May 23, 2013 - Three Rivers, CA - Sequoia RV Ranch
Our trip from East Porterville to Three Rivers, CA was a short 53 miles through the orange groves in the valley. With just a couple of exceptions most of our trips in the future will only be 100 miles or less which are much more enjoyable than the longer ones like the previous one from Joshua Tree. We are staying at the Sequoia RV Ranch about three miles north of Three Rivers. It's probably the best park in Three Rivers but our site is a little small. They have nicer ones on the river or just off the river but they are completely shaded...

May 21, 2013 - Day 2 Bakersfield
This morning we awoke to quite an overcast morning but we were assured that it would soon clear and would then be very hot. After having breakfast we were all allocated our cars, 2013 Mustangs ours had 170 miles on the clock some had 7 miles on them. We were given instructions on how to use the gps and then we set off at 11.30am bound for Bakersfield. It was only 116 miles and took about 2 hours. The traffic was quite heavy with a lot of trucks on the road, but most of the way we had 4 or 5 lanes and the trucks stayed in the two right hand...

May 20, 2013 - Day 1 LA
After getting out to the airport nice and early we met up with Kylie and got the last of our documents before proceeding through the doors of no return. No dramas, boarded the plane on time and left on time. We were lucky enough to get a window seat and it was the seats right behind the bulk head, so we had heaps of leg room, which is really wasted on me but it was good for Garry as he was able to stretch out. Flight was uneventful [just as I like a flight to be] and we arrived in LA a little earlier than expected at 12.30pm Monday. Sailed...

May 19, 2013 - OMG-Driving to Yosemite
According to all of our fellow RVers at the Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes Preserve, Rt. 120 from the west is THE way to come to Yosemite. If that is the case, I cannot imagine what the other roads may be like. I almost had to go lay down in the bedroom while Bob was negotiating the dizzying heights and curves of CA 120. The road looked like this:vvvvwwwwwvvvvvvwwwwww. Naturally, the passenger (me) got the death’s eye view of the canyon floor as the road rose 3000 feet in about 8 miles. I did manage to take some photos of our tortuous route...

May 19, 2013 - Late Spring in Central California
Morgan Hill Thousand Trails RV Park, Morgan Hill, CA Sunday, May 19, 2013 noon In the last two weeks I’ve moved to central CA south of San Francisco. I spent a week in Coarsegold at the Park Sierra Escapees Co-op Park. (Escapees is a club for people who use their RVs as a full-time home.) The park is situated in the Sierra foothills about 25 miles SW of the southern entrance to Yosemite and 30 miles east of Fresno. It is a very hilly area where the RV sites have been carved out of the hilly terrain among the Live Oaks and numerous other...

May 18, 2013 - East Porterville, CA - Lake Success Tule COE
Our trip from Joshua Tree to east Porterville, CA was 274 miles that was probably the most stressful trip this year. The roads were not that bad and the traffic was light as well, but the winds were horrific, coming in gusts at the most inopportune times from different directions. We went from the desert where little grows to the valley and many orange groves, vineyards and what looked like nut trees of some kind. We are staying at the Tule Corp of Engineer campground on Lake Success about six miles from East Porterville. We have 50 amps...

May 17, 2013 - Calico Ghost Town Campground
Campground is in a canyon with some full hookups in which we lucked out on acquiring. We had site B2 which was 60' 50amp FHU back-in and definately one of the better ones. Lots of 4 wheelers and jeeps because CG is surrounded by off road trails. We went to the ghost town in which had stores and mine tours since this was a silver mining community back in the 1800's. Really awesome little tourist trap. We also took the Avalanche off roading of course.

May 16, 2013 - Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP
We have been staying at Sequoia RV Ranch in Three Rivers, California for the past three days. Unfortunately, awoke on Tuesday with a rash all over my entire body. Now, this may be TMI for some but seriously, what else can happen? Must be Bobitis or something like that. In any event, we drove to Sequoia NP on Wednesday in the Jeep. The road, Rt. 198, was under construction in the park so we had to wait for at least a half hour on three separate occasions which cut our time at the park significantly. We visited the General Sherman tree; the...

May 16, 2013 - Woodward Reservoir, Oakdale, CA
We left Three Rivers Friday morning and traveled about 170 miles to a Stanislaus County Reservoir, Woodward Reservoir, where we stayed for two nights. It cost only 15.00 per night with a senior discount (hard to imagine we qualify) for full hookup with 50 amp. service. The reservoir was full and it is quite a lovely facility with huge day use areas, several boat launches and several camping areas; one with hookups where we stayed and the rest with no services. There was an abundance of wildlife and we saw turkeys and a lot of other birds...

May 15, 2013 - Eagle Lake, CA
We wanted to start this leg in our journey to the Pacific NW with a stop at one of our most favorite places to camp...Eagle Lake. The south shore of Eagle Lake, and Merrill Campground, is approximately 16 miles north of Susanville and 105 miles north of Reno, NV. Eagle Lake is located at the juncture of four major geologic provinces. To the west and south is the Sierra Nevadas, a giant mountain range formed by tectonic uplifting along the edge of the continental plate. To the west and north are the Cascade Mountains, which run through...
