Mar 23, 2013 - Tom Sawyer's RV Park
Sitting on the banks of the mighty Mississippi watching tug boats and barges go by. Had an excellent steak roasted potatoes and asparagus for supper, laundry all done and it was free. Weather is raining and mild so plan on spending another day here relaxing and resetting before we head for Tenn. Saw our first serious accident today a single car multiple rollover didn't look good when we went by. Randi was a little concerned on our way in to the park as it went thru a small industrial area and a part of town called the hood if u know what I...

Mar 1, 2013 - Happy Squestion - Only With The Government- Happy March!
We have learned to dislike traveling on I-40! While traveling On Friday, we encountered yet another road Closure On I-40 before Little Rock. We took a 100 mile detour on side roads to get past this accident. We did arrive a little late but in fine shape for what turned out as our last supper as a travel group. We had a fabulous site on the Mississippi River across from downtown Memphis. We were on the river side of the levee. The tugs were pushing 16 to 24 barges full of cargo up and down the river add we watched. andI said out good byes...

Nov 12, 2012 - Tom Sawyer RV Park
This day we shared the 208 miles through the countryside of north central to eastern Arkansas. It was a beautiful drive over hill and dale on the two lane highways. Our stop for the night is the Tom Sawyer RV Park along the shore of the Mississippi River. As it turned out, our site backs up to the river providing a grand view. Our excitement was so great we stayed in and ordered Italian dinner to be delivered. So it was wine, with Italian during sun down overlooking the Mississippi. Whew! What a night. Dave reflected, saying that in June of...

Oct 26, 2012 - Windy Drive to West Memphis
Stormy weather invaded our slumber several times during the night; heavy rain and wind pelted the coach and we rocked like a cradle even though the park is in a slight valley. Joe & Foxy got a small dry window for their morning walk. Fortunately, Joe had done most of the outside chores last night so it didn't take much for us to break down and be on our way south to West Memphis. The weather was wet and windy and we decided to just take the most expedient route, which was I-55. A little heave traffic getting around St. Louis, and then it...

Oct 12, 2012 - West Memphis
We had another day of driving through "gray" weather but, again today, we saw the start of a colorful autumn beginning to show on the trees. We have stopped for the night at Tom Sawyer's RV Park in West Memphis on the banks of the Mississippi River. After a healthy dinner of a tossed salad and a baked sweet potato (although I am still reveling in the memories of the catfish from last night) we took advantage of the "free washing machines" and got our laundry caught up. (I've never before stayed at a RV park where they let you use the...

Sep 11, 2012 - Hot Springs, AR to West Memphis, AR
Hot Springs, AR to West Memphis, AR 167 miles We sure took our time this morning getting ready to leave. It was a beautiful day that made it all the more difficult to motivate ourselves to pull out of the peaceful mountain top setting. Eventually we made our way down the mountain. Today's drive was not too bad except for a 12 mile section of road construction. Only one lane was open on both the eastbound and westbound sides of I-40. It was stop and go, mostly stop. We finally made it to the Tom Sawyer RV park and have the best site in the...

Jul 24, 2012 - Traveled to West Memphis, AR
We traveled from Whittington, IL to West Memphis, AR to visit Memphis, TN which is just on the east side of the Mississippi River. We are camped on the Mississippi River at the Tom Sawyer Camp Ground and have seen a number of tugs pushing barges north and south. The river is way down because of little rain between here and its headwaters in Minnesota and large sand bars are exposed due to the shallow water. But tug traffic does not seem to be inhibited by the shallower water. We had an easy trip traveling south on a blue sky clear hot, hot...

Mar 9, 2012 - nicest Ford Dealer you will ever find
This was a interesting day. We started out and the little wrench showed up on the interment panel after about 1 mile then the truck cut down to half power. So the most we could get out of it was 55 miles per hour and that was with it pushed to the floor. We called West Memphis Ford Dealer and they told us to drive it on in that they had a small road beside there dealership we could drop the trailer and they would look at the truck. These are the nicest people you would ever want to meet. They took the truck right on in as soon as we...
