Feb 15, 2009 - A Journeying Ceremony
JoAnn took a solitary walk on the desert this morning while Doug ate breakfast. She is usually up long before he is and is determined to increase her exercise program via walking. We had our meditation period when she got back and then both of us went for another walk in the mountainlets nearby. We didn’t walk as far as we did yesterday as JoAnn didn’t want to get into too steep territory. We had purchased a slab of pork ribs when we were in Yucaipa and she cooked them this afternoon. It seems that our propane cut off once yesterday and...Jump to full entry
Feb 14, 2009 - Happy Valemtimes Day!
There was a big book sale by the friends of the library in town today and for JoAnn that is like waving a slab of meat in front of a lion…lioness. We found some good books and she got a library card so she can use it while we are here. We visited the Anza Borrego park visitor’s center and picked up some brochures and got a lot of information about the Hawk Watch which starts officially tomorrow morning. This is one of the big attractions that brought us here now we are trying to decide if we want to get up tomorrow or wait until the weather...Jump to full entry
Feb 13, 2009 - Back to Borrego Springs
Today was moving day and we had an uneventful trip which is always good to report. We got set up and on the road before a rain shower hit. That was lucky. We drove out of if pretty quickly on I-10. We left Yucaipa around 10:20 and had an easy drive to Borrego Springs. The truck worked great, we had overdrive, speedometer, windshield wipers and lights. Doug called the fellow who came out and did the work on the truck and for the second time got no return call. We are beginning to wonder if we were the victim of a good samaritan who performed...Jump to full entry
Nov 5, 2008 - In The Middle of Nowhere
Wednesday 5th November Happy bonfire night youse lot. How's the weather? Chilly? Wet? The temperature here has started plummeting - it got down to 75 degrees in the Cochella Valley today. Brrrrr! Ha ha ha ha - I'm so funny! I checked out of the Alpine Gardens Hotel in Palm Springs this morning - I can heartily recommend it to anyone who wants to visit the Palm Springs area. Well run, clean, good value - all you want. I intended a quick visit to one attraction on my way out of Palm Springs, an 'open' zoo just outside Indian Wells known as...Jump to full entry
Aug 24, 2008 - Anza-Borrego Desert
Jess and Chase made it back to the US (Yeah!) and we brought them out to San Diego for a week. We had a blast running around doing stuff everyday but they about wore us out! These are from the Anza-Borrego desert about 1.5 hours northeast of us. We went very early (like 5am) and did a short hike in the morning. It was a good thing because when we left at 9:00 AM it was already 98 degrees on its way to a high of 110! Dry heat my ass...it was hot!Jump to full entry
Mar 15, 2008 - Glorieta Canyon, Anza Borrego Dsp-a Glorious Day!
Today (Saturday) is a "picture perfect" day and we intend to do it justice! We had stopped by Liesel's Art Studio in Borrego Springs for one of her beautiful painted tiles by Armand Vallee (actually ended up with two), started talking about the magnificent flower season and she told us to check out Glorieta Canyon to see more varieties in bloom, including many cacti. Glorieta Canyon is a hidden treasure in Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Only a few miles south of town on S-3 you turn right onto an unmarked dirt road that actually winds...Jump to full entry
Mar 8, 2008 - Back To Borrego & Wildflowers!
We happily head back to Borrego Springs after our "country club" experience to see the peak wildflower performance and our good friends who are there. We have a brief visit with Rodger, Sharon and daughter Tracy, thawing out from MN., before they take our place at Outdoor Resorts in Indio, complete with 5-free night coupon. Steve, our oboe player friend who stays here all winter, and Sweetie his Pekinese who has now become the communal pet, join us for a "happy hour" get-together. Steve let me download one of his oboe solo CDs onto my iPod...Jump to full entry
Mar 4, 2008 - Day 31: The desert is a-bloomin'!!
We left today for Anza-Borrego Desert State Park just east, over the mountains from San Diego. As we traveled west from Yuma we were aware of the Border Patrol presence more than at any other time on the trip. As we passed the Imperial Sand Dunes there were Patrol vehicles scouting from atop dunes every ¼ to ½ mile. We continued through the Imperial Valley which is a huge agricultural area growing more of the USA's vegetables.. We picked up forwarded mail without a hitch in El Centro and made it to Anza-Borrego for a late lunch after...Jump to full entry
Feb 29, 2008 - End of Feb
Well, it is the end of the month and we are scheduled to leave Saturday. We have been here for three months and it seems like home but still there is great excitement in starting to travel again. We have really gotten into the life style at the RV Resort playing golf, swimming, and getting together with people for happy hour. Right now the weather is warmer than normal by about 10-15 degrees. The last two nights it has been just great to sit out and look at the stars without the chill that normally comes as the sun goes down on the desert....Jump to full entry
Feb 11, 2008 - Pizza Night In The Desert!
Now this was not your typical pizza night but it was the absolutely best, most fun and so indicative of the greatest group of folks we have the good fortune to meet up with along our gypsy path. Marlene and Richard are the owners of our motorhome's twin in almost every way. They are also, we just find out, members of the Escapee's RV Club, which provides a total support system for RVers from mail forwarding to technical forums, rallies and educational seminars. Marlene had left a message earlier to come over around 5 p.m. for pizza, bring...Jump to full entry
Feb 2, 2008 - WEEK 4 (HO-HUM)!
The highlight of our trip on Friday to Indio, about an hour's drive each way, was meeting up with friends, Bill & Carol from Denver, whom we haven't seen for at least two years. They were spending 5 days at the Outdoor Resorts in Indio en route to San Diego so we met for lunch at Clint Eastwood's "Hogs Breath Inn" in old town La Quinta. We listened enviously to recaps of their 3 week trip to Europe last fall which focused on Turkey; sailing on a Gulet along the Turquoise coast and touring the massive metropolis of Istanbul and on to many...Jump to full entry
Jan 25, 2008 - Anza Borrego, Week 3!
We have friends!! Rodger and Sharon from Minnesota, whom we met here in 2001, arrive in the Queen Mary, their 42' Safari Serengeti. Yes, they are the same ones we mentioned earlier in a context that proved not to be conducive to joking of the missfortunes of others! And yes, I think they still "love" us but don't think they read our "blahg"! We are happy for their company and always look forward to our all too brief encounters, usually once a year. And then there was rain! We don't know yet how much, but alot. And there is more to come! We...Jump to full entry
