Apr 23, 2018 - Fun and friends
We had a lot of fun with friends while spending our 4 days and nights in Branson at Treasure Lake. The weather was cool but bearable during the day but downright cold at night. Our friends Sherry and Leon came down from Washington, MO, on Thursday and Stan and Bonnie came over from Kimberling City and we all met at Danna's for supper. Lots of catching up to do since we hadn't seen each other in such a long time. Afterwards we all went to the Lodge at Treasure Lake to play some cards. That's how we roll when we are in Branson. Friday morning...

Apr 16, 2018 - Lots going on here
Just to begin with, it's COLD here!!!! We certainly haven't had to use the air conditioners since we got here. But the heat pumps sure are getting a workout. It was 35 degrees here when I crawled out of bed at 7:45 am today. Brrrrr Well, there is a lot to tell you about. We were supposed to go to Springdale last Wednesday, but plans were changed and we went to Gassville, AR instead. As you all know we have been trying to sell our motorhome for the last several months. We have had several inquiries but no really interested buyers. So we have...

Apr 15, 2018 - Russellville, AR - Ivy's Cove RV Retreat
Our journey from West Memphis to Russellville, AR was 201 miles over almost all I-40 under a light rain for the first 40 or so miles but all of it with a strong southerly wind that made the trip much less enjoyable. We arrived at Ivy's Cove RV Retreat under sunny skies and a colder night forthcoming. We have a 50 amp full hookup pull-through with decent Verizon and a clear look at the satellite. The sites are a little narrow and barely long enough to leave Libby attached though we disconnected so we could journey into town for lunch at...

Apr 13, 2018 - West Memphis, AR - Tom Sawyer RV Park
Our trip from Red Bay, AL to West Memphis, AR was a leisurely 162 miles, almost all of it on I-22 until we got just south of Memphis where we hopped on I-55 until our exit just across the Mississippi River. Again not many photos of the trip as it was all boring interstate! We are staying at the Tom Sawyer RV Park right on the shores of the Mississippi River. It is a very nice park although this current stay has been very windy and not conducive to really enjoying the stop. We have a very long pull-through with 50 amp full hookups. The...

Apr 10, 2018 - Back in Arkansas
We made it back to Pottsville safe and sound. But boy is it cold here!!!!! We left Mission about noon on Saturday afternoon and spent the night in Wharton, TX. Our usual Holiday Inn Express had no rooms available so we stayed at the Express Inn next door to Buc-ees travel stop. We were going there anyway to buy some snacks for the road, and there was a Walmart Supercenter right across the street so it was very handy. We left Wharton about 8:30 Sunday morning and the weather was nice and cool but no rain so we when we got through Houston we...

Apr 4, 2018 - West Memphis
Every sunrise is special in its own way and this one over the Mississippi River was no different. Plans for Wednesday was to take in Memphis, but as luck would have it, Memphis had their streets shut down for MLK50. Thousands of visitors have ascended on Memphis to commemorate the death of Martin Luther King, Jr with a march, many speeches, ringing of the bells world wide and festivities continuing on for days. I thought I would have liked to visit Graceland but all tickets were sold out. Bummer for me and relief for Sam. We did manage to...

Apr 3, 2018 - Fort Payne to West Memphis
Day 2 takes us from Fort Payne, Al to West Memphis, Ark. Rough day of traveling as the wind was so strong it nearly took us off the road several times. Passed through Huntsville, Al, home of the US Space and Rocket Center . In Decatur, Al, we picked up the Trail of Tears following Hwy 72, a series of forced relocations of Native American peoples from their ancestral homelands in the Southeastern US to areas in the west that had been designated as Indian territory. Trail of Tears took us to Muscle Shoals, Al located 30 miles south of TN and...

Mar 18, 2018 - Cricket House
First entry... A great start to our trip. Thanks to our friends, Putt and Penny for letting us crash at the Cricket House on the White River!! Had a great visit, fishing, sitting by the fire pit and listening to great music! On the way, we stopped at the Beatles’ Park in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Very interesting story behind this place. Your homework assignment, google it . On our way to Kansas City for the Eagles concert.

Feb 8, 2018 - Russelvile
It was a lot nicer today then yesterday. The temp got up to 60 and sunny. We only had to cross the Mississippi to be in Louisiana and we got to State Hwy 7 and took that north. It is the scenic byway so the speed was slower but beautiful scenery. We stopped at the Hollis Conservation compound. In the depression men lived there while they reforested the surrounding area. No buildings but the foundations were still there. It s a good Hwy but pretty remote so we stopped at 4:00 got our room, rather then chance not finding a room before dark.

Jan 11, 2018 - Thursday, Arkadelphia, Arkansas
We started our journey this morning in the rain. Our next stop will be Arkadelphia, Arkansas for the next night. The site was settled in about 1809 by John Hemphill, operator of a nearby salt works, Arkansas's first industry. It was known as Blakelytown until 1839, when the settlement adopted the name Arkadelphia. Origin of the name "Arkadelphia" is uncertain. One possibility is that it was formed by combining Ark- from the state's name Arkansas and adelphia from the Greek meaning "brother/place" Another explanation of the name is a...

Dec 12, 2017 - Little Rock AR
Monday’s breakfast fear was mostly – but not totally – unfounded. It started with fig soup (uh, no) but finished pretty strong. A cheesy souffle kind of thing along with some sausage (a resounding yes) and some more fresh fruit, all washed down with sweet tea. As usual, my opinion of the meal and Michele’s will probably differ. After breakfast we headed off for the short drive downtown to tour the state capitol. It was all decorated for Christmas and they do a good job, without it being too gawdy. And it was probably done pretty recently,...

Dec 11, 2017 - Little Rock AR
After breakfast we headed off to Hot Springs https://www.nps.gov/hosp/index.htm. It’s a really odd national park. It is comprised of a series of bath houses that made this area popular back in the late 1930’s and 40’s as a destination for the wealthy to soak in the waters to heal ailments. National Park worthy? I would have to vote no. National Monument? Historical Park? Maybe. But I just can’t see why this place would get the same consideration of worthiness as Glacier or Yellowstone. Baffling. Anyway, we wandered through the Visitor's...
