. The last commitment we had though was the Escapades in Chico. This turned out to be one of the nicest weeks we have spent. We met a whole lot of people that we have been talking to on the 'net and...

The Beginning

Apr 17, 2006 - Chico, California - Spring Escapade

4/17 - 4/28 It took us seven days to drive 960 miles to Chico, California. Basically we drove west on I-10, made a right turn on US 95, a left on I-40 and then a right on California route 99 to Chico. Along the way we stayed one night in the desert on BLM land, two nights in the Butte County Fairgrounds and three nights in four different Wal-Mart parking lots. Yup, four different Wal-Mart's in three nights! This was the first time we got the boot at a Wal-Mart in over seven years of traveling. We arrived at Stockton and, after unhooking the...

Nov 1, 2005 - Making Lemonade in California

When life hands you lemons, make lemonade! Isn't that what they say? Today, I took that advice to heart. The drive out of Oregon over the Siskiyou Pass was an adventure, even though it was on an interstate. The highway continued to reach one summit after another for almost fifty miles. Fall had long ago ended in this part of the country, but the dead brown leaves were still on the trees. It was so odd to see the mountainsides covered by these trees. It was a relief when I finally realized that the trees were not dead, just the leaves. I...

Jan 19, 2005 - Depart San Francisco

In a conversation last August, Louise and Bob mentioned that they were planning a trip to India in January. Louise asked if I wanted to join the tour. I immediately said, "Sure, I'll go." I had always wanted to visit India but did not imagine traveling on my own. The large differences in culture and language seemed daunting. A trip to Europe felt easy in comparison. After hearing more details about the trip from Louise, I definitely wanted to go: travel for two full weeks in Northern India with a tour leader and guides, visit palaces and...
