Jan 15, 2008 - Mayflower Park

We arrived at Mayflower County Park in Blythe, California yesterday, for what I think will be a two week stay. This park is the strangest thing I have seen in a long time. The map they give you shows an orderly set up. The hookups are located as center posts in the middle of 4 rigs. So theoretically, the RVs should be parked clustered around these posts, but facing 2 back to back and 2 side to side. In reality you have some facing parallel to each other, and others going perpendicular from them and sometimes some going at an angle from the...

May 23, 2007 - Colorado River

Made it back to California. Approaching the border the gas kept getting cheaper and I stopped when I really didn't need to just to get some $3.04 a gallon gas. Then I actually found $2.99 just before California. Stayed in the Rivera RV Park right on the river. Not a bad place but this weekend is going to be nuts. Left just in time.

Apr 8, 2007 - Back to quartzite for some prospecting

After leaving Vegas, we made side trips to Quartsite (where we got our metal detector) to do a little prospecting, and then on to Tuscon to revisit some square dancing friends. Both were just to kill some time and hopefully let it warm up a little before going to the Grand Canyon. When we arrived in Quartzite, we arranged for our prospecting adventure. For some reason Karen felt compelled to take a picture of the local book dealer (he's the guy on the bicycle, picture 1). Early next morning we out in the desert loking for gold. I found a...

Mar 1, 2007 - Ehrenburg, AZ

Traveled a whole 23 miles today to move from the boondocking site we were on to a full hook-up park with swimming pool and laundry room. First thing I did as soon as the water heater warmed up the water was to take a long hot shower. Ron had emptied all the holding tanks and left the shower tank draining into the sewer connection so there was no problem with filling the holding tank. Then while I took the sheets, etc. to the laundry he took a shower. By the time I got back he had the TV dish connected and the internet dish ready to set up....

Feb 1, 2007 - Moving Day

Yesterday we moved from Quartzsite to the Colorado River Oasis RV park in Ehrenberg, AZ. It has got to be the record for our shortest trip so far - only 20 miles! We were fortunate that they had a riverside space available, so we are parked with our back window overlooking the Colorado River. We got set up and spent the rest of the day cleaning the desert dust out of the inside of the fifth wheel. This morning we went to the laundromat and did 3 weeks of laundry. This afternoon we are relaxing and taking it easy. We have set several...

Jan 29, 2007 - Ehrenberg, AZ

January 16 - 23 We arrived at the Colorado River RV Resort on Tuesday and were parked just 150 yards or less from the water's edge. The river is not too scenic as rivers go, but it makes a nice "back yard" for us as we plan to spend the next two weeks here. This is an AOR affiliated park, costing just $6/night for full hookups. It is not as nice as the one we just left, but it is still a nice park. Ehrenberg is a really small town, with limited services. The prime business is the Flying J station at the I-10 exit where a never ending line...

Jan 28, 2007 - The 2006 full time RV'ers graduating class

Here's the gang all gathered for our 06 rally. All of this people went full-time RV'ing in 2006. See we're not the only nuts doing this!!! I loved Quartzite because it is a giant flea market...Larry was less thrilled. We went geo-caching with a group,,,use GPS to find "treasures" in the desert. Larry decided that was interesting and it would be even more interesting to go metal detecting. So we bought a handy-dandy metal detector and proceeded to make our fortune. We're 35 cents to the good so far!!! LOL

Jan 19, 2007 - Hidden Beaches RV Resort in Blythe, CA--thumbs down!

How do we keep finding these places? Hidden Beaches RV Resort in Blythe, CA, is a real dump!! We picked this Passport America Park so that we could meet up with other Class of 2006 members and make final plans for our class gathering in Quartzite. As we entered the park we saw familiar rigs behind us. I had only met these folks on the internet, but recognized their rigs from website photographs. Charlie and Mike Harris and Gene (Reb) and Shirley Schaffer had arrived at the same time from the West...talk about timing!! When making...

Nov 18, 2006 - We're in California Tonight

We're in Blythe, CA for the night. We made it! It's good to be home again. We've missed California for quite some time. It will take another two days to get to the Bay Area from here. The Tahoe has been doing fine. Oil is up, temp is down, new tires have remained on the ground...."What's not to love about that?" (thanks Catherine for that line) Will add more later and some more pic's.

Aug 21, 2006 - Colorado River

We made it to California. Actually, we're staying at the Colorado River RV Resort on the Arizona side of the river, but we had lunch at the "Sizzler" in Blythe, California, 4 miles away. It is hot here, 116 degrees, and the humidity is high because we are right on the Colorado River. We'll stay here a couple of days. I used my Passport America Club discount, half price. So far, Passport America has paid for itself. The mountains here are beautiful. We passed through Quartzsite, AZ where the gem shows and RV Rallies are held each year. They...

Pinder's On the Road

Jun 24, 2006 - Sat - Blythe, CA

(Leaving: Joshua Tree National Park - Destination: Blythe, CA - 75 miles) 03:30 PM We exit Joshua Tree National Park and head toward I-10. Just before we leaveg Joshua Tree NP we pass by a sign that says "Fried Liver Wash". A wash is a dry stream bed and there is certainly no water around here to "wash your fried liver". 03:35 PM We get on I-10 at exit 168 and head east toward Blythe, CA. I guess we have finally headed home as we will continue in an easterly direction from this point on. 04:20 PM We arrive in Blythe, CA. We stop for gas and...

JD's Vacation 2006

Mar 7, 2006 - First day on the road.

We finally started our Odyssey on a cold rainy Tuesday, with a plan to follow Interstate Hwy 10 most all the way across America. From Oxnard we crossed Southern California, thru the Palm Springs area, with all the windmills as far as you can see. Spent the first night in Blythe, CA. There is nothing interesting about Blythe, it was just on the way, and when I was escorting tours, many moons ago, if we stopped there, in the summer heat, we would tell our clients that "they'd enjoy the pool"!
