Aug 16, 2005 - Resplendent Redwoods (Richardson Grove RV Park south of Garberville)

Yesterday we drove south along the Redwood Highway through fog and soaring forests. To our right were abysses that sank into nothingness. We drove through Eureka, which looks poverty-stricken and has many hard-luck people on the street either begging for help or seeming too proud to do that. We drove through the Humboldt Redwood State Park along the famous Avenue of the Giants. Old growth redwoods are very impressive. The road was narrow with huge redwoods growing right next to the road. May 16, 2005 - Benbow, California

We cut short our stay in Bodega Bay and broke camp Monday a.m. to head north and search for some sun! We were told that Benbow had a nice RV Park so off we go! Of course the morning we were pulling out the skies were clear and the sun was shinning! And as luck would have it, we drove north and headed right into another storm! We had another exciting drive along the coast through winding roads and narrow curves. We girls have learned to just close our eyes and hold on tight! Later that same afternoon, we stopped in to The Benbow Inn in Benbow, Ca. Another flashback for Phil, as "the guys" had gone down there to swim and get out of the rain one weekend. This would also be a good choice for a romantic getaway. The grounds are still beautiful and the River close by for swimming. They also have a pool. We stopped in late in the afternoon for a stretch break, and enjoyed a cocktail in their very inviting bar. This is an elegant place.
