Jul 17, 2012 - 26 miles in a leaky old boat

As the song goes Catalina the island of romance. Dad and I are on Catalina Island off the coast of Southern CA. We took the boat to this jewel and toured the island via a historic 1953 bus. What beautiful views we saw. Dad chatted up a man on the trip over who got us a locals rate for a hotel for the night at just $79. No comments on the pictures today but please enjoy.

Jun 11, 2010 - Santa Catalina

“Twenty six miles across the sea, Santa Catalina is a waitin for me. Santa Catalina is the island of romance”---so goes the refrain from the song by the four preps. The Santa Catalina Flyer cataraman took us to that romantic spot today in an hour and fifteen minutes. The Wolfs and Andersons had a fantabulous time! The Flyer surged through rolling Pacific waters with clouds of spray as we hit the large waves. It was a fun ride. We landed at the town of Avalon as the adventure began. The brightly colored Catalina tiles set in the adobe...

May 8, 2009 - Cruise May 2009

Well, we are back from our cruise. As most of you know, we did not go to Ensenada, Mexico due to the Swine Flu outbreak. We did get to sit off the coast for a few hours and see it. Our only stop was at Catalina Island off of California. We had a great time there and would love to go back and do more. We rented golf carts and did our own tour. I have sent a few pictures with this input and will send more later. The pictures are Sherry and I as we depart San Diego, the Cruise ship anchored in Catalina, some artwork made from seashells on the...

Dec 27, 2007 - Santa Catalina - Twin Harbors & Avalon

Santa Ana's blowing and Small Craft Advisory for the Catalina channel delayed the departure for Catalina. The destination was Cat Harbor on the backside of the island, but after a rough crossing and a bit of sea sickness, we decided to shorten the trip and headed to straight to Isthmus Cove. The cousins find plenty to do to entertain themselves. Unfortunately, no buffalo were sighted on this trip. We flew the Spinnaker for the first time on the way down the coast to Avalon the next day. We took a golf cart tour of this quaint city. The...

May 23, 2005 - Catalina, Island Escape

On the 20th, Dave and I took the Metro from North Hollywood to Long Beach (visiting Dave's Aunt Lillian while passing through Compton). From there we took a ferry from San Pedro to the beautiful Catalina Island. Dave had previous ties with the island while working there for a summer camp. The workers who were on this minimally populated island treated us as royalty. They were quick to forfeit their beds and to take the time to lead us on gorgeous hikes, snorkels, and kayaking escapades. Chistene and Courtney were two of the most...
