Apr 17, 2010 - Just A Day At The Beach

Today we walked on the beach in the morning and rode our bikes across the whole town of Carpinteria. Just a great town and lots of nice people. A town that's open to all kinds of things to do and great places to eat. At three o clock we went to our friends house and had a fantastic visit for a couple of hours. Just a great lady and lots of fun to talk to. Lots of stories about the town and her life. She has lived in the same house for over 40 years and what a beautiful place she has. Back to camp to take a walk and then catch some more...

Apr 16, 2010 - A Visit With A Grand Lady

Back last Oct. we met Karen and her mom on the Blue ridge Parkway while camping. We became friends and stayed in touch over the months. Well we stopped in Phoenix to visit Karen and now we had the pleasure of a nice visit with Alma in Carpinteria. What a great person and Bev and I enjoyed having dinner with her at The Palms in old downtown. Tomorrow we either head north or stay one more night, and that depends on if the camp has room for us to stay. With out reserving a site we might get kicked out. we will see.

Apr 13, 2008 - Aaah back at the beach!

Well, thank heavens, our trek from Desert Hot Springs to Carpinteria State Park on the Pacific Ocean was uneventful. We traveled on Sunday to hopefully avoid some of the traffic in and around Los Angeles and we were successful. It was busy but not too busy and we only encountered stop-and-go traffic in one location. We were glad to have our GPS functioning again on this trip. Our GPS Magellan (Maggie to us) locked-up when we were in Joshua Tree and just wouldn't make a connection to the satellite. After much concern, we finally found the...

Jan 13, 2008 - Santa Barbara and Carpenteria

As I said in my earlier post, I did make it to church in Santa Barbara. Not on time, but I did get there. Parking was pretty easy to find, and being a Sunday I didn't have to worry about any parking limits. I walked in during Rev Mark Asman's sermon, the gist of which was to be open about who you are. He shared some personal stories about himself in the hopes that his disclosures would allow others to feel safe to do the same. Mark was ordained to the deaconate at Grace Cathedral many years ago he told me. The Associate Rector, Rev Eva...
