Away we go 2013

Sep 22, 2012 - Memphis and Beyond

Saturday, September 22, 2012 We are now in Ft. Smith, AR and about to enter Oklahoma on tomorrow, one of the few states we have not spent a night, but will do so tomorrow. (This is also because we can now put the Oklahoma state on our map). We have traveled a little over 2,000 miles since leaving Maine and still have another 1,000 to go. Friday started rainy, but cleared as we headed to down town Memphis. Our first stop was Sun Records Studio, Elvis’s first recording studio, and other notables, like Ike Turner, BB King, Johnny Cash, Carl...

Jul 14, 2011 - Back to Arkansas

PARK RIDGE RV PARK-VAN BUREN,AR. 7/14/11 Early to bed, early to rise. We were up and away by 0800 for the 448 mile trip. Made it with an average of 63 mph in a little over 7 hours driving. Arrived here at 4PM. We were blessed with good roads and a tailwind for the most part. Had our lunch at the entrance ramp of a closed parking area...but it got us off the interstate. I40 all day today. Left Texas, crossed Oklahoma and got three miles into Ark. Edie got a good picture of a very high building under construction in Oke City. Her back got...

Apr 30, 2010 - Van Buren, AR

Friday, we're at the Comfort in, it's 9:45 and we just got a call from the repair shop - the problem seems to be with the fuel pump which they have to order fom the Cummings home office with possible delivery tomorrow but more likely on Monday. So we'll leave the RV here and head up to Springdale in the Saturn and hang out until Monday. Yesterday, in between visits with the patient, we walked around Van Buren's Historic Downtown area which was booming in the 1900's era. Paddlewheel boats plied the Arkansas River and this was one of their...

Apr 29, 2010 - Whoops!

After a night at the CB (Cracker Barrel) campground in Russellville, AR we ate a light breakfast and got back on I-40W. About halfway (35 mies) to our turn off on I-540N we developed a little skip in the engine which would go away and then do it again. It got a little worse each time and finally the "check engine" warning light would go on and off. I got out the Cumming engine handbook and Susan called the 800 number. She described the symptoms and our location and whoever she talked to was very sympathetic. He connected us with the...

May 12, 2009 - Revisiting Arkansas

We took a backway from Tunica, up 49, hoping to find a better road than 40 but failed. We were curious about our old neighborhood, from '96-98; some may remember that the home inspector for a potential buyer for the house we owned said it might fall down the hilltop. We didn't stop to check if the address had changed. Decided to spend the night here in Van Buren, near Ft. Smith at the Arkansas border.

Aug 25, 2008 - El Reno, OK to Van Buren, AR Park Ridge RV Cmpg

Not sure what OK does with ax money but it is not for repairing their roads as there were much worse than the Al Can Hwy. We were so glad to finally get into AR and hopefully decent roads. Before leaving Oaklahoma City we made several stops, one at Wal-Mart to exchange some electical cords I bought in TX to change from 50 AMP to 30 AMP and from 30 AMP to 15 AMP, I bought the wrong ones. We like Wal-Mart because even though I bought these items in TX I was able to exchange them in OK. Our next stop was the Orignal Fried Pie place in...
